This is going to shock the UK crew. Ryan sneakde off to Japan (cheeky git!) and decided not to tell us until he reached the tws? rank which is one above 10th dan, well he's done more than that, read on:

    Hi Mo, howz things?

Kage is a proper monster, he is very quick and tricky,I dont think I`ve lost to even one Jeffry player with Kage since being here. I`m now one up from tsuwamono, all the Japanese players are sooooooooo shocked with how fast I`ve progressed.

Here`s a quick rundown of when and where I got my wins.

First day I arrived, I went to an arcade in a place called Ueno(remember the place we went to with all the markets and stuff).

    1st Day-Ueno- 10th kyuu- 1st dan

The next day I went to Akihabara High Tech Land.

    2nd Day-Akihabara- 1st Dan-6th Dan

The next day I went to Shibuya High Tech Land (Where I got beaten up by that VF Love Sarah guy thats on the beat tribe video...I beat him yesterday though)

    3rd Day-Shibuya-6th Dan-10th Dan

The next day it most certainly had to be West Shinjuku Sportsland where I had to beat this sick Pai player for the Gold!!!!

    4th Day-Shinjuku (West Sportsland...Blatant!!!) 10th Dan-TSUWAMONO

I`m so happy, I knew I could do it, but now even better, I`m a mousa which is one up from Tsuwamono. Its hard when you get to these levels. Its 5 to win to move up but only 3 losses to go down.

My Kage has 80 percent and my Akira is 10th Dan with 70 percent. My Goh is only 2nd Dan buts thats only cos I cant really find any second dans to fight against. My Goh, Wolf and Jacky are banging up heads boy trust me. My Jacky has 90 percent but its early days for him yet. I wanna get my Akira to Tsuwamono. And the others too. Joe sad`s eyes properly popped out of his head when he saw my Kage rank. It was so funny. Played Kyasao yesterday, he`d heard about me tearing things up so he thought he`d just come down to keep things in order. :) He is also a mousa as well, so when I challenged him it was all to play for. He beat me two games in a row really quickly, it was savage, as soon as each round started he was all over me. I didnt know whether or not to challenge again seen as from the two first matches I had gained absolutely no knowledge of his gameplan or anything, and not only that but if I challenged and lost again then I would have gone back down to Tsuwamono which is not where I wanted to be. So anyway I thought oh whatever and challenged again and at the beginning of the match it said title match for me to go down but I didnt let that phase me, I battered him two rounds in a row nuff quickly (Steve was blowing up) , then he came back two rounds, then on round 5 it was really close...but...then...for the match...Kyasao was on the ring edge and I was quite far away and I needed a slightly big move, not just a jab or low kick...so I thought to myself right, this is it, for the match, in front of Bun,Bun, Joe...and other heads. I`m gonna take a chance...........................................................................................................

.....................................I did f,f+p+k+...........nah mate f,f+k+g straight in his nose, everyone blew up, it was hilarious, to dig that move up from it`s grave for the match was too much for them and their sides were splitting. Kyasao didn`t challenge again after that and I`m not suprised, he would have got banged up again and he knows it. I was on a mousa winning streak after that move.

Steve was suprised to see me, you should have seen his face, he couldnt believe his eyes. It was funny. No new books at present. I`ll write some tactics next time. Gotta go out now. By the way you can tell the VF lot I`m in Japan, but only if you also tell them how high I am ranked as well. he he. I will write again soon. Bye, Ryan

hehe, Ryan's cool. Remember him being here last year for our VF3 gathering. He was kicking people left and right.
Really a loss he doesn't post here, it would be most insightful...
How long is he gonna stay there? It would be cool seeing him winding up in a tournament video from AM2 or Beat Tribe /versus/images/icons/laugh.gif

    Ryan updates:

