Quick question about direction on arcade stick

I just bought a hori stick and vf5 and wondering if anyone can help me.

I have no problem doing of any of the directions except for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif
For /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/ub.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif I would pull back using my thumb
For /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif I would use my index finger

However /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif is really awkward , I use four fingers except my thumbs but my wrist has to be bent backwards in a uncomfortable way.. even that is not that accurate..
I suppose I can grab the stick and use my arm to do it ( ala SF2 ) but at the heat of the battle , its not that fast nor accurate.
All other directions are done with the flick of a wrist so its pretty fast..
How do the pros do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif?

I hope Im making sense here , I wish I can post a video or something..

I push in the 9 direction with the part of my palm that's between index and middle finger most of the time.

However some people put their left hand directly over the top of the joystick never actually letting go or changing their grip so all they have to do to move the stick from neutral to 9 is to flick their wrist.

I push u/f with thumb and index finger. It's not often used though in VF5.

I use the crook of my palm between my thumb and index finger. Just kind of cradle the stick and push with my arm more. It's not easy with your wrist alone, I know what you're saying.
