    GP....no nippon here neh!

But they don't look like new games, just some cosmetic touch ups....I guess it's just a release of some classic hits.

Kind of off-topic, but didn't Sega make a new Space Harrier (a completely new game, full 3D) a few years back? I remember seeing screenshots and then never heard about it again...

    Gonna answer everyone:

These new Sega Ages are remakes... they're not ports. Look for my other posts in here that has a link to SA1-3 (Phantasy Stary, Fantasy Zone, and...er.... something else). The graphics are totally redone, but they're not made to look like something of todays standards, so they'll kinda keep that retro feel. Hence, the 2500 yen price.

1-3 come out in about a month. I can't wait. Phantasy Star looks beautiful. It's remaining in 2D though, as is Fantasy Zone, although they're adding elements from Space Fantasy Zone - the Turbo Duo version that was never released, but there's betas of it flying about if you look.

The "NEW" Space Harrier game that came out was Planet Harriers. It came out about 2 years ago, and was unfortunately very short-lived. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

But gaijin do you know of any news of them being released in europe or america?Just the thought of re-living those golden old days of the golden axe coin op is too much for me....actually if it does come I'd be able to use by SC2 stick for full retro feel!

I doubt they'll come back in the states or Europe. While Phantasy Star could be considered a successful RPG on an unsuccessful system, Sega is in general afraid of RPGs in the west... to say the least.

Golden Axe and some others are a different story,, but who knows, eh?

If you want to play Golden Axe, I suggest a modified X-box with MAMEoX on it (it's amazing). Plays all those old classics flawlessly, and with a controller on your TV, instead of your (blech) computer monitor. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sure...Planet Harriers. It came out a couple years ago, while the Dreamcast was still alive. There was talk of a DC conversion, but it never happened. It was a pretty good game, basically a modern Space Harrier except the characters were always flying (maybe there was a running sequence somewhere).

And, besides, didn't Sega already bring back Space Harrier when they made Panzer Dragoon?

Thanks for the tips.Actually I'm probably sure I could track down an old megadrive cheap second hand somewhere and play it on that but in the mean time I'll cross my fingers that Golden Axe does get the green light over here.Man I just thought about Final Fight too.I know theres a version on the game boy but a port/remake of it like the versions of SF2 on the psone would be ace! Well, heres dreaming...

I picked up Phantasy Star the other day. I haven't had the time to play into it much, but thus far it's an considerable overhaul of the original, both graphically and in some of the gameplay fixes. I quite like it, although those new character designs are hideously generic-looking. :\

The management at VGD are all big PS fans, so they've ORDERED me to come in and show them the bosses once I reach one.

Here's the rest of the upcoming lineup:

    - Bonanza Bros.
    - Columns
    - Outrun
    - Afterburner
    - Gain Ground
    - Decathlete Collection
    - Virtua Racing
    - Alex Kidd in Miracle World
    - Phantasy Star II
    - Phantasy Star IV End of the Millenium
    - Bare Knuckle
    - Last Bronx

Half are really cool, and half leave me scratching my head. Seriously, why are they even bothering with Alex Kidd, which was mediocre even back in the day? Where's Wonderboy II/III and Sonic CD?

    I bought fantasy zone.
I do not have a problem with the loading time..didn't find any thing wrong with it.
(bear in mind, i survived VO:marz's loading time)

The gfx are soooo awesome..n it's soooo fun!

Streets of Rage 2 is still the best 2 player scrolling beat em up around and unlike alot of the games on that list would still be fun to play now in it's original form.

It's unbelievable that SOTR2 still hasn't been considered yet. The 2 player scrolling beat em up is dead and nothing beats this game.

Maybe they'll include it in the next Sega Ages or something, since this, according to the list, has SOR1 (Bare Knuckle is SOR isn't it?).

i liked bare knuckle3 the best, it had a way faster flow of play (part 2's combos was like bullet time, *cringe*) bare knuckle 1 was just horrid in comparison (apart from adam, 8d).

i like that line up, lmao at bonanza bros, that game was joke, kudos to last bronx tho, underground goodness /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

P.S = COLUMNS!????? why are they bringing back such a weak ass title like that? the amount of clones in it's time was countless! (got me sick of puzzle games in general)

I never played SOTR3 but your the first person I've come across that's said 3 was better than 2.

I really want SOTR2 because they don't make games like this anymore. There are certain things a scrolling beat em up needs and every one I played from 32 bit period onwards didn't have em. These would be: characters with lots of satisfying moves, enemies that force you to use them and are a good challenge, varied enemies that require different approaches, a 2 player mode, great bosses etc.

SOTR2 had all this and great music to get you going too.

Try Viewtiful Joe, if you consider that a traditional side-scroller. I had the most fun with it /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I made a bunch of posts on other boards about the new Phantasy Star... to sum up.

1: Story is 100% linear now, which takes away the gem of the first one, which boasted of totally non-linear gameplay
2: Theer's a LOT of talking, and triggering the key events can be a pain sometimes. I can remember two cases where you have to use the "consult" button in very specific spots
3: The consult command (which was in PSIV) isn't always useful
4: Different enemies have different magic tolerances now (unlike the original, but like more standard RPGs)
5: Tairon's (Odin's) use of Guns is different. Some hit all enemies, some hit on enemy twice.
6: TWo types of enemy on screen at once
7: Rappies have made their way into the scene.
8: You can buy an Atlus which will map the next 100 steps in any dungeon (A big help!)
9: There are crystals which add that flavor of magic to your attacks. Fire, Ice, etc. If you wear a heal crystal, you get healed after every move.
10: Some items that weren't in the original, like Monofluid (which I don't think you can buy, but have to find) which gives you some Magic points back.
11: The game is terribly linear
12: Can't use the Land Rover on Dezoris, and apparantly it just sucks in general this time.
    13: Redone music is nice.
14: Different dungeons have different designs -- not just different colors

Overall, it's good. The non-linear thing really pissed me off though.

Gain Ground is the next one I'm REALLY looking forward to, although I'll gladly play volumes 4 and 5. (NOTE: Gain Ground, and all other System24 games are currently unemulated).

I translated an interview of one of the original Gain Ground developers. You can get to it from the front page of my site at http://www.classicgaming.com/japangaming

Youre not making much sense with most of youre points and yes even in the original magic had an effect on creatures, an ice creature will get more damage if you do a fire spell.
It was like that on SMS already.
