Today, Sega of Japan posted a Job Advertisement for 3 part-time positions related to work with AM2 and on the Virtua Fighter Series. The job description includes assisting with production, organizing/creating events, and working on the VF.net mobile website. Specifically, they are looking to hire fans of the Virtua Fighter series. Application deadline is December 7th and the job begins in February 1, 2013.

What does this mean for most of the Virtua Fighter fans outside of Japan? There is speculation amongst the Japanese VFers that these jobs are directly related to the 20th Anniversary of Virtua Fighter in 2013 and Virtua Fighter 6.

OH PLEASE LET THIS BE A GREAT MANY THINGS TO COME!

I'm so glad VF is no longer 'dead' outside of Japanese arcades.

Also i hope they expand the series a bit in terms of being available on other systems (i.e. PS Vita, 3DS, Wii U)

I don't think vf6 is coming. SEGA should first try to promote a little bit more vf5fs. I guess they are planning some vf5fs anniversay edition with some DLC or maybe it's the app for smartphone we wanted some months ago (btw how is that project going myke?)

I think Sega has nothing more planned for VF5FS console ver.
And the arcade got the last revison long time ago.

AM2 might had been working on VF6 since 2010, the timing of an early 2013 VF6 announcement seems right to me.

That doesn't make much sense. There's no reason to promote FS or VF5 (a 6, almost 7 year old franchise, which is the software field's equivalent of a 150 year old man) when it's on the way out even in arcades. There biggest promotion, the "Battle Audition" tournament series, is in its "final" season for the VF5 series as stated by Sexy Saitou numerous times. In non-PR terms, they are not going to promote FS (a two year old game in itself) any longer after Battle Audition is over.

Get ready for VF6 announcement this February. Technically every numerical version of VF is a reboot, but is it going to be a total overhaul? The continuity has not changed for the characters, and the age of the characters consistently progress in real time with each release (a choice, I personally believe, is maintained from the Yu Suzuki era of AM2). What does this mean? That means technically Akira is 44 years old, Sarah is 39, and Lau is 72 years old. For a game that's expected to have at least a 5+ year life span, this might put Akira's time as the VF front man in jeapordy. Are they going to pull a tekken 3 or soul calibur 5 and reintroduce a new brand new cast? Are they gonna pull a SF4 and conveniently 'forget' that timelines exist for the sake of restoring youth to our anachronistic veteran old-timers?

I wouldn't mind either way, personally. But I can't wait to see how AM2 and SEGA will choose to re-envision VF once again for Virtua Fighter 6

The "storyline" up to the Fifth Virtua Fighter tournament is that the events should be 5-6 years since the First Tournament. So Akira would be ~ early 30s, Sarah ~ mid to late 20s, and Lau in his late 50s.

It goes by when the game came out first. So vf5 came out in arcades in 2006 so Akira is 38 years old and Lau is 66 and so on, look at their birthdays and then the year the game came out and there you go you have their age. Good stuff its realistic.

Weird me surprisingly kept track. The ages in parentheses are how old they would have been if they were in that game: Virtua_Ages.jpg

I thought like cartoon characters, they barely age. They don't even look any older other than (from what i believed) a year older per tournament. Like Sarah doesn't look 30's, she still looks 24 (as of VF5, in my belief).

If you read the little snips of story (quotes from the game manuals), the events does not occur by the release date. Also For VF4 and VF5, they become somewhat ambiguous.

VF2 - "One year has passed since the eight of the world's toughest, fastest fighters challenged each other in the World Fighting Tournament."

VF3 - "A year and several months passed when an invitation finally arrived for the Third World Fighting Tournament."

VF4 - "A few months later, the invitation for the Fourth World Fighting Tournament arrived."

      VF5 - "A few years passed..."

Glenn Close was 38 in Jagged Edge, and she looked great - a slim, feisty blonde, bit like miss Bryant. Putting genuinely older looking women in VF6 would be a radical step in the wider gaming world, but then this series has been radically progressive for close on 20 years now. AM2 must have whole departments just on the visual and customisation side of things these days. Truly mind popping just how much work must go into a new VF game.

I hope as an anniversary treat, we get some Live Arcade pure VF3 DLC!

Right, I attempted to match the age progression to the story timelines and found major issues starting with the transition from VF3 to VF4. It seems that the artists for the models and the bio writers may have been following the release dates over the prelude text during production.

I'm personally more comfortable going with release dates though it's not a stretch to go with story timelines, just the "a few months later" tends to throw things off with Eileen.

For fun, I actually did a projection (purely speculative) for VF6 at the time I was tracking the ages on the earlier post: keep in mind these follow the release dates + individual character bios still, so feel free to scale back when taking prelude text into consideration. The only one that really throws it off is VF4's "A few months later".

The "2014" was based on an earliest, most realistic release date I could see based on factors such as "next-gen" console release schedules, development time estimations etc. (used to work in the video game industry for almost a decade so personal experience was factored in as well).

The artist notes were mainly for using close comparisons with matching birthdays. Not really for saying "He/She should play X in a movie".

Anyway this was just for fun for a potential "side-project" I was considering working on.
