[IMG]Zerochan recently tweeted: I have an interview with Daichi Katagiri next week! Do you have any Qs about VF past or present? Let me know!

If you're unaware, D.K. is the director of Virtua Fighter arcade series. Please note that he has nothing to do with the console ports. So do you have any questions for D.K? Stack 'em up in this thread!

1: where do you personally want to see the Virtua fighter series go from here? is the April fool trailer from last year a frighting look into the future for the series?

2: are the any particular martial arts you would like to see incorporated into VF?

3: The stages in VF3 were very different from the other titles in the series, are there any plans for stages like them to make a return?

4: Could you beat that Ono guy in a fist fight?

Obviously, some of these are tongue-in-cheek, so Zerochan please use your better judgement. No offence is intended in any way!

      1. In every VF game up to and including VF4, the character's default stance was Southpaw (right foot forward). It was finally changed to an Orthodox stance (left foot forward) in VF5. Considering Orthodox stance is most commonly used, was there any particular reason why the series started out and stuck with Southpaw for so long, then finally switched? Is Yu Suzuki left-handed by any chance? [IMG]
      2. Who is your main character?
      3. In a first to 10 battle between you and Sexy Saitama, who would win?
      4. Have you considered ever doing a cross title with another fighting game franchise? If so, which ones?
      5. Why haven't we seen more customisation tie-ins with other SEGA IP, such as the Shen Mue or Yakuza series?
      6. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 3 things with you, what would they be?
      7. If you, Harada and Ono were stranded on a desert island, who would you feed to the sharks first? [IMG]

      1. With the decline of the arcade scene, do you believe the future of Virtua Fighter is found in home consoles ?

      2. Do you prepare something special for the 20th anniversary of the series ?

      3. Virtua Fighter 1 made its first appearence for Model 1, VF2 for Model 2, VF3 for Model 3 etc. Why do you choose a different arcade board for every new installment instead of using the same one - for example Naomi 2 for VF4 and VF5 ?

I agree with Shinobi's #2. Anything special for 20th anniversary?
-Will we see VF3tb as an HD re-release for download on consoles since Sega plans to bring more Dreamcast games to consoles as HD downloads?

-Will you include subtitles in future VF series especially for people who don't understand what some of the characters are saying?

-Will you ever include a story mode for a future VF game?

-Any chance of trying to make another Virtua Fighter spin-off like Virtua Quest but in a more decent way?

-Any chance we will see a portable VF game say for either Nintendo 3DS and/or PS Vita in order to compete with other fighting games on those systems?

1.I really loved the art direction of VF4 and it seems the whole series up till VF4 had the same art director, What's the reason behind the change in VF5?

2.Have you ever thought of changing the (metalic) sound effects to something maybe closer to movie like production?

3.If he can include a guest character in the VF series who would it be?

      1. There are a lot of organized events and support by Sega for the Virtua Fighter scene in Japan; however, this is lacking outside of Japan. I understand this is mostly because VF is made first to be an arcade game. Compared to the past, are there any plans to provide some type of support/event for people outside of Japan in the future?

      2. For future releases of Virtua Fighter, are there any intentions to have everyone in the world have access to the same version of the game at the same time (besides traveling to Japan of course)?

I agree with Akai: do you consider organize tournaments to promote Final Showdown in different countries and not only in the U.S.? In Europe as far as I'm concerned.

Will there be a visual story for the audience in the next virtua fighter. I believe that is one thing VF lacks right now, ever since VF2. Usually there is a video playing after the game is beat.

I personally believe it is important for the new players, because once they get into the game. They will have no emotion for the characters because they don't know what the characters is all about.

Looking at VF2 and seeing how tekken is succeeding in its population. I believe that is one of the causes. Lacking a little bit of story.

      1. What inspired you to choose the fightings styles of VF characters?

      2. Can you put IP MAN (Donnie Yen) as a guest character? :p
    11. BLACKSTAR

Sorry for any duplicates, didn't look through any posts.

I also have alot of potential questions that you might like to see, so I grouped them in different categories.

      --------

      1. How do you design characters, from an inspirational, as well as a game development standpoint? Is a character first created, followed with an appropriated fighting style, or are fighting styles chosen first, with characters created around them? Do you visit/have Master-level martial artists visit and demonstrate, or even motion capture? Do they oversee or advise on various styles throughout development?

