Playing Shinn Akira the other night, and Blahzie somewhat regularly, I am quite familiar with standing up in time to eat knees, and always being beat to the punch even if i avoid the knee.

What is you guys's plans for avoiding this. What strategies do you implement when rising to not only avoid his instant offense, but to try and grab back an advantage

My options: roll out from different positions and alternate between mid rising kid, low kick, evade, guard high, and guard low.
If one of those doesn't work, then he must be using some very specific move, which you can just do a move to counter.

lets say theres a knee, you evade it, lets say he throws out a jab after that, next time evade the knee then do 236p+k

shinn akira brad is tough and his oki strategy is superb if u guard after tech his long ducking p+k will break ur high guard. if u try to interrupt with 2p u eat his double knees. if u try to evade his knees or guard break he does ducking k+g or long ducking cancel to throws 46pg or 33pg. if u stay on the ground u eat a stomp or a possible bounce combo. after techrolling i mainly try to fuzzy guard or eteg but that rarely works since he can also delay his attacks from long ducking. his brad puts me on guard control 99.9 % of the match. Mixing up lei attack patterns and guard cancel stances to throws or other attacks to keep his brad guessing. If u dont he will keep u guessing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

LOL. Thats what i'm talking about. (no offense here linz) but reading linz post, it was great in theory, and delivered just like someone who had never actually dealt with this monster.

Reading VFs post it sounds like someone who has been owned like a noob by the guy, it least i'm keeping good company. I look forward to playing him again and seeing if i can do anything better.

This dude Linz came out of nowhere...

Against Shinn Akira, I wouldn't even tech roll... Just take the light down stomp. Otherwise, your just giving him free damage.

The one staggering punch he (Brad) has, even on block, is high and can be ducked but it comes in fast. Just stay down and struggle up as fast as you can.

Only tech if he's farther back and you have time.

That's my advice. He's a very good player.

woah wait a second, i thought we were talking about *rising* not techrolling. thats two different things entirely.
There are periods during many if not all of the techrolls where youre vulnerable to certain attacks, no matter what you do. the answer to that of course is to struggle up, which is what *I* thought we were talking about.

I'll play this shinakira cat and see what I can come up with. But sometimes its just better not to tech bros, and I know that....

    Brad player here.

The 'don't techroll position' is head towards face down. Brad gets this one from any crumple combo with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (knee in the gut) throw. You've gotta keep yourself from techrolling these fraggers all the time, especially the throw. I'd say absolutely never techroll that throw actually, just take the down attack, the thing doesn't do that much damage anyway.

On the other hand, always techroll the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (knee to the face) throw, as it does damage on fall and guarantees a light down attack if you fail to tech, combined this makes the thing do 68 damage I believe, very good for a character with weak throws, eh?

Apart from that just mix up the rising tactics. Brad's Long Ducking is a massive threat against risers, but most of the time its still a guess on his part, just don't get predictable.

Against Shinn Akira, you just can't take the tech-roll in close (except on the throw where it'll save you damage), it doesn't matter how you fall. He doesn't try to punish them with an OM back-stagger, he just has honed his oki game to a ridiculous level.

Obviously, you teching is something that he wants you to do and he has worked hard to learn to punish it well. From actual experience against him, I've had better luck just staying down and trying to wake-up fast. By tech-rolling you're just playing right into his personal strength and he'll make you pay for it...

Take the 12 damage from the light down stomp, get up and try again. Don't go for the rising kick/sweep unless you know it will at least make contact, don't whiff, he'll smash you for that too. It's pretty universal advice but, don't play into his comfort zone. He loves to punish the tech-roll and is too good at it to test him. Don't tech-roll and at least make him have to play harder for his damage. Don't just hand him what he wants and the win along with it...

I haven't played his Brad but I agree with what Gerns is saying. If players avoid tech rolling when I am fighting them they tend to win more. No not the the noobs that just lay about after every knockdown lol. I happen to be very good at punishing when people tech roll. Players who see this and cant find ways around it tend to adapt and choose to stay flat rather then rise, thus they end up saving a ton of health and taking a huge part of my game away. As Gerns puts it, they take me out of my comfort zone and then make me have to adapt.

Well for me the trick isn't elminating tech roll but randomly tech rolling if at all.
Sometimes that can win me a match. KNEE I say more?

wow thanks guys..players teching is a big part of not only my game but everybodys game. i just seem to have a good sense of what my opponent is going to do. I just put myself in there place as I advance on them. Me personally think brads throws are very dangerous, and can lead to way more damage if connected properly.

If Brad enters into low duck after I tech roll what I do is ETEG as late as possible into OM. If Brad does double knees OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif . I think it back crumples but I don't remember 100%. If he does the staggering punch, I OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. If he throws you escaped his two or three of his strongest throws...
