What makes this even more crazy is that Xbox Live had a "Free Xbox Live Gold Weekend" while all of this stuff was going on... Definitely a bad time to be Sony right now...

It sucks too, because the very moment I decide I want to buy AH3, Sony gets hacked...

Just get Xbox version, it's just matter of time for next hacking.

AH3 is only for PS3... Yeah it sucks, I know...

Supposedly, this "rebuilding the infrastructure" is bogus... Granted it does take some time, but I'm surprised it wasn't just a simple patch or hotfix...

Anyway, JP servers might be up today, and US/EU servers might be up on Tuesday... That's what the latest news is from what I've been reading...

Yeah no doubt about that man... First it was psn plus, I'm pretty sure something is going to be implemented where you have to pay to play online... Supposedly, Nintendo is doing the same thing if they haven't already...

The day I have to pay to play online will be the day I stop buying games that have online. There is no Fn way I'm going to pay 59.99 up front and then $.$$ per month forever. Sorry Sony will have to pimp dem hoes somewhere else. How greedy can these companies get... Games as a service... F That!

Haven't these companies learned? As soon as everybody is trying to force you to pay to play, somebody is going to start a new network for free, and to get the customer base they'll offer discounted games.

Those servers gotta be maintained somehow... Besides, with most things you get what you pay for... I love both Xbox and Ps3, but when it comes to online security and options, Xbox is more robust and you get more bang for your buck imo... That isn't to say that they don't get hacked ('cause they do), they're just quick about dealing with it, and hell, its Microsoft... They have a better hand on the network aspect than Sony...

I really hope Sony gets a grip on this whole thing though... The sad part is that Anonymous weren't even the ones responsible for this (but yet are getting the bad rap for it), so whose to say what they can be capable of doing to Sony...

The advertisement says PSN is for free, and SONY might got sued if they start to charge people on that service.

likely they are covered under their TOS to make changes. no company promises anything without having their lawyers provide language that can show they actually didn't promise anything.

Just want to chime in that what that link says is a very plausible explanation for the downtime. The reports of Rebug allowing people with custom firmware to get on PSN are entirely true, and while I hadn't heard of PSN content getting pirated, it would explain how recently pirated versions of PSN games that were previously not possible to pirate have been popping up on private trackers.

Maybe it's SEGA trying to figure out if vf5fs is capable for a downloadable game for psn, and ending up Fn everything up...

The most hopeful explanation I've heard for a new VF to get released in the last 2 years.

This is the worst case scenario by far for SONY. Someone got into the databank of the company (or branch of SONY) that stores all information about PSN and Qriocity users. They managed to copy tons of information including home addresses, email addresses, birth dates, and names, and other private information. And SONY won't even directly comment on credit card information, but considering how they've handled everything else I would assume that credit card information was compromised as well. If personal data was stored on the same space as credit card information then the 'intruder' probably made off with all of it.

What's worse is that the company that SONY uses to store PSN/Qriocity information didn't even realize for at least 48 hours what was happening. No security whatsoever on their networks and that company and SONY were allowed to keep your home address and credit card information on file. Consumers have it the worst. Allegedly one person was able to cause enough damage to the servers that store account information that SONY had to destroy the PSN and rebuild it from the ground up. Pathetic and embarrassing. Whoever ran security for SONY should probably be fired. One person outsmarted SONY's entire PSN and Qriocity security team and has cost them millions upon millions of dollars and possibly billions depending on how much legal action we get to see resulting from this.

And even worse is that while the individuals who were copying the data were busy running off with giant lists personal identifiers...SONY didn't issue a single warning to any customers that their accounts containing personal information were compromised. SONY waited a full week before alerting people that 'oops your credit data and everything else we know about you was possibly stolen' and the 'alert' was a cryptic blog post. And because SONY knew that credit card information and private data was likely stolen and didn't alert any authorities nor consumers, they will likely be subjected to investigations by the US government and the European Union for how they've handled this disaster. Best case scenario as video gamers is that we get some new consumer protection laws on the books in the US and EU regarding how companies can store our personal information. And of course some free games or something from SONY.

Clearly the loser in all of this is SONY but it's not like consumers got off any better nor have game developers. What do you get for buying a PS3? You get your personal and private information stolen, you get a console that continually has features taken away from it (Other OS, PSN), and the company doesn't offer any consumer protection when it loses your personal information. And if you wanted to release DLC or a DL game this week on the PSN then you're out of luck. Anyone who wanted to play Portal 2, SOCOM 4, or the new MK on the PSN is out of luck as well.
