Ouch! That's BS. I can understand maybe getting demoted within a group, but once you've made it to the group, you shouldn't get demoted any lower that the lowest rank in that group. That sux!

Here's why its backward thinking to just demote you for loosing.

Let Say you've made it, to sentinel. And you've earned you way there by beating some pretty decent players . And lets say one day four or five player well above you skill level on their way to darks layer play you. You loose four maybe five matches in a row and you can end up demoted back to barbarian WTF?

You could legitimately be a veteran, or sentinel, but there could be veterans that are much better than you, ranking up to conquerer or something. Is it really fair to knock you completely out of that group because you met some superior veterans or sentinels.

I think once you've made it to a certain grouping, you should only get demoted to the lowest level in that grouping, because the more superior players are going to move on and take higher ranks. Now if there were no higher ranks for them to move on to, then I can see why you should be demoted. You should get demoted to make room for the better players, but if the better players are just passing through, then it does not make sense to demote you.

I'm stuck on Defender rank at the moment, as soon as I get the rank I've been looking for thats it for ranked mode for me. I don't want to lose a well earned rank, because I bump into ppl who are far better players than I am.

I'm just saying, once you have your black belt, you have it, at least in the martial arts I'm familiar with.....

    Whine.... Whine.... Whine....

I Agree wholeheartedly with this statement! Most fighting games have a similar system with the ranking. In VF though right now it's tough to rank up because people are getting better. I wish I had more time to play online to really target a rank and get it, but right now I feel like I need a warm up before I enter ranked. I always get close then I run into three good players or spammers that kill my rank bar. I have to start from scratch all the time. Work is sucking up most of my time during the week to play, so I only have the weekends. I have to refresh my skills every time with VF.

Nawh, Master Po, that's too much handholding.

I'm 4th Dan atm, and I'm already starting to not need the handholding anymore. I'm starting to fight for the sake of fighting, and I wouldn't care if I get demoted even while at the Dan phase. If low-Dans is where I am in the player pool, then that's just the truth.

Just don't get into low-bar fights so there's no excuse to ragequit. What's the value of a Warrior rank if you just got it early on while all the new players are still learning, and then you clung onto it by not fighting while all the new players kept getting better and you didn't? That's how masters who shut themselves up in their dojos deteriorate in kung fu; they lose touch with the real world.

Be like Ryu. The fight is all.

For anyone who places too much stock into their rank, or thinks the ranking system is "unfair", or has a sore vagina "just because", I thought I'd remind you just how fucking good you've got it.

Have you ever stopped to think what it would be like to be playing this in Japanese arcades? Sure you might be able to pick your first opponent, but if you win then you'd be fucked. There's no decline button to reach for. Someone stronger will see you as a stepping stone and squash you before you even realise what's happened. Not only is your precious rank on the line, but so is your money. If your fragile ego can't even handle playing in the comfort of your own home, whenever you want, for free*, then I'd hate to think what would happen to you in the Real World.

For all the vaginally wounded, here's a couple of tips to help with the pain:
    1. Nobody gives a fuck about your rank but you.
    2. Harden the Fuck Up!
If some of you were half as good as you thought you were, you'd be twice as good as you actually are.

    * I realise that XBL requires membership, but it's a pittance if you compare it to actually paying to play in the arcade.

I admit that I'm one of those guys who cares about my ranked. I'm gonna explain why I don't play ranked anymore though, it's because a lot of times I feel like I lost to lag more-so than the player I was facing. So then I look at my rank, promoted or demoted, high rank or low rank, and it doesn't mean shit because of the lag. It doesn't reflect my ability as a player, my opponent is facing the same ordeal so I should be lower or higher ranked right now for all I know. So then is this a match of who can adapt better to the lag or who is better at adapting to the other player? I'd rather figure that out in players.

I take my rank seriously so to me, rank and games is connected to my pride, if I'm going to lose I want it to be because my opponent was superior, not because the lag prevented me to duck the string and counter him. This is why I'd have no problems playing ranked at the Japanese arcades with money on the line, my pride is infinitely worth more than tons of quarters. [IMG]

In all seriousness, I agree. Don't invest too much into those little silver or gold plaques as they wont help you in tournaments or gatherings if you can't back it up. Imagine how you might feel if someone ended up bragging about "I beat this one guy who was a shatterer on xbox. hes not that good after all!" Don't let that be you! [IMG]

    P.S.
I know for some of you VIDEO GAMES is all you have. It's probably one of the few things that you're not a failure at.
Your life sucks, your family sucks, your job sucks and you probably wish your girl would suck too but she won't cause she's allergic to small dicks (lol that's if you can find a woman dumb enough to date a goober) but hey, there's one thing that you're decent at: taddda! VIDEO GAMES!
Great fucking going, McFly. You've unlocked the video game nerd achievement award. Now go redeem that shit at your mom's house for a free WHOOPS! upside your retarded face.

