So I plan to resign from my job today (put in 2 weeks notice). Without going into full details i will simply say this is due to low level descrimination in the promotions process. And when i look back, i realize i don't see a scenario in which had i resigned 6 months ago when descriminatory comments were made by my boss to me, in which i would not be further into a more successful career today. You couple that with the fact that i "settled" on this job originally 2 years ago, and the fact that i am sick of the job, i can only conclude it is time for me to move on. Unfortunately i don't have a new job lined up, but fortunately i do have a sufficient "F U" fund saved up to allow me to look for work.
I was wondering has anyone else taken this bold step at some point in their careers. If so, how did it turn out for you?

p.s. in my situation i think i need to point out that at my current job i am DEFINITELY NOT fully maximizing my potential earnings, education, or qualifications. Like i said, i settled for the job originally.

Yeah, I quit my job in September to go back to school. Luckily, I have my house and cars paid off, so my wife's money goes to paying utilites, groceries and recreational spending. I hope your "FU" fund will cover everything for at least six months. Either way, good luck to you in your future endeavours.

I did the same quitting the Club business. Been doing it for more then 10 years. I was making very good money, but, I'm not getting any younger, and is time to finally get this school thing finish. Leaving the Nightlife business was not easy, but it was worth it. You'll be fine, Social.

R U going to file against the discrimination?
R U going to confront them on it? Maybe they didn't know they were being discriminatory.

If they blatantly and willfully threw the discrimnation in your face, don't U think U should out them some kind-a-way?

This is a brutal economy to be looking for a job in, I wish you well on your search.

It would be nice if we could all get paid about 50 or 60k a year
to do something VF related /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif That would at least be enough
    to survive on.

thanks for the feedback guys. I'm actually considering going back to school for my Masters. It seems like a good way to pass some time while the economy is so far down. Plus, if i study hard for the GMAT i could get scholarships to pay for it. I'm just not sure if i wanna do all that work, lol.

good luck on your change. I think if your heart is not in it, it's time to change.

Shinobifist: wow.. nightlife career for 10 years. You really did last a long time. You are considered a dinosaur in nightlife career terms. I went clubbing for 10 years. It was so exhausting at times. I can only imagine working it.

    Right decision, right time.

Yeah the economy sucks, but you only live one life, no reason to live it inside a cage thats to small for you to stretch your wings. I'd rather die on the street than live trapped in a cell.

Plus, you know you can always hit big bro up for some money /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif that goes for anyone on this site, lol, wait no, take that back, just for social ruin.

On a serious note; that position was beneath you. It shows a lot about your character that you tried so hard to make it work, and to get ahead, thats the kind of personal pride in ourselves everyone should have. And it would say just as much negatively about your character if you stuck around any longer and let them insist you weren't of a high enough caliber to be promoted. Especially with all the fucksticks they were cycling through.

Yeah, I started at 16 as a promoter and from there, I did everything, bouncer, barback, porter, dishwasher, bartender and even manager at one point. I love the Nightlife, but my body doesn't anymore. I'm only 29, but, I need to start thinking on getting this degree out of the way. The Nightlife industry is very addicting, you make great cash for just working 2 or 3 days. But after awhile, you realise, you have to move on. All and all, fun times.
