PS3 core price drop + HDMI jpn

for about $400 so far in japan only, also added HDMI support

For about equivalent specs as the Xbox 360 non-core (20gb harddrive, hdmi, no wi-fi, price) and blu-ray/DVD support, seems like sony is making a push to eliminate Xbox from japan. Hopefully these prices will be reflected stateside after the initial console launch. Seems like SCEA is too greedy compared to SCEJ. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

On the flipside, if theres no region coding for games - it wouldnt seem too difficult to just import one. The core system isnt looking so bad at all now.

 

f-in sweet. I need to see a side by side compassion of the core and full systems. As long as it plays all the games I wouldn't see a point in getting the "full" version.

Now that HDMI is added, i think i can live without wifi and a media card reader.

 

seems like it's been confirmed that the price drop is Japan only.

while I'm not surprised that they dropped the price, I am surprised that it's Japan only. Americans/Europeans pay full price, and then pass the savings onto the Japanese. The japanese game industry is being really brazen lately about how much they love their own people. But, that's their right, I guess...

this might have pushed me over the edge into not getting a PS3, or an american one at least, since they've also re-confirmed that games won't have region encoding.

 

they mentioned the japanese weren't too supportive of the price(thus the drop), while the americans have accepted the prized and will pay for it willinging(thus the finger).

I'm pretty sure US is going to get a price drop as well once it's closer to launch.

Have you heard of any news concerning the region free feature for PS2 games as well. I know that it will have the region free feature for PS3 games but how about PS2 games that you play on it. I wouldn't have to get my current PS2 modded and just wait for the PS3 to come out. Wouldn't it be cool to have console system that acts like a DS or PSP and play either US, Japanese, or European games from any version of the system. I am really beginning to wonder why no console does it. It will get them so much more money.

 

PS2 games will still be region-coded.

 

PS3 might be region-free but what if the game Developers start region-locking their games??
SCE says they are making their next-gen console region free but it is up to the Game Developers to aplly this change.

They had to do something in Japan to make up for the fact that Japan is only getting 100,000 units at launch while the US is getting 400,000, even though the Japanese fans have been more loyal. The Japanese have only bought about 75,000 Xbox 360's, and Sony was going to repay that loyalty by giving them less PS3's!!?? So enter the Japanese price drop, a very nice way of saying, "I dance with other girls but, I know you are my prom date baby"