Look, I love this game, it's a great GAME... but all you twunts talking about whoopin ass, thinking high and mighty of your bullshit rank or thinking that this is more than any other game like checkers, chess, scrabble or R/P/S... lol, can you picture some dude talking shit like "YEAH SON, I JUST WHOOPED YOUR ASS AT R/P/S SON!! UGHH! WHAT'S GOOD! GET AT THE GODDD!"... fuck outta here.

It's just a game. And online, it's whichever way the lag blows.
Respect to the players who take it seriously by practicing and putting in work TO WIN GAMES without getting all uppity about shit.

On a slightly more positive note, my message is simply this: play the fuck out of this awesome game with a fire in your belly. Take every game seriously and respect every opponent. Accept that there are factors online beyond your control and enjoy it for what it is and don't make it out to be something it isn't.

At the end of the day, let your rank simply be a natural reflection of where you're at in the environment you have available to you, and not a measure or validation of your self perceived "skill".

This is so true, but a little harsh. Ya, too many people get caught up in their pride on the game for sure. When I lose, I just want to get better at the game. I get passionate about fighting games because I'm competitive. As a competitor at anything, being humble and focused is hard for many people. Look at many of the great sports players like John McEnroe who flipped out on the ref all the time. He won because he was skilled, but looked like an ass doing it because whined all the time. For all players in VF I'd say fight the urge to get upset about a loss and learn from it. I lose a lot at VF, but slowly I feel like I'm learning little tricks, strategies & techniques that will help me win the bigger matches. Shit happens, but be a calm person whether you win or lose. The real legends at any competitive thing all have one thing in common. The ability to stay calm under pressure whether they win or lose.

    @Myke, @Dr. Familia
Wow... Kinda harsh talk coming from two of the most respected VFDC members. Why so ruff? I think ppl
are just asking questions about the new VF5FS. Especially us on the PSN side. The XBL ppl had online and ranking for vanilla, so perhaps you guys have been through all this B4 and its now boring, and a pain in the a$$.

    Rly? Myke?

    1. Nobody gives a fuck about your rank but you.
    2. Harden the Fuck Up![/size]

    And, Dr. Familia Rly?

"I know for some of you VIDEO GAMES is all you have.
VIDEO GAMES!"

Is it that you guys don't want the new ppl to come back to the site? Or is it that you believe that new ppl aren't reading those 'out-of-nowhere-elitist' comments? Or is it that you just don't give a fuck?

Because VF5FS is new on PSN, it has drawn a lot of new players, and some of the old players are referring new players to VFDC every day, letting them know that VFDC is the place to go to get support ask questions, get answers, meet other decent players, etc. Is this what the new ppl have to look forward to.

Referring to sore vagina's and small dicks @myke @tony rly?
and nobody gives a fuck about your rank, so go fuck yourself!

    rly?

    Wow...

As I look back through the posts, I didn't see anything that justfied this kind of tone... especially when the majority of the posts are bonafide questions about feature that is new to all of us on the PSN.

I guess the goal for VFDC is to have the site only be for an elite few... its obviously not meant for noobs, its obviously not meant for ppl who have no idea what's going on in the Japanese arcades and their ranking and their money online.

@Myke @tonyfamilia, I would expect this from several other less mature members on VFDC, but I would never expect these kind of comments posted in a forum during the first month or so of a new version release. Where ppl , naturally have questions and comments. Maybe those questions and comments are stupid to you, but both of you added nothing to thread in your posts.

Myke if you thought it was a dumb topic, or unworthy topic, or irrelevant topic, then why not instruct one of the moderators to lock it. What's the deal with the vagina and small dick comments?

If you guy feel the need to blast me, then PM me. I'll read it and take it to heart. But for the sake of all the new ppl that will be visiting VFDC over the next month or so, for pete's sake.

I could be wrong, but Myke you and Dr. Familia's posts were dangerously close to trolling, and I have to much respect for both of you cats to expect that.

