Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. SSFIV gets a much higher percentage of its profits from consoles then VF does, that's why it makes more sense.

This is why I'll be shocked if we hear any release date info for KOF13 at E3.

because the game (at least in it's current incarnation) is absolute ass and would tank faster than you can say "king of fighters 12".

Are you being a troll or do you not understand how insanely successful SFIV is in Japanese arcades? Itbashi Zangief and Ohnuki said that there are often hour long waits for SFIV machines at arcades. Most of the posters on SRK that are in Japan have said that SFIV is far and away the most popular game in arcades. The only reason that SFIV isn't an absolute juggernaut is because lots of smaller arcades don't have the initial funds to purchase the hardware but that's more indicative of the health of the arcade industry. And no do not quote Arcadia's biased samples where they say that 6BR and BBCS are more popular than SFIV. They aren't. I would love to gloat that VF5R is beating SFIV in Japan but let's get real. At SBO last year the crowd was pretty much there for only SFIV and they cleared out for the other games.

Even if you don't like SFIV you cannot deny its success in Japanese arcades. Calling the game 'ass' doesn't change that the Japanese are dumping truckloads of coins into it every day. I can't imagine SSFIV being anything less than #1 when it is released in Japanese arcades and that's despite it coming out months after the console releases.

Maybe Sega doesn't need to directly copy Capcom's way of handling SFIV, but something certainly needs to change. We've missed out on 4FT and now 5R because Sega just doesn't know what the hell it is doing. Do you really want to miss out on VF6.1 or 6.2 because Sega is falling asleep at the wheel again? Would it have really killed Sega's bottom line to release a barebones port of 5R on the PSN/XBL while we waited for a full retail release of 5FS in the meantime?

Just a note. Japanese arcades tend to have very specialised crowds in particular for fighting games. Each arcade can have a very different crowd from others in even the same area, because people very quickly find out which ones have the good players for a particular game frequenting them. Thus, you can have one arcade with a ridiculously long queue for Street Fighter and zero patronage for VF, and another that has all the big VF players in the prefecture but only a few SF players. You can't say because a few arcades have big SF crowds that's how it is around Japan. You have to look at what people play in the less well known places as well to get a better picture.

I haven't been to Japan for 2 years, but from what I know, the Gundam VS series has been the top game for around a decade, and Street Fighter 4 didn't change that. You're right that SF4 was pretty darn successful, and the Japanese ARE dumping truckloads of coins into the machines, but SRK's view is a little biased and can be taken with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom made good money off of the console release. I mean, you have to assume that they felt the console market was more lucrative than the arcade, they weren't even sure they were going to release an arcade machine for SUPER at all at one point.

I'm pretty sure they make more money cause they get the money up front, even if you don't play the game for more than a month. If you go to the arcade and only play a few times, they only make a few bucks. On console, you pay all of the money up front so they don't need to worry about keeping you coming back.

Regardless, I would not say this game sucks at all, it's a good game.

I don't think the idea that they could make more on a console version than an arcade version is that far fetched.

EDIT: Plus, you have to think of the potential audience. There's literally tens of millions more potential buyers for a console version as opposed to Japanese arcades. One doesn't preclude the other.

The console version just gives access to 10-20 million more potential buyers, that's where the big difference comes in.

HUGE over statement right there. KOFXII failed due to lag, not poor gameplay.

I dunno about that... I think it failed to both, honestly. Whatever hype the game had was killed by the lag, regardless of the game system. But as far as the gameplay goes, it felt monotonous to me... I mean everybody had a C or D to CD attack and combo off of that... Those critical hits weren't great either... Plus the combos off of that were monotonous as well... I compare xii to '98 and xi, and it didn't meet up to those standards...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If Sega were likely to make any money from releasing VF5R or Final Showdown, then they would. Them saying that it's "due to the various conditions surrounding the home console market" is one way of saying that not enough people on console are interested. If VF6 comes out, the same may be for that as well. Sad I know, but that's just the way it is.

you do know that ami actually shut themselves down to get out of their contract with snkp after kof12 bombed in the arcades?

as far as i'm concerned, the man who owns and operates arcade ufo is more reliable of a source than any chucklefuck in the game journalism industry.

Yeah but the next post literally said, and I quote:

    That's a nice little story.

I'll give you a day to come up with your sources before banning you.

TBH -- I don't even know what AMI is [IMG]

I wish I could threaten to ban anyone who posted something not completely true, or didn't reveal their sources due to respecting to keep their identity hidden, then I'd be the most powerful man in history.

Or wait, was it the other one. Douchebag.

It is only a matter of time. I hope I don't have to wait too long. I could understand if this was Virtua Fighter 6. This is only a Virtua Fighter 5 updated version.

If Sega is going to be like that I will quit gaming all together. Life is short.
