I just posted this in the Good Games thread but thought it would get more attention here.

Has anyone seen the anomaly with the ranking system when out of nowhere it's a ranking match even though the meter is only half full? This happened with me and Geewaiho last night. I beat him the first game and the next game was a ranking match where I would get promoted. I was Hunter and Geewaiho was Warrior. Normally I should have had to beat him at least five more games.

This happened to me one other time about two months ago when I was 9th Dan. Has this happened to anyone else?

Could it be treating them as same rank? If so, then the bar is irrelevant, and your previous same-rank fights counted toward that.

Well, you're 9th rank one was probably a match against another 9th rank, and you had a gold bar (multiple wins in a row against same-rank works to promote you at any rank, it's just only required at the master vs. 10th dan rank up). I'm not sure how named ranks work, but are hunter and warrior the same rank with different win percentages? In that case, it's the same thing going on.

I get what you mean. That's definitely a possibility.

yes it has happened to me a few times already and i got 5th dan when i only had about 100 matches.

too bad this is also where people start getting really good.

JHow... Hunter / Warrior are pretty much the same same. The difference is your win percentage. 60%+ gets Defender, 70%+ gets Hunter, 80%+ gets Warrior. So most likely you must have fought other people within those ranks and beat them 3-4 times. Then you fought Geewaiho making it a 4-5 win against that rank, so the next match became a ranking match. I am not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure that's along the lines of being accurate. Hope it helps.

I see what you mean Konjou. I always knew about the Master & 10th Dan criteria but maybe the same applies to any rank. Meaning if you win 5 in a row against the same rank you go up no matter what. This makes sense and I think this is what is happening.

Ok something new I am boggled about. I think we've decided (or know) that you can rank up regardless if you beat the same rank 5 times. However can the reverse happen too? The reason I ask is just this morning I fought a Japanese Pai. He was Defender and I was Hunter. His meter was about 2/3 full and he was demoted after I beat him. Ten minutes later I noticed he was 10th dan. Sorry buddy!

Yeah. I have half of rank bar. The bar is red so it means I will go down if I loose to someone with the same rank.

Master Ranking is a BITCH! All I need is one more win(To Defender), and homeboy did the bitch move. Pull the plug on me. This happen at least 10 times last night. Even getting the ranking was a pain, people keep pulling. Now I know what Brisal means. Fucking Master ranking. Anyway, does anybody got a rank higher then Konjou and Denkai?

Well I'm at Hunter atm. (1 above Master for 70% - 80% win ratio)

You have to be lucky. That's it.

    1. Hope people don't pull on you.

    2. Be on a hot streak. Do not try to defend Master rank without having warmed up yet.

    3. Good connection.

    Other notes:

Please don't tag and bag someone for their Master rank and then run. Nobody likes a runner. If you're a 10th dan trying to rank up plan the time to do so... None of this "oh I gotta go" stuff conveniently after you've swiped the rank from someone who's been busting their ass to get it.

If you are a Master rank it's generally looked down upon to pick and snipe your opponents. Be a man/woman and defend the rank by allowing people to challenge you. This is far more impressive than just hand picking opponents for easy wins.

My suggestions aren't law and I am in no way trying to dictate how people should play, but keep in mind that you won't win any popularity contests by being sneaky.

Yeah, patience. I was just pissed of yesterday because I had a really good VF day. ETEG's were coming out. Master rankings was being passed around like a cheap whore yesterday. I got it back from the same dude 5times! It was back and forth. And from there on I beat homeboy 4 in a row. Then the BS happen. People keep joining my game and pulling. Bastards! Yeah, my Master Ranking is a whore....
