    1. How do you do the categories? I keep trying and trying, but they won't work.

    2. How do you do the thing where it shows how many new posts are in each topic? That's really cool too.

    Truthfully

    I would suggest using another forum software, UBB was the best but not others do it better for free. Consider iconboard, I have one which can been seen <a target="_blank" href=http://www.rustedtech.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi>here</a>

    There is Yabb which is pretty good.

    Other than that, should shold go to the UBB support forums.
