Should Sega Open Source Virtua Fighter?

Since Virtua Fighter is the recognized standard of 3D hand-to-hand arcade fighters, and Sega really does not have any serious plans for the Virtua Fighter IP, is it unreasonable to petition Sega to open source it?

Would open sourcing Virtua Fighter make it easier to get on P.C?

What about making clones of Virtua Fighter that could be GPL'ed?

I'm worried that the franchise is going to be trashed in the near future. I wondering is there anyway to get VF open sourced, or ported to the P.C. where it can be preserved.

Is it possible to GPL2 or GP3 just one version e.g. Virtua Fighter 4 EVO?

Has petitioning Sega to Open Source Virtua Fighter ever been addressed before on VFDC?

 

I doubt VIrtua Fighter 1 contains common code with Virtua Fighter 5 Ulitamte Showdown, so from my perspective VF1 could be? But I don't run the gaming comapny. However, Id Software had a custom, to open source previous Quake, once a new one was released? So, who knows.

 

VF5 essentially is on PC. A Lindbergh Yellow arcade unit uses PC parts. It runs on Linux . The Graphics card is a 700 series Geforce card. Stop claiming some noble motive like "preserve" for VF . VF 1 and 2 have been on Windows PC for 30 years. Just buy an arcade unit if your goals are so noble.

Run this sumbitch in a VirtualBox or on a real machine and it will preserve VF5 and all its updates for years to come. Come to think of it, how come no one has dumped Ver. B anyways... not like it matters since we have a PS4 version with updated graphics and the original PS3/360 ports anyways.

You're right. I've never played Xbox, I'm under contract not to do Microsoft Products
I run Linux, Solaris, HP/UX,etc because they are among the most powerful and flexible operating systems ever made. The kind of software engineering than I'm involved in has requirements where failure is not an option and failure is always an option with Microsoft Windows therefore I couldn't use it, even if I wanted Yea, I'm left handed also

And the fact that I prefer Virtua Fighter over Tekken, DOA, SF, MK etc also puts me in the weirdo category

And where most of the computer professionals that require a lot of mathematics use calculus, linear algebra, stats and a little discrete math, my computer science adventures require abstract algebra, model theory, concept theory, and modal logic. While most AI researchers are head over heals in Large Language Models, Machine Learning, and KD&D, I'm rushing full on into KR & R, Common Sense Knowledge Models, and Inductive/Relational learning.
