T6BR isn't going to establish any technical play for casual players at all. It will sell a lot of copies, but the community will die out after a year, just as it has for every other Tekken game. This is the same for every fighting game.

I don't see T6BR ushering in fans like SFIV did. And if you think people will care about T6BR after SSFIV comes out in the U.S. then you are mistaken. SSFIV will overshadow T6BR completely for everyone but 3DFG fans.

SSFIV is going to be much more popular. No question about it. And it's going to be just as scrubtastic as SFIV Vanilla. So all of this 'progress' that you think T6BR is going to make by creating new hardcore players will be quickly erased by the coming of SSFIV. People will abandon Tekken, and play SSFIV. They'll go from a more technical to a less technical game.

You think people after playing T6B are going to demand technical fighters? Are you delusional? Or just a hardcore Tekken fan?

"Oh my god T6BR is so good I wish all fighters were as technical!"

If people actually wanted technical fighters then Guilty Gear and Virtua Fighter would destroy sales records. But instead they want to see Magneto fight Akuma and see a Kangaroo fight a Robot Fairy. No matter how technical Tekken is, 99% of fans don't care, they play it because of the costumes, the story (HAH!), and the cool flashy moves.

Here's what 99% of people who will play Tekken will demand after playing it: more costumes, more fighting animals, more animated trees and bushes to fight, more flashy moves, bouncing boobs. That other 1%? They are already at TZ/SRK/VFDC and have been for years playing Tekken.

T6BR is a flash in the pan for casual players. SSFIV is the real casual game that's coming out in the future.

Valid post, but I'm not going to respond, because it boils down to my optimism vs your pessimism.

There was a time when fighting game strategy guides sold magazines, and announcements of new fighters made the front covers, not the same nameless FPS military mannequins I see today.

I sense that at the very least, there will be some new blood added to the fighting game community. Just enough that the idea of "learning" a game isn't going to be seen as a chore by casuals, like it currently is.

Fighting games always made covers and still do today. VF4 and 5 made tons of news. VF4 was celebrated as the greatest fighting game of all time by many magazines and websites. VF5 was touted as one of the biggest PS3 exclusives early on. Then VF5 on the 360 was touted as one of the major victories by MS at taking AAA third party titles from SONY. When VF5 got a 360 it opened the door for T6BR to get a 360 release as well which was another major media issue.

SFIV and T6BR have been all over magazines and websites. SSFIV already has made the rounds and it's not even a complete product. Blazblue got rave reviews and made covers like crazy. Even KOFXII was voted best in show for many trade shows and expos (though it got killed in reviews when it came out). You make it sound like fighting games are irrelevant now because of FPS games, and that T6BR is going to push fighters to the forefront again. Fighting games never went away. Sure it's not the age of CE/HF but fighting games are still big sellers.

How long have you been around the fighting game scene? Your optimism is unrealistic. I've been around since SF2 was being dissected on usenet. My pessimism is a more adequate assessment of the fighting game scene. I'll be playing T6BR at every EVO and many majors for the next few years. But beyond that T6BR is going to go the way that every other game before it has. It will dwindle down to a small and very hardcore community.

I'm not disagreeing with you regarding the shelf life of FG's. In fact, that's a natural curve that applies to every game. What's important is that the number of people who don't leave, keep growing.

You can't honestly be saying that pre-SF4, fighting games were still "at the forefront". Back in the day (and it seems you're as old as I am), FG's then = FPS's now. You would remember that we had it all: Fatal Fury, Eternal Champions, Primal Rage, Killer Instinct, the list goes on. And all of them made covers.

Back then it was which FG you played, and how many you played, and how many you played well. And everyone knew how to fireball, dp, juggle, etc. Tricky stuff was cool. Knowing the secret stuff at the arcade was cool.

Now? What do we have left? SF, Tekken, BB, and to a dying extent, SC. Everything else? Pfft in the market. Nobody outside the community knows anything about FG's anymore. The market wrote off FG's as a chore to learn, and it's been the writing on the wall for sometime, especially when FPS games started to pick up, and the arcades started to die out (anyone else notice that the rise of online FPS games happened at the same time?).

I can go on ranting, but the point I'm trying to make is: VF5 showed up at possibly the lowest point the FG market had ever been. Now that people are starting to become more open to the genre again, and are more willing to learn how to actually play than they have been in recent memory, a game like Tekken will prop up the new more-serious-than-casual players (and there are lot) to other technical games like VF.

But again, that last paragraph stems from my optimism. I'm not thinking nor expecting that FG's will return to their former glory days: merely optimistic that the community as a whole will finally grow back to a sizable proportion of the market.

Anyhow, this argument is just going to go in circles. Glass half empty / Glass half full sort of crap.

I haven't been into fighters for over a decade, so i'm cool on T6 or not having VF5R right now. I'm fine with just playing VF5 and SFHDR for my fighters. I mean if someone wanted to "give" me T6 i'd play that mug lol. Why not? Not like you can't play more than one or two fighters.

Ima say this too though. I love playin me some Ninja Gaiden 2. But I wouldn't stop playing it cause France, Germany, or whatever had Ninja Gaiden 3 and I didn't. Just cause a new version is out doesn't make what you have wack. I couldn't see folks straight quiting SF4 if they had SSF4 in Japan with T.Hawk and DeeJay and whoever else they're adding. Could be wrong though. Never know till something like that happens I guess.

Besides, if they do happen to release R in a year or 2, let them work out all the bugs and whatever and make their new versions like they always do before making/demanding a console version so if we do happen to get it, we'll have a nice updated version. With these versions they have it seems like they are public betas in a way. VF5 went up to ver.D, VF5R is what, on it's way to C? If they had released it right away like so many wanted and we had Ver.A and wouldn't get nothing else, lots of folks would be salty that there's a ver.D out with new hitboxes, floating properties, and whatever else they change with newer versions. Then what, quit VF5R cause they have ver.D and we have A?

To each their own though, ya know.

I can tell that I'm going to have fun with T6 and I've already pre-ordered and all but it's for the 360... I really don't think that's where the best online competition is going to be at. Tekken 5DR has been on the PS3 for years and I'm sure that's where the best Tekken players will be, on the PS3 but PSN's online isn't as good as XBL's imo.

So that's the only ittybitty lil prob that I got with this new Tekken, XBL will prob have the best connect but PSN is prob going to have the best players... but we will see.

Other than that, I'm really looking forward to us VF players bringing our own unique styles to this game. I'm sure we can give Tekken vets a run for their money [IMG]
No VF5R? I'll keep playing VF5 still but I'm going to mix it up with some T6 too [IMG]

IF ANYBODY FROM SEGA IS READING THIS: SELL AT LEAST 10 OF YOUR VF5R CABINETS TO SOME LOYAL FANS AND WE WILL ADVERTISE VF5R FOR FREE. NOT ONLY WILL YOU MAKE MONEY FROM THE SALES BUT IT WILL SETUP FREE PUBLICITY/HYPE FOR A CONSOLE RELEASE.
