SF4 Impressions (after actually playing)

I'm sorry to start another SF4 thread and if this gets deleted by the mods, I understand. I just wanted to get opinions from people that sat down and played sf4. What they think, what they like, what they dislike, etc.

Personally, I gave it an earnest try for the second time yesterday (first time was in october for a week) and i'm just not that into it. The control and gameplay feels like EX/CVS1, neither of which I really liked. Before you go bashing me, please try to understand that its just my opinion and doesn't mean i'm stating facts.

Anyways, I just would like to hear others opinions about the game. Thanks.

My opinion on the game is that I don't really care too much, but the fact that Viper is so much fun to use and do combos with I can't put the game down.

    Viper keeps me playing.

Personally I did not like STHD one bit, and wasted my money on that, but so far SF4 was worth the purchase just to do combos and moves with Viper alone.

It's the only fighting game I can get regular offline competition for, the last week has been testament to that.

I don't really like Street Fighter II, but everyone plays the game so I do too. I'm more of a 3rd strike kind of guy.

Anyways, Street Fighter IV feels like a mix between 3rd strike and SFII to me. It's like a SFII with dash, easier links/cancels into super, and Focus Attack which can kind of act like a parry if you get my drift. Overall, I think the game is pretty well made and I won't be putting it down for a while.

By the way, I'm trying to use Chun Li as a main. I've never played a charge character seriously so this will definitely be fun for me. I look forward to fighting some of you on live! =D

With me it always starts with interesting characters and I thought Abel, Gouken and Fei Long would be cool to use. I started with Abel and so far he has not been a disappointment. I am logging about 3hrs a day for this game alone and that's pretty good. I've only played online once and it was pretty good.

BTW I love the way you can be playing in your Arcade game and a new warrior can op in from the Internet. That really gives it and arcade feel, Cool!!! You don't have to sit around and keep trying to get an internet match; just go about your business and wait for someone to op in.

Aside from match-up issues, I think the game is alot of fun.

Play as Sagat, you won't have many match up problems.

I like Abel and oddly enough, Rose. Always thought I was gonna hop right on the El Fuerte train.

The lobby system and matchmaking on this game is just crap so far. Takes forever for it to bring me up a list of matches, quick matches always brings up bad connections for me, and people drop out or leave half the time I join a game.

Also, I don't know if I haven't figured it out yet, but only 1v1 lobbies really sucks.

I thoroughly enjoy the game...when I can find a damn match.

Being an old time SF player... SF4 came as a bit different when I first started it up. As I played for a few hours I started to get use to the new game play system and look. SF4 also has more depth as you go and I'm interested in learning about the new focus system.

    So far so good.

Took awhile to get use to the actual feel of it. Even now it still feels foreign to me. But when you land a big combo, it feels amazing lol.

I'm loving it. And the console version is just the complete package. Lots of stuff to do when not actually playing others.

It's also visually the most impressive fighter I've seen I believe. Level of detail and animation is just nuts at times.

I can't wait till the US collectively gets better at the game. Always gets more fun then.

Only my 2nd day in, and while I've had fun (at times) doing the challenge mode combos, the jury's still out for me. I think it's similarity to the EX series is somewhat of an appeal for me, since I'm one of the few who really liked that series.

But, as I've yet to face any high level competition, it's only a matter of time when the combo novelty wears off and I look to the actual mind games for satisfaction/enjoyment. Whether there's enough for me to stay interested and competitive remains to be seen.

I'm loving the game it's pretty much everything I wanted it to be. It teaches you how to use the chars if you don't already know a la vf4 evo which is a huge bonus to me. Cuts down needing to search SRK which is down half the fn' time anyway.

It took me about 5 hours to get used to the new feel but once you adjust to it FC's start to feel natural in the game. It just has a strange initial feel but it's still SF.

I'm still struggling a little with the weird timing for jumpins but getting my head around FC's and the rest comes naturally. It's a solid game.

since I tried a torrent version of this game like 5 days ago for about 2-3 hours I haven't touched it since and don't feel any desire to walk 4 blocks to pick up my 2 collectors copy for both systems... what does that tell you!

I'm not impressed by this game and personally feel they went backwards, well to far back in terms of game play.

    Lack of supers

Horrible fat man jiggling character designs

Shitty cut scenes that leave you super confused and asking more questions than necessary

Ending that are worse than the cut scenes

KOF Boss with all the KOF gayness

meh... I'll stop here. I'll most likely stop by Gamestop tomorrow and collect my money back for the 2 collectors edition. I don't even think the Anime that comes bundle with the game could change my mind on a purchase at this point.

This I agree with although I really like el fuerte's design. Viper and abel - indifferent.

I just dont dig how this one feels. The character movement (walking and jumping) feels like a cross between EX and CVS 1. Again, it's just my opinion so please don't kill me! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Playing Sf4 really makes me like VF5 even more. I've decided that even if R doesn't show up (honestly I DO think it WILL show up) I will still continue playing VF5 to at least some extent. Until I know all the characters, situations, frames, etc, there is something to learn for me.

Finally got this game this late afternoon.
Well, I can't judge this game is good or not but the animation is really awesome!!!

I believe most players here consider the balance seriously coz that's the reason make VF become the best fighting game!!!
Relax yourself and try it, don't think too much, maybe is a good way to enjoy SF4~~

One question, I can't see the connection and it seems all opponent with me are no bar at all!!!

This reminds me of what the Street Fighter series is all about.
They release a new series and it takes two or three variations to get it right.

    Example:
Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting > Street Fighter 2
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo > Super Street Fighter
    Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike > Street Fighter 3
Street Fighter Alpha 2 > Street Fighter Alpha

For now I will have fun and take the game as what it is.... at least until Street Fighter 4 Turbo is released.

I'm not digging as much. The game feels slow and floaty. I think I'm not going to play this game for a long time. The Art Direction is killing me! We went from "Let's get it on now"(3rd Strike Menu Song) To "The you feel what's inside me, this feeling I have"(SFIV gay J-pop song)
The Cut scene's are a waste of production, the Gears Of War character models doesn't fit Ryu, Ken, Claw and Chun-Li IMO. I like it on Sagat, Blanka, Boxer, Honda, Zangief and Dictator for instance. I've give it another week, but as of now, I don't like it.
