Well, IGN reported that there will just be subtitles for the american version. Now question, will the chinese people actually talk Chinese? I personally thought the voice acting was excellent in Shenmue 1 and would of liked to of had the voice's in english where applicable just because it allowed me to become that more immersed in the game.

I think it's in least, all the trailers and videos I've seen of the game till now have been in Japanese. This of course begs the question, how do people in HK and China speak Japanese so well? Guess they didn't want to go all the way with the realism thing.

I think it's just an issue of time, what with the end of the Dreamcast and all. I thought the voice acting in Shenmue ranged from the impressive (the major characters) to the laughable ("I'm going to be a school teacher. I looove children!"). As long as you don't have one person doing half the voices, you're alright.

Perhaps when Shenmue 2 makes the inevitable jump to another console, the English dubbing will be in place. The ideal situation, however, would be to offer both subtitles and dubbing, and let the consumers choose for themselves.
