Link to the Shenmue 3 new trademark: http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/38960284.html

Holy shitballs !!! Games radar just leaked that Sega has trademarked Shenmue 3 for consoles. It's been over 12 years since a Shenmue game has been released. Every damn Tokyo Game Show and E3 we got our hopes up for this game to show. Every year was another disappointment. God damn it, this is the year!

Last Summer Edge magazine voted Shenmue3 as one of the most wanted sequels. I knew they had some prior knowledge . You don't just pull a long dead series out of your ass as a most wanted game unless you know something you're not allowed to talk about.

All those teasers of Ryo in Sonic All Stars racing are about to pay off!!! Can I get a hell yeah??? W00t!!!

    I dunno...

This IS sega we're talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if Shenmue 3 was a card game for iOS or something.

The only thing that happened was that SEGA renewed their trademark. That doesnt mean much at all

tyhey didn't "renew their trademark". Sega registered a trademark for a new Shenmue game. if you're going to be pessimistic , at least be accurate. Toydingo made more sense. All we know for sure is Sega is making a new Shenmue game. Worst case scenario it's an IOS game. Think for a second: Sega released Shenmue Gai for mobiles in 2010. They are in no danger of their trademark for Shenmue "expiring", and as far as I know, trademarks don't expire in the first fucking place so why would they have to "renew" it.

Neogaf leaked there is a new 3rd party exclusive for XBone to be announced at E3, it could be this, or Titan Fall 2. Sony has an unannounced Studio Japan game to reveal at E3. It could be this, with Yu Suzuki at the helm of the project. Suzuki has been collaborating with PS4 Lead architect Mark Cerny om the Shenmue Post mortem at the recent Games Development Conference. That raised a lot of eyebrows and started the rumor that Shenmue 3 might come to PS4. Acting as a translator for Suzuki as Cerny did at GDC is way below his paygrade.

Just hope it is an actual console game that concludes the series and not another mobile game.

Ok take things with a gain of salt. A little skepticism is to be expected after over a decade of waiting. There are a lot of little clues being dropped around as to Shenmue's fate. Some may say they are coincidences, but when they start to add up, they become evidence. Case in point, an April 12 article in Eurogamer reported that when asked about Shenmue 3 , the reporter surprisingly was told by Suzuki that the game is not just a dream, but has a chance of becoming a reality , Suzuki also told the reporter something he is not able to disclose at this time(nda? News embargo?) . http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...ay-shenmue-3-half-life-3-or-the-last-guardian

To add to that, recently on May 02, British newspaper " The Guardian" published an article called "Shenmue : Discovering a Sega classic 14 years too late. ". http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...-sega-classic-14-years-too-late?commentpage=1

Wow. That's an awful amount of media attention for a game that's supposedly dead and never being continued as some of you know it alls are implying. My take: Shenmue 3 is coming, several people in the media already know about it and possibly knew as early as last summer ( hence the Edge magazine Shenmue nod). There must be a news embargo keeping people quiet.

A lot of the naysayers are just going to turn into negative douches once the game is released and hate on it. It just wouldn't be the Internet without those kinds of people.

    • unnecessary name calling
Yeah the reporter really should have used a 2014 review as reference for a 1999 game, jackass. In other completely off-topic news , Pai sucks ass and only scrubs use her. Only effeminate girl-boys use emoticons. Now shut your twat, Douche.

I want to be optimistic, but it's so hard after all this time and false alarms. Would be nice, especially after Sony were cock-teasing everyone with rumours about it for PS4.

As said earlier though, this is Sega, it's almost as likely for this game to be a dating sim exclusive to BlackBerry mobile devices or some bullshit.

EDIT: Has any reputable, or even semi-reputable news site reported on this?

Lets rewind the clock a little bit. Back to GDC 2013. The infamous pic of Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny , which sparked a lot of speculation that Shenmue 3 would be coming to PS4. I did some research and there is a good reason for that speculation: the pic was originally tweeted by Games Developer Conference Director Meggan Scavio with the Caption " Suzuki and Cerny talking strategy for Shenmue 3". Here is the link.

Later in 2013, December to be exact , Gamespot listed as their list of 2014 predictions that Shenmue 3 would be announced at GDC 2014. You asked for a reputable site weighing in on this , I give you Gamespot.

    Link: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/10...y-happen-in-games-in-2014-maybe/1100-6417184/

Look at that list of 2014 predictions; almost all of them have come true or are obvious (no MGS5 in 2014, duh).
The PS4 Vr prediction has come true, Fallout 4 has been announced, the Last Guardian has all but been confirmed for PS4. The only prediction I have doubts about on that list is Half Life 3 being announced this year. Makes little difference as HL3 is inevitable eventually. So far they are 7 for 10 on that list, and GTA5 for PC is a no brainier, which will make them 8 for 10.

Gamespot is not clairvoyant . They have insider info. If you look at that list, they look like they are less likely "predictions" and more likely passive aggressive leaks of information Gamespot was given in confidence. Shenmue 3 is coming. Believe it.

This month Shaun McGinnis of gamespot did a video, the Shaun Method of himself playing Shenmue. Interesting choice of games, since McGinnis usually only features new and current games on his show. I find it suspiciously convenient that Shaun does a Shenmue feature mere days after Sega trademarks a new Japanese Shenmue game.

So when this doesn't get announced at E3, do we OS into "wait for TGS"? Then from there, begins the cycle anew....

Sega did say they will announce a big surprise in 2014, unless that surprise was sega cup 2014 or that new sonic game. Or maybe...

How about neither? Sega will announce it when they have a solid release date. Back in '09 , at TGS they informed staff at 1up.com and EGM that they were importing Yakuza 3 to PS3. EGM came back from Japan saying " yeah Yakuza 3 is coming to the west". Sega neither confirmed nor denied EGMs claims for months. But they didn't make a formal announcement of the game because they had no release date. That left everyone doubting EGMs word that they were assured Yakuza was coming to the west. It wasn't until months later that sega formally announced Yakuza 3 for the U.S.(with a solid release date).

Same thing with Final Showdown . LA Akira assured us it was coming , yet it wasn' t announced at TGS or E3 2011. Everybody was saying "Trust LA" for months while Sega kept quiet. Sega quietly announced it months later( with a solid release date) along with the Southtown Arcade tourneys. These are niche games and fan service , they won't get major attention at trade shows. I expect a modest Shenmue 3 announcement by the end of the year, once they lock down a release date.
