only as insecure as you think that im being paid by sony,
your call. Either way, just counting recent events, calling a rumour the final fuck you and saying im a sony employee after nintendo promotion, ya it just seems like you like to cry about anything. Pretty ironic for a mma fighter.

    Xbox360 = 6 years @ $67 a year
    Xbox = 4 years @ $75 a year

I posted this in another thread - PS3 could be one of the best bargains. Yeah I said it. Just an opinion so feel free to argue with each other over it.

    My Reply:

Oh yeah the PS3 will last for a decade just like the PS1 and PS2 did...

Try to rationalise it as much as you want, facts remain that just a short while ago you guys were jumping up and down saying 2 HDMI outs, Killzone and motorstorm is realtime and they will be out by spring, generational leap ahead etcetera AND acording to the poll here on neo gaf at a price that was THE SAME or LOWER then that of the premium X360.

Now after all the Sony lies, delaysand downgrades you guys are here again defending this downgraded machine that costs several hundred more then you guys expected with several features cut as A BARGAIN.

    Get real.

    typical fishie

I was going to post something meaningful, but then i realized that this is just an attempt to cause controversy for no apparent reason from crap that was posted by an idiot on another thread. I dont recall anyone in this thread ever claming ps3 is a bargain. If shit ridiculous statistics made by an internet user was made in another thread, please just keep it there.

The odd thing about this thread is that I bet 99% if not 100% of the people in this thread have never seen a Blu-ray demo.

For those of you lucky enough to live near a Sony store go ask to see a demo of the Sony Qualia 004 projector and blu-ray combination. You'll probably be like me... floored by Blu-ray's image quality.

Now of course the Qualia 004 is a 25k projector hooked up to a 4k blu-ray player but you can re-create 75-80% of the same quality display at home for around $1300 to $1400.

Just buy a Hitachi TX-200. This is the 720p native projector I bought and it looks amazing with my XBOX 360. The Hitachi has component and HDMI inputs and is probably the greatest value in front projectors at the moment.

The PS3, due to the inclusion of a blu-ray player, is a great value. Think about this...how many of you own DVD players? I would bet 99%-100%. When did you buy one and how much did you pay? If you are like most the cost was around $100-$200 and you owned a DVD player for at least the last 3-4 years.

Just hack off $200 for the blu-ray player and enjoy the fact that you got to be one of the first few people who could enjoy the blu-ray player first.

Now go check out that Sony Qualia 004 and Blu-ray demo. It really is one of the most AMAZING display demo's I've ever seen.

I dont' understand why this conversation is still going.

If you can't afford it, that's your problem. If you bought the 360 and you thought sega would stop the trend of VF on Sony product, that's your problem.

Most people dont care about great dvd playback. As long as you can put the disc in, and it plays movies it keeps most people happy. I dont even know why the shift in arguement to video playback. Its just an extra feature.

This is funny, so I'll just post it. (got it from a comment made in PhoenixDth's link earlier)

In a lot of ways, the HDMI issue is really one of Sony's own making. I'm willing to bet the conversation went like this:

Sony Techs: We've got this new technology called Blue Ray - it'll let us take our movies into higher definition.

Sony Media: Cool - we can get people to rebuy movies they already own - we'll be making the money we did while the video tape change and the tape-to-cd converstion happened!

Sony Techs: Right - it's pretty sweet, we've got up to 1080p tranmission on 50 GB per disk!

    Sony Media: Uh-oh.

    Sony Techs: What?

Sony Media: My sphincter just clenched. What if someone downloads this over the Internet?

Sony Techs: But it's 25 GB - I mean, that would take a long time, probably at least a week.

Sony Media: I got it - let's restrict the resolution unless they have a special input! That'll stop the pirates! And then we'll put it on all of the PS3's so that it's the standard, and people will all go Blue Ray and this special "HDMI" input will rule the world, and no one will ever pirate again!

Sony Techs: That doesn't make any sense. Right now, people rip DVD's by directly decrypting the movie file to their hard drives and then distributing that over the Internet. They're not running the movie through video capture devices - that would take too long and degrade the quality. And if someone can do that to the signal, then if they get the Blue Ray movie off, they'll probably just hack it to remove the hardware requirement to the file so they can reburn it or just hook a media center like device (like a Mac Mini or something) directly to their TV.

    Sony Media: Stop that.

    Sony Techs: Stop what?

Sony Media: That thing you do, where you shoot down my arguments with - uh, what's that word when you use real rules to define things?

    Sony Techs: Logic and sense?

Sony Media: That's it! No, go put HDMI in only half of the PS3s so that only the "cool rich kids" will have it, and everybody will want it! Bwahahaha!

Sony Techs: I wanted to go work for Apple, but wasn't cool enough /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

    Or - something like that.

And with that can we end the Video Playback?

    Interesting article

This is a pretty unbiased article on Ars Technica that covers both sides of this issue pretty well.

    Sony's PS3 Gamble

Definitely going to be an interesting 2006 holiday season, that's for sure.

yeah PS2 being able to play DVD's was a big selling point, at least for me and a lot of my friends. If the blue rray is the future (big if there) Then it will eb a big selling point for the PS2 as well . Reminds me of being amazed that i could play CD's on my PS1

all abored back on sony's nuts

if the major selling point of a game system is a secondary function...thats great!

You're ridiculous and your sarcasm is unwarranted. The reason PS2 did so well against dreamcast was the fact it had a dvd player and the reason it was better than the origional xbox was that you didnt need to by some crappy remote in order to play DVD's. To say a gaming system is unable to play DVD's nowadays is a big problem, and you'd be blind to think otherwise.

The main reason ps2 did so well was it was coming off the back of the hugely successful ps1, ps was/is a powerful branding.
Dvd players were kind of a must have feature back then as vhs was gettign phased out,
I don't see blue ray and hd dvd having the same impact on the average comsumer. I wonder what all that extra space on a blue ray is gonna be used up by, (allowing for the hd output) more gamplay? I doubt it.

olly, trust that HD (bluray/hd-dvd) will be big tings this xmas

you hav to remember that usa hav had HDTV for 4 years or so

so theres enough peeps out there who want HD content

and in the UK HD will be pushed out a lot for the world cup

hell i got my HD box for free:p

anyways, bottom line, ps3 needs bluray, bluray needs ps3

and to think that the main reason people buy a GAME system to play dvds, especially at this price, is rediculous. IF people can shell out the type of cash asked for by Sony, they can also afford to buy a top of the line blue ray player.

I see a problem with this. You've taken Vith_Dos' personal reasons for buying PS2, magnified the significance twice (from big, to major to main), and then twisted it a little further by implying Vith_Dos stated that people in general bought PS2s for DVD playback. WTF?! Way to manipulate there, sir.

I can't subtantiate this. I don't think you know what a top-of-the-line BlueRay will sell for. What if it's $1754.37? That sounds a little different than $599. Such broad generalizations are not usually credible... "If all MMA fighters named Josh can play VF - it stands to reason they can toast perfect cheese bread, too."