      2. Is it true that Yu Suzuki was inspired to create Virtua Fighter(and Shenmue?) through the manga Kenji by Matsuda Ryuchi? (link: http://www.mangafox.com/manga/kenji/ ) They are very similar, as well as great respective pieces of art! Also, how does Yu Suzuki's legacy affect AM2/Virtua Fighter development team today?

      3. How many members are on the various VF development teams? What about for each department(art, graphics programming, AI, game engine programming)? I imagine ALOT! What kind of development strategy do you take to develop so much fresh and varied content over the dozens of arcade updates and releases. Also, how do you continue to develop so much content for, what pretty much is a single VF release (I'm sure it's taxing/tiring!) Where do you stop and say, 'we should save this for Virtua Fighter 6!' What about balance? I imagine alot of development resources are used to focus strictly on maintaining the Virtua Fighter series much appreciated balance. How does AM2 go about ensuring that each released is simultaneously as fun and balanced as possible?

      4. What is the state of popularity in VF in Japan? What kind of demographic (in Japan) do you think plays VF? Are you satisfied with the current success of VF5:FS, or is the arcade scene very difficult to gain new players? What do you think of the current arcade market(which is heavily rumored to be declining within the Japanese market), and how does it affect the Virtua Fighter series? If there is arcade market decline, and it gets worse in the future, will there be more focus on console development?

      5. How do you feel about Virtua Fighter players/fans from outside of Japan? Would you like it if Virtua Fighter more well known/received internationally (like Street Fighter and Tekken), or are you/AM2 primarily focused on Japanese players? Is there consideration of international audiences during development? How was the 2010 VF:R/Final Showdown petition viewed amongst yourself and the development team? How do Japanese view international VF players, and are they particularly interested in seeing more international players play VF?

      6. What inspired YOU to become on the Virtua Fighter development team? What do you personally like Virtua Fighter, and what inspires you to be on the team today? What is your history in game development world, and how did you get to your position in AM2/VF team today? What are the responsibilities of your position?

      7. How is the legacy of Virtua Fighter games viewed within Japan? What about the legacy of great VF players in the past and present?

      8. Can you describe the tournament scene for Virtua Fighter(in Japan/Asia?) Who do you think are notable players, and what makes them notable? What do you think of international tournamens, such as Evo? Do you watch the streams of these international tournaments? Several companies, such as Namco, Capcom, Arc System Works, SNK/Atlus, Warner Bros., etc, have taken great strides to have their games featured, advertised, and played in tournaments in Japan and (most notably) worldwide -- should we expect SEGA to make similar tactics to expand the worldwide audience for Virtua Fighter?

      9. Not a question: most of all, thank you and thank AM2, for keeping the Virtua Fighter series strong and with great gameplay

      More questions :p :

Do you have any notable stories from a developer's point of view?

Do you have any notable stories of the Virtua Fighter characters that you'd like to share?

Can you put out some 2D Virtua Fighter concept art???

Katagiri-san, how hard is it to incorporate changes into VF's gameplay systems without changing the core detail of the game?

i just have this random one.

with the rise of fighting games these past few years, with with games like blazblue (cs), ssf4 (cs),tekken 5:dr (psp)/tekken 6 (cs),MVC3,along with a few other, that always push the bar higher with fighting games? what could we expect from Final showdown(cs)? a console friendly version/international version of vf.net? or any offical group/community events, bi weekly,bi monthly events online?

here's hoping my question goes through. :p

Who is your all-time favorite player and why?

Which character in the virtua fighter series is your favorite and why?

Do you believe virtua fighter is the best fighting game series, why or why not?

What is your opinion of the direction virtua fighter is heading to and is it a good/bad thing?

Which virtua fighter game is your favorite one?

If there is 1 thing you could add to a new virtua fighter game what would that be?

For the most part, why is Sega such a piece of shit these days? (jk jk [IMG])

Thanks for the input, guys! There are some good questions in the mix here, and some that play into aspects of things I was already planning to inquire about. The interview happens on Monday JST so feel free to submit suggestions until then.
