Resident Evil 5

Ok, you may know that I think RE 4 was like the best game of the last few years, but I do not know what to think about RE5.

They are setting the game in Africa, but are the black zombies really necessary?

The protagonist is stuck in Africa and his only hope to survive would appear to be to blast every black mindless killing machine in sight to save the world. It is pretty fucked up.

Yes, yes, the other RE games had a preponderance of white zombies, but does that really matter? Context matters, and there really isn't the same history of the world denying the humanity of white people. Just in the last ten years millions of Africans have died in wars or from diseases or malnutrition. The indifference of the outside world would seem to support the conclusion that not that much of the world believes that much more can be expected of the people on that continent.

I googled "racist resident evil" and saw that the topic has come elsewhere, often on gamer message boards. I have to say that reading the opinions makes me a little embarrassed to be such an avid gamer; the vast majority of people on these sites really seem to be both really opinionated and really ignorant (one could say that this is the American way, but I digress).

I know that racism is rampant in some East Asian countries and that Japan's ethnically homogenous society breeds cluelessness about race issues, but jeez, I hope that there is enough bad press that Capcom makes some changes to mitigate what looks to be some pretty fucked up design decisions.

 

say it louder! hehe i hear you on that. i mean damn it shouldn't be a big deal. i mean re4 had you shooting at another race as well but did they make a big scene, nope none what so every. it's the fact of the matter that most people are very closed minded. so it's up to us gamer. to help cool this heat down. shoot someone down if they talk bs about it. tell them that it's not real after all. and they should really do their reaseach seeing as their carriers of a virus. am i wrong for getting my at most of the guys of my race for being closed minded?
