1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

Sega has problems with US Tournament DVDs?

I've been away a long time, so... my bad if I am bringing up something that had been talked about a long, long time ago.

But apparently, videos of VF4 Evo on the Evolution 2004 DVDs were eventually (not initially) taken out because Sega threatened the SRK/Evo2k staff. At least that's what I read in a thread on SRK and Mr. Wizard made the comment that Sega had threatened to sue.

Granted, it is their right because they have control of (or the ability to sue over) the presentation of any of their properties.

But I still think that was a stupid decision (I'm assuming it's true). But does that mean that SRK/Evo2k staff won't even attempt to have VF5 on the Evo2k7 DVD? Assuming that DVD ever comes out (umm... did 2k5 come out? I know 2k6 is yet to be released).

At least Sega didn't threaten to sue esports for their coverage of the Buy.Com LAN2007 event. I don't think they did anyways. And with Evolution having a sponsor, maybe somehow that might affect a decision?

VF could use as much publicity (even niche publicity) as it can get...

Sega also shut down Beat Tribe DVD sales in addition to SRK's DVD....

As for Evo2k7 having a DVD with VF5 footage that's more a question for the SRK forums probably.

The initial print had the VF4:Evo vids. I think they removed them after.

When VF5 vids started to come out online (Test version), VFDC setup a Filefront account to host them. It was taken down some weeks later. From what I heard, Filefront removed the files due to copyright infringement. I don't know if Sega was part of this decision but I wouldn't be surprised. Srider and Myke would know more about that matter.

I can't answer your first question, I have no clue.

Evo2k5 DVD was never officially released. They had problems with the distributor and the discs were never printed I believe. After many months gone by, SRK released torrents of the DVD's. They got a new distributor for the Evo2K6 discs and they have gone gold and have started printing.

The Evo2k5 discs might come packaged with the 2k6 discs.

Who knows if Sega even knew about the Buy.com event. My guess is no.

I think we all know how Sega is with marketing after the Genesis years in the US. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

The magazine ads for the Neo Geo SDK were even FUNNIER! Remember:

"If you have a set of [insert pic of steel ballz], you NEED one of these [insert pic of Neo Geo]"

    ......something like that, anyways! ROFLMAOCOPTER!
