Does that means there is at the moment zero progress done on VF6 actual development... ? 2 and half years after vf5us release , and they still "evaluating" !!??? Com on Sega... :/

How can we make it more dramatic? Easy put some Roll back net code, make story ending for each characters with a general plot in the actual game, ultra realistic graphics with excellent animations, mocap and presentation, advanced interactions with environnement (look at Gta6 or Rdr2 as exemples)...

VF3 was 1996. VF4 was 2001. Then VF5 in 2006. Meaning we are overdue for a new VF game at that pace by over a decade at least.

I wouldn't be surprised if VF6 just exists on paper. The new VF3TB arcade port is likely a fan project that SEGA co-opted similar to the VOOT 360 port. Meaning they have no active VF projects in development such as VF6 or VF Collection.

Judging by the article, it sadly appears that there is currently no active progress being made towards VF6.

I agree 100%. Fighting games have a habit of being comically over-the-top in some area. Mortal Kombat with its violence, Street Fighter with its stereotypes, Dead or Alive with its Sexiness, Tekken with its devil lasers, and more. VF is the only game committed to grounded realism, so I think that SEGA should go all out on that concept. Make everything have a visceral impact and a realistic depiction of martial arts.

True, but it's possible, that they might slowly be working on a Virtua Fighter 6 game, in secret.

1Super moves: passive: give you more defense, more power, better frames, faster walking speed, or new good moves.
2 able to suddenly switch character in game. Perhaps you can have 3 characters in total that you can switch too, which give an additional strategic depth
3 cool finishers like mortal combat
4automatic mode. You can record and assign combos to a certain button for instance
5special move that make the character take out his weapon of choice
6 design that is catering more to mainstream

Sega's marketing team has already established that titles like

Judgment, and the Yakuza games are what sell. And Arcade Fight Games not so much.

This would essentially be a brand new game fighting game. Sega probably believes that this wouldn't be a profitable investment:whistle:

Im still advocating that they keep the system the same way, but just throw in some new spice. For me thats fine as long as it makes vf more popular for the mainstream.

I think the most important part for me personally that they dont change the design too much, since i cant bear street fighter 6 over stylish, woke style, and that they dont mess with the core system. Im totally fine with mortal combat finishers, or some extra super power here and there.

    Who is the mainstream?
    Which players constitute the mainstream?

    MK players are MK players.
Street Fighter players are Street Fighter players
    Tekken players are Tekken players.
Soul Calibur players are Soul Calibur players,

Occasionally, you have players that play and focus on all four. But usually this is not the case. So, what does mainstream even mean?

VF distinguishes itself from these games by not having mortal kombat finishes and extra super powers here and there.

The vast majority of true Virtua Fighter fans play Virtua Fighter because it does not have mortal kombat finishes or super powers here and there. Virtua Fighter is known for its clean, and authentic martial arts presentation:whistle: Virtua Fighter literally is defined by its no nonsense fighting system.

If Sega were to add mortal kombat finishes and super powers here and there in Virtua Fighter, then the thousands of players who don't want that kind of stuff in their fighting games would have no where to goo_O

Are you suggesting that Sega/RGG should just say F*ck off to the thousands and thousands of Virtua Fighter players who actually play Virtua Fighter primarily because it does not have moral kombat finishes, super powers, meters, power ups, come back mechanics, heat systems, fireballs, whirlwinds, explosions, kangaroos, vampires, and robots???? . If I wanted this kind of stuff in my game I would just play one or more of these:

    • Mortal Kombat
    • Tekken
    • Street Fighter
    • Soul Calibur
    • Blaze Blue, etc
Sega/RGG should just port the complete( as is) VF4EVO +VF5US online to PS5, Xbox Series, P.C., Nintendo and make sure that it is ported to future game platforms and leave it at that. You are either interested in Virtua Fighter for what it is, or you are not:cool:

@Superspacehero Virtua Fighter has its own mainstream;)

The Soul Calibur fanbase is significantly smaller than the other three. I think that is what he meant.

I am one of those people. MK excluded.

Certainly not superpowers, but if there were individual finishing blow animations that showed how the characters finish off their opponent, while also remaining realistic, it could really increase the impact while still remaining true to its roots.

By definition you do not represent the mainstream. The fact that you play Virtua Fighter also verifies that.

Dude, Virtua Fighter already has this:ROTFL: What ever move you finish your opponent off with is your finishing move and it is immediately shown in the replay at the end of the match.

Now, you may want those replays to be made more dramatic in some way, but the finishing move is what ever move you finish the fight with:rolleyes:

Further, if mainstream means which ever game has the most sales, then Virtua Fighter should be more like Forte Nite, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, or Elden Ring. If you get specific and say that mainstream means which ever fighting game has sold the most, then many would argue that Virtua Fighter should be more like Smash Bros:cautious:

@Solomon Rayland the fact of the matter is there is no one left at Sega/RGG that is passionate about the martial arts, realism, or authenticity in fighting games. A good game requires passion and commitment for the game's subject matter by the developers. The passion for Virtua Fighter at Sega left with Yu Suzuki:oops:

All that is left at this point is producers, directors, and marketing people trying to figure out the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to monetize the Virtua Fighter IP so that they can squeeze the most money out of it as possible:notworthy:

@Solomon Rayland if you really are a true fan of Virtua Fighter you wouldn't want the current Sega/RGG team to have anything to do with the next VF (if there is going to be one). :ninja:

Exactly. I do not represent the mainstream at all, as I do not play any of the games you have listed below (but I want to play Elden Ring).

That is true, but the replay version is never actually given much of an impact outside of specific moves (because they do a triple repeat).

I never said that VF should cater to the mainstream. What you are saying is exactly correct. The last thing VF should become is more RPG or shooter. At that point, I would rather choose hit sparks (not that I want hit sparks, but I would choose them over a complete change of genre).

The sad truth is that Virtua Fighter's actual appeal is its deep and balanced gameplay that doesn't have a lot of room for BS. Unfortunately, it's hard to get most mainstream people to see why the mechanics are truly amazing.

VF has Fighters and it's weak on "Flashy Characters" as most mainstream folks prefer.

This is a result of slow brainwashing and psychological manipulation. Its an old Arcade design trick. Certain colors and sounds create a carnival or amusement park atmosphere. Tekken 8's graphics and sound track, music has this down to a science. Literally down to a science. The same holds true for Street Fighter 6. Players literally can't help themselves to be drawn to these games because color and sound are being used as a form psychological manipulation. It doesn't matter how much trash the game actually is. The explosion of certain manipulative colors and sounds render the player of the game helpless and create opportunities for addiction:whistle:

When Virtua Fighter was designed it wasn't going after the usual Arcade addiction techniques. Yu Suzuki was exploring realism and true 3D animation for the first time in an Arcade environment. That's why Virtua Fighter is so different from all of the other gotcha Arcade fighting games out there:cool:

Today, if you want authenticity, realism, plausibility, etc in a fighting game, you won't find it , Tekken, Street Fighter , Mortal Kombat etc.

"This is a reboot that is not in development by RGG Studio. It is being developed by staff from latest Virtua Fighter games. There are single player and multiplayer elements that are targeting casual and core players including competitive players. "

If this new VF games is developing NOT by RGG Studio, but old original team "staff from latest VF games" - this is an AWESOME news!
B/c RGG and Seiji Aoki did almost all things wrong imho.

The only positive innovation from RGG was the VFtv window on main menu screen.
