Question about Hori Stick for Xbox 360

I'm new to VF and I ordered an Hori Stick for the 360.

Once I got the stick, the thing I noticed is that the stick constantly rotates. The green ball on top is firmly attached to the stick, but the stick itself freely spins around. This causes the green ball to constantly spin around.

It has no problems when moving in all the directions, but when it's in the default middle position, I can spin the ball all the way around.

I'm a fighting game n00b, but it just doesn't seem quite right.

If any of you have an Hori stick for the 360, does the stick spin around? Is mine defective?

I emailed Hori a couple days ago, but they're dragging their feet.

    Thanks.

    Your stick is fine.

Is there a reason why it spins and is not in a fixed position?

It's designed to spin. That makes it more comfortable to use. If it didn't rotate with your finger and wrist motion, you'd either be forced to move only a certain way, lube the stick, or get callouses. It also would put more strain on the pivot.