"On Thursday I went to West Sportsland and BARE of the heads were there, Chibita was on one machine, Mukky on the next, Segal on another and Skeleton on another. How much worse can it be? To top it off they all had more than 20 wins and were still climbing. Skeleton had about 23, Segal and Chibita were in their 30`s and Mukky had a staggering 46 wins and was still flicking tsuwamono`s, etc off the machine like flies. I thought I`d have one go to see how I did and I beat him 3-2. All his wins gone. Was kinda funny. By the way earlier that night I had played Skeleton and he won two games to one. He is really good now and doesnt only use low jab and low kick and his speciality: ' The when your opponent falls asleep air toss'. He actually has a very good mind game with various kinds of attacks (Still uses his famous DEFENSIVE style though). Later on (after the Mukky bout) challenged Chibita who had bare wins and I beat him as well. I was kinda shocked. I guess Ive got better, also I was determined not to let the ' OH NO!! ITS CHIBITA' thing get in the way. If I'd have got nervous he would have eaten me in seconds. Ive seen him do it. The guy does the most amazing comebacks and he's quite a comedian in the way he goes about it too. Last but not least for this night Me.VS.Segal. this was quite an epic battle, with throw escape after throw escape, in the end I won 3-2, It seems Im on a role against the heads. Hey Mo, do you remember the time when we were in Kanispo and I did the famous chariots of fire run the whole screen and d/f+p+g on Segal. That was funny.

    Friday Night:West Shinjuku Sportsland.

I played Mukky two Akiras and lost 3-1. I beat Neo Tower who is a lot better now than he was on the Beat Tribe DVD. I won but man was it done to wire. 2 rounds each and for the match I did p,k,cancel,b,f+p+g which was a KO and a RINGOUT. Later on I thought I'd try my luck against Chibita again to see if the night before had been just his bad day which I believe all good VFers have. So I waited in the queue for Chibita`s machine, and there he was...the gaming world famous Lion under the control of Chibita who once again had 30+wins. I challeged him with my Kage and I beat him again blatant! wins off!!! I also beat the famous Pai female player. The very pretty one! I also beat(as you know) Bun Bun Maru and Kyasao, I had a down to no energy on round 5 match with Joe Sad's Jacky but he took me by one low kick. I also beat Anii as well. The Sarah Player from the DVD.

Pure curiosity - once he breaks their streaks, how many wins does he usually stack up afterwards?

This isn't why the UK has a poor reputation, at least on this board... =/
Can't say ryan's done much to dispel it either.

So why does the UK have a poor reputation? And how does Ryan Hart beating the Japanese top players not help to promote a better image?

Ryan Hart has a great reputation and I personally think a lot of players give good respect to him. In my case, I felt it was the way certain members were promoting the UK scene that made the UK VF scene seem so annoying, at least on this forum.

Ryan doesn't post on the forum, so maybe that's where some feel he doesn't help much? But my understanding is he doesn't have that much access to it, or maybe doesn't spend much time forum browsing/posting. Doesn't bother me, though I have been curious what communication or input from him would be like.

Back to the promotion of the UK which sort of worked backwards... I personally get reminded of the differences between UK and US sports commentary (not to restrict this to a UK/US only thing, just using the styles as an example). On the UK side, things get all glamorous and over the top--but when some lack of knowledge, self-defensive justification (or even misunderstood humor) comes across in the promotion, all some people hear is garbage without credibility. Sports commentary in the US tends to be a bit more straight forward, not so over-the-top. But the personal biases are usually there, and the humor is generally made pretty blatant that it's humor (as opposed to eventually being "justified" as humor after it's "misunderstood"). Not the best comparison, but it's what came to mind to me about some of the communication issues I encountered.

It was like I was dealing with Robin Leach, talking about his local VF scene, and seemingly knowing about as much about VF as the real Robin Leach probably does (or doesn't). Sometimes I just thought I was dealing with a shaken sack of noise (or words) and pomposity, with a hole in it somewhere--despite what I have heard about how great Ryan Hart is (and Mo for that matter).

Anyways... RYAN--YOU ROCK! Great to hear you're in Japan and doing exceptionally well (as some have expected). MO--THANKS FOR BRINGING THE INFO TO US!!! I love seeing the UK represented this way/versus/images/icons/cool.gif

    -creed and chanchai:

i'm unaware about what this has to do with what i am talking about. here's what i mean:

as a country, we are'nt usually taken seriously about our gaming culture in general, mainly because culturewise, we have shoddy game conversions, limitation on worldwide games, and really, a lack of enthusiasim toward competative games in general (minus the handful) this is what i mean about our reputation.

now, seeing somebody from the UK travel all the way to japan, and single-handedly taken on the majority of japan's top competative players is hillarious. and technically repersents a small promotion on behalf of UK's competition.

    that's all.....
