When MSFT stated that it would offer a 3 year warranty covering the RROD that is
    - Global
    - Free of charge, including shipping costs

I thought, hey, that was a classy move. Good for you MSFT.

I purchased my 360 in the U.S. and then moved to Singapore for career reasons. A few days ago I got the dreaded RROD and so I called up the Singapore customer service line and...guess what, they are making me pay for shipping costs from Singapore to Australia and "any custom duties that may be incurred." W...T...F...

I offered to get my U.S. box exchanged for Singapore one. Denied. I argued that MSFT's own official press release explicitly stated that shipping costs will be covered. Some bullshit excuse about my console being U.S. based and thus not covered. I pointed out that the warranty is supposed to be a global one. More bullshit; tons of aggravation from talking to a guy who obviously thinks I am an idiot.

Good move MSFT, you've now lost what was once a strong consumer advocate. There's nothing worse in my view than not honoring your commitments, and you have not honored yours.

I know folks who bought the Asian Version of the 360, and had theirs repaired on the U.S. Call them again, you probably had a slacker. Fact of the matter is, this system should of had a recall. I don't know how people shrugged this of like is nothing. After my Elite RRoD a few weeks ago, I'm done buying 3rd party games on the 360. PS3 for now on. I only got a 360 for VF5 online, anyway. Excuse me while I hug my 250gig PS3, God Bless you SONY. I'm done with M$.

Sorry to hear about your 360. I didn't even know the warranty is supposed to be global. I sold my 360 after it deleted my DOA4 saves for the third time.

They told me in Gamestop, that it happens because I didn't download a patch that fixes it. To download the patch I'd have to have internet connection (which I had) and XBL account 'n all (which I refused to have, 'cause I didn't want to pay for that). So then I thought: "Online play is good, but if I can't have fun playing games offline only, and the way the system works forces me to pay for XBL then fuck them."
That's how I ended up selling my 360.

I know it has nothing to do with your problem, but I think that MS proved on many occasions that they are full of bullshit.
I'd recommend to write to U.S. to have them return all your costs due to the Singapore guys failure in doing that... of course if the money is actually worth the trouble... or just to have them admit you deserve it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

This happens quite frequently, consumer service reps are notoriously bad, particularly phone operators. Do insist. You'll find a way (public service works the same, if you don't succeed try phoning again hoping to speak to another person who might be in a better disposition).

If you cant find a way to get them to cover all the expenses just do it yourself. Its a simple heat sink replacement.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did in fact rant and rave, and got all the way to the top guy of the call center. He refused to let me speak to anyone higher than him.

When I asked him where the Singapore HQ is...this is freakin' funny...he told me he wasn't allowed to tell me. WTF!? What is this, a secret military operation? Some kind of national secret? But yep, he wouldn't tell me 1) who his superiors were back in HQ or 2) where HQ was. It's "tough shit" you gotta pay for shipping and that's that.

If anyone knows of an e-mail address where they are definitely processing your feedback do let me know because I think this Singapore-based policy is in direct conflict with what MSFT Redmond promised.

Damn thats foul. Since you move to singapore you can't just run out to the store anymore that you brought it from and exchange it. That what i should have done at target or game stop. If it fails just take it back and get a new one with the warranty.
