ranking glitch?

it seems like i'm like many others in that i'm stuck at 1st Dan.

anyway, i was fighting a few matches the other night and i get a "ranking match". i thought to myself "cool i can finally get out of 1st dan!!!". the match starts and i am up against a 1st kyu aoi. i thought that was weird since i figured my opponent would be a 1st dan... i end up winning the fight and get no promotion message and i am still a 1st dan. this happened again after a few more matches with the same 1st kyu aoi... i'm not sure what is going on. is it possible that the ranking match was for the computer player?? i guess that the computer aoi would be a 1st dan if she beat me?

has anyone witnessed anything similar?

You only have to worry about the opponents at the same dan level as you. Beat them consistently to rank up.

 

Yupa, yes i saw that thread and read the ranking faq. i just didn't know that the computer fighters actually can gain rank as well and have their ranking matches be visible.


so here's a tip for getting to 2nd dan if you're having trouble finding other 1st dan opponents. if the computer gets a ranking match against you (you are 1st dan and the computer is 1st kyu), let the computer win. it will get promoted to 1st dan and the next time you face it and defeat it, you get a +1 for your own rank.

 

Yep, I've been chking the records of the High Kings I've fought. Their losses and wins vs. me are now on their record. I've also seen a bunch of CPU characters with king tut heads... I think that means they've lost 5 times in a row, and I've demoted a few dragonlord and thunderlord CPU opponents too. Also when you lose a sphere to a CPU character, that same character will still have the same color sphere when you fight him/her again (except for Dural) This is a really neat feature to kumite.
