Should VF5 get an Americanized version

I think it's about time that the VF5 that gets released in the West gets Americanized so that all of the English-speaking characters dont sound so... inadequate. It would also increase it's appeal, for all of those who actually care about the fighter's personalities before they get involved with trying to play the actual game, if all of the characters got "cooler" intros (when they enter the ring) and win poses.
There's a lot of noobs and duds out there that cant get into VF just cuz it's not "cool" enough and making the characters more interesting, WITHOUT ALTERING THE GAMEPLAY, just the presentation would draw in a bigger crowd, here on the West, and thus make VF more money thus creating more VF. I know VF is all about gameplay and most of us dont care about intros/endings, storylines and personalities but as much as I love the fighting in VF some of those voices and character phrases like "Yeaaaaaah!!!" and "Why am I so great?!" are a little bit out of touch with how people actually talk and sound here in the West, it may sound great in Japan where throwing up the peace sign in EVERY single pic that you take is still /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif"cool", but, is'nt time our favorite and realest fighter out there caught up with the times in terms of dialogue and body language and we got some more realistic reactions from them?

After being a member of these boards for so long its easy to take post like these by new members very negatively, but I think its true. VF could use for some americanization. If the namco designers and vf designers got together what an awesome game that would be.

But as it stands I dont see am2 spending so much money to appeal to the western market which doesnt make up very much of their profits, though they do make off somewhat well in the US and Europe.

I think nothing short of a merger with another company is gonna give the VF series ultra flash like namco or capcom games. Plus the game's look is now considered classic and will proably never change as long as the series is named Virtua Fighter

Thanks for not taking my post negatively and being open minded, I am a HUGE VF fan and in no way meant any disrespect to the series, but it is a fact that not everything that the East deems to be cool is cool on the West and vice versa (for example Tekken is not very popular over there and neither is GTA) but I dont want them to mess with the game's CLASSIC appeal, I LOVE VF's look, it's what comes out of some of a few character's mouths that makes a lot of people I know say "wtf...?" I have tried hard to introduce VF to a lot of my fighting-game-playing friends because they are good at all of the fighting games that they play, from SF to KOF, from Tekken to SC, from MvC to Samurai Showdown, they can throw down with all of these games and when I tried to introduce them to VF (4) they were all open minded when I popped it into the PS2. I remember the intro had them intrigued, as I explained some of the fighting mechanics they were all about some VF man but then they started to get desillusioned with the game and when I asked why they were like "what's up with the American characters in this game, are they gay or something?" I defended my VF cuz to be honest I never really thought about it, "who the hell says 'yeeeaaaaaah!" all the time?". A lot of them just could'nt get over a few of those "extremely distracting" and "annoying" things about it. All I'm asking for is a the same treatment that the Japanese characters get, like Akira or Kage: cool entrances, cool win poses. At least give the English speaking characters (aside from Wolf and Jeffry, they have cool voices even though Jeffry says some of the dumbest phrases "You're never gonna win by that strenght" /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif), at the least, some better voice actors. AM2, are you reading this, please take that voice off of Jacky when you bring VF5 to the states PLEEEEASE... he's not a pre-pubescent boy, he's a man and NO not all white guys have a winy voice and spew out childish phrases. There's other characters, like Brad (my favorite fighter), who's voice is fine but just say the dumbest things You dont have to invest a lot of money into making these changes either, just ask an average Westener "Hey does this sound like something a fighter would say after winning a fight: (insert VF English-speaking character win phrase here)? If you're reading this I gurantee you that interest in VF will rise if you stop making us sound so... you know.

For one I know I'm playing SC3 with the Japanese voice set on... Simply because I can't take some of the voice acting in there. There are some good ones in the game, but most are of meager quality at best I think. As a European I can't stand the fact that Rafael has an Italian name, an intro sequence on Spanish guitar, an English accent... The dude is FRENCH!!! Even most of his weapons' names are of the German and Italian versions of various rapiers... Epee is the only that comes to mind that's French and that's a broadsword for chrissakes!

Its been almost a year since I last watched a character introduction though, I skip them in every game, but the VF ones are definately at the lower end of the spectrum. Some of the 'bouncy' intros, some even include the "boing" sounds, or those with whining in T, DoA and KoF are the absolute worst. Xaioyu acting all scared is simply stupid. Oh yeah, lets not forget GG's Bridget's openings...

That aside, VF really needs a realism update, voice acting and posing wise.

I'd love to hear some French from Lion and Italian from Brad. What kind of name is Brad Burns for an Italian anyhow? Either that or get me a fully Japanese voice set, that way I notice it less. Though with all the anime I watch I'm starting to notice voice acting flaws there as well...

I've heard that the chinese characters in vf don't speak chinese...

    Anyways, here's what I want:

-new win poses: keep the old ones, but add in some cool new ones that keep with the vf charm (nothing too over the top).

-New and reworked lines for all characters.

-Jacky should sound more like...a full of himself american (you know what I'm talking about)

-El-blaze needs to be a mix english with mexican accent/spanish

-Brad should be more like an american italian (who speaks italian sometimes of course)

-Wolf should sound a little more canadian hey

-lion needs to be full fledged french

-jeffrey needs a full out aussie accent hey mate

    -chinese characters all speak chinese

-some sort of story mode (separate from arcade and quest), it's not needed to unlock anything, but it has some cgi or whatever, and just tells a very basic story, nothing fancy (but, you know, make it interesting)

-option to have subtitles (I don't know japanese damn it)

-online (it's a nice feature to have, even with lag; it's not like I have a lot of competition where I live)

So, ya, just throwing ideas out there. I agree fully with you guys that VF needs a little presentation value, because it's not like it's lacking any gameplay aspect.

Edit: And hopefully we could get a compilation of all vf music and set them to whichever stage we want; or use our own music. Maybe Bruising?? Although, that wouldn't be very VF like.

Yea and nay. Yes because it would increase the popularity of the series because americans would feel more comfortable playing it. And nay because if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Don't change Jeffry's voice, just give him more incoherent utterances to say (some unintelligible phrase that he says as if he was making a statement that had sense to it like his "HEY HEY" battle intro) and maybe something about a devil shark once in a while, maybe if he wins he'll scream "devil shark" or maybe that's when he loses and continues or something.

Those are some good observations, I specially agree on the fact that watching subtitled foreign anime or even movies (like Kung-Fu Hustle for example) is always better than watching the dubbed versions.
I think Jeffry's voice is fine too, even though I dont agree with all the stuff he says nowadays, I remember when he use to do this cool pose and say "I'm number one" in Japanese and it sounded like he was saying saying "Itchy bum", now that was funny.

no matter how much debating is done, only one thing will decide if VF5 gets released here, if Sega thinks it can make money or no, sure they could release it off the principle that all of them have been released here but what kind of fuck tard business principle is that? I hope it gets released here and I can introduce cats to the Brad Burns show, starring country folk legend Brad Burns (type Brad Burns into google, you will laugh). /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif:D:D

I've been listening and watching a lot of VF5 matches lately and is it me or did they make Lion cooler?
Cant wait to see what Jacky is going to talk/act like.

    No. No. Seriously, no.

I'd want his VF2 poses back (one foot floating?!), maybe his voice (it was so bad it was awesome).

I miss his VF4:Evo "Muhu, EYE WINNN!" *awesome pose and demented smile*

He sounds too mean now... (not bad, but I like happy retard Jeffry) agro-tard Jeff.
