Ranked VS Player Match...

I personally prefer Player Match over Ranked by far. I like to be able to rematch my opponent and the ability to observe their style a little more.

I love games where my opponent and I have to continually be adjusting to each other. I will adjust and win then he will adjust and win, it's very cool to play that way. I feel like the "one and done" format of ranked match leaves me unfulfilled and wanting to fight a good player again.

I often only troll ranked to find someone who skilled and fun to play and I will just invite them to private match. I get so much more out of fighting the same character and player more than once as opposed to just randomly encountering one of the 17 characters while playing ranked matches...

Just my opinion but I would like to hear peoples' thoughts.

The problem is the player distribution in Ranked and Player Matches are different. Not a lot of ppl go in Player matches. I go there though to experiment using other characters.

I only play player matches for a lot of reasons. First of all, usually when I play ranked it's a bit laggy man, so I can't be bothered. If in a player match it's laggy I can leave with no penalties, people with shitty ass connections and stuff like that join your games on purpose and youre forced to play. I don't want to be a part of that.

More importantly though, when you just play someone one quick time or whatever during ranked, it leads itself to gimmicky play. I found myself not getting any better at the game by playing people that are a one-trick pony. People like to bypass the basics instead just trying to learn tricky gimmicks to beat people up, and never learning anything else.

I had found myself not getting any better at the game, and not even actually playing the game. Once I stopped fighting in ranked way back, and just stuck to player matches I got much better much faster.

I guess the only drawback is that there's plenty of other people that I haven't played or even get a chance to, because they play ranked exclusively. I say oh well, because I'm still improving in the game so it's all good.

Player Match all the way. Fuck Rank. Most people just want rank so the wins can make it seem like they're hurting something. No disrespect to the good players but the Ranking system is flawed.

I kinda liked ranked because it does put in that extra level of concern. It's also nice if you just want to bang without offending someone if you move on too quickly etc.

I like player matches too just because you can play around with strategy more, experiment with other characters etc.

Player Matches are great for quick matches against people you know
Ranked is better for me because something is on the line.

Player Matches after 5 or so I just do random things anyways. I don't take it serious
If you want to be a serious VF player you have to play Ranked to get over the nerves factor of VF Promotions and Demotions of the game plus it helps if you start going to Tourneys because your use to playing for something

I agree with you Slide... Ranked seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors. Some one can beat you in ranked using their gimmicks that would never work again in a rematch. That's why you have 7th dan Vanessas that only do "take that" and aren't even good...

Ranked lends itself to a lot more BS tactics. If I'm playing a good person I want to win just as bad whether it's ranked or not.

Player match is less laggy for me so yeah, player match is the better place to play. I don't know about you guys, but I prefer as little lag as possible and the worst the lag, the worst I play.

But rank is good until you find that person you want to play multiple games, then you hit player match.

Player match I take more seriously.
Rank I tend to fugg around a lot.

Why? Because I play people in player match from
the shoutbox who I talk to on a regular basis.
Makes it fun to BS for me. What I think is missing
from the online experience in general is the human
aspect of it. I really could care less about
beating people I don't talk too.

I have an easier time finding better people in player matches over ranking and they are easier to locate. I don't get as many people with a decent level in ranking and most of the people I face aren't as good as the average person I face in player matches. I don't mind ranking but there is too much ego involved in it and certain people (not people here in VFDC) take it far too seriously. All I want to do is improve I don't care about ranking and I never did to begin with, being able to play loose and take as it as nothing more then a game is paramount for me, why should I sweat over VF anyway it is only a game after all.

Well, I play almost exclusively on ranked. I seems like people generally play harder in ranked matches, and tend to get a little chippy when they lose. Which I love, because I enjoy the competitiveness.

There are a couple problems, though: (1) I do tend to get stuck in ruts, because no one is adjusting to me unless I play the same person a few times in a row, and (2) My VF growth is stunted because I don't hunt. I host all the time and end up playing a LOT of kyus and low dans and fewer of the guys I should be playing.

Plus a lot of good players use me to rank up :), so I remain stuck a the 8th-9th dan level.

Edit: I tried hosting on player match, but I end up waiting 15 minutes for somebody with a bad connection to join. I prefer waiting for someone to invite me before I go.

In ranked, why learn TE and fuzzy when you can just 2P or DM P+K

I always found learning to do TE and fuzzy guard much better in quest mode than in online where even on good connections there is still a certain amount of lag.

    To each his/her own

I try to play both (connection permitting). Yeah, you got jabronies who probably got their rank out of a cereal box but the majority of the folks got their status off of skill. Live Players are also fun but it's hard for me to find folks except for hard-headed bastard who keep coming back for more and don't learn a damn thing. I had invites to matches every once so often though. Hell, I've been in slumps so bad I wonder if I should've been a Kyu instead.

Blazie: You got a good Brad, I still have the match saved where you jacked me up real bad that one round. Gotta show folks what VF players with skill look like. Replay FTW.

I chose rank to see how good I am doing. Before I got this game, I thought I would do much worst like 1,000 loses and few wins, but I'm doing pretty good. Rank match for me, for stats.