Please be a little more considerate for those of us on the Playstation side, who are experiencing VF online for the first time, who are experiencing this kind of ranking for the first time. Remember, for us, ranks were something that was earned in Quest mode. So it is a new feature of the game. ppl have the right to have questions, and have comments, without references to sore vaginas and little dicks [IMG]

honestly, i agree with everything you posted here, masterpo. i clearly don't know Myke or tonyfamilia in person but since they're two of the more well-known names in the VF community, i expected better from them.

Myke, tonyfamilia, i don't know what exactly your beef is with new players, but talking down to them and personally insulting them is a BAD way to get people interested. way to take the high road.

if it's just a game to you, why are you taking stuff like that so personally? i thought you two were supposed to be among the beacons of maturity based on your tenure with VF games. i may be mistaken.

look, i'm nowhere CLOSE to the level you guys play at, but i would like to think i can handle my own emotions with the best of them. this is probably the worst showing of leadership i've ever seen in a video game community.

the North American VF crowd is scarce as it is. alienating new players based on scrubby tactics or complaints that immature gamers make is counter-productive. all you guys really did was pound your chests in a fit of rage, spouting off how much better off you are than people you don't know, not just in that game, but in real life (are the comments about someone's genitalia or love life really necessary, especially over a VIDEO GAME?). that kind of bullshit is childish and pathetic. someone's personal life (especially people you don't know) shouldn't be any of your business unless they're gullible enough to tell you about it.

stuff like this pisses me off. it has no place in a discussion like this. that kind of crap makes you no better than the people you're insulting. at least their beef is centered around the game (warranted or not, although most likely not). to make it personal is just plain low.

Lol, MasterPo, dude, my post was not as serious as it may have come across to you. I didn't take Myke's post as angry or mean either. It's just that when I hear a lot of whining (not just on this site) it kinda starts fucking with me... it probably didn't help that I haven't slept in over 24 hours either, lol.

Basically, the whole narcissistic entitlement mindset bugs me a little. And when people let a couple of wins in a video game go to their heads as if they actually got up and did something great for their life/fam/country... it's kinda silly to me.
What the fuck did you just do? You won a match in a fucking video game, calm the fuck down.

I play this game 'cause it's fun.
I've never thought that I'm some sort of badass just 'cause I push a few buttons and guess right more times than my opponent.
It's fun to outguess my opponent but that's all I did, outguess you.
So when I get outguessed I usually just give props. Like "good job!". That's it. Win or lose, it's just a game.

Today has been kind of a crappy day man and people who take this or any video game too seriously tend to annoy me. Have you ever watched "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters"?
I can't stand people like that asshole with the mullet.

Anyway, I didn't attack anybody in particular... why so serious?

I can only speak on my behalf but I welcome all new players to VF and try to help out as much as I can. I think Mykes comment was meant simply meant to say.. "don't worry about your rank too much as what really matters is what you can do in the game".

joking or not, there are plenty of better ways to communicate your point. i can't stand people who rub a video game in someone's face either. that's probably the worst way to behave over something that has little to no bearing on others around you (or in general).

i don't think personal attacks (including indirect ones like suggesting anyone who acts that way must have a boring/unfulfilled life) are the best way to communicate to someone "hey, it's just a game. if you really aren't having fun with a game because of some technicality or whatever, just stop playing it or work hard to improve instead of making excuses."

@L_A you're right, I do know what Myke was ultimately trying to say. He could've just said it, just like you posted. Of course he's the right to post whatever he feels, but I'm being as honest as I can be, I've met so many knew players on PSN so many, I've directed I can't even count how many to VFDC for questions and explanations and more information about ranks and everything else, and then they get here, and get vaginas and dicks insulted by two of our senior (well respected members) I embarrassed [IMG]

    @Tonyfamilia,

We've crossed a few posts over the years, but in the end, I have a great deal of respect for you, and I look at you as one of go to ppl on this site. C'mon man, if you can't talk about
your video game rank, on the site that is dedicate to that video game, then what up?

Let me tell you why this PSN rank means at least a little. I 've friended scores, of ppl since the game dropped. Only a small percentage of them ever passed 5th kyu, an even smaller percent passed Hunter, only 1 passed Guardian. Since these folks are on my friends list, I'm going to asked the ones that didn't go further than 5th Kyu, are they stickin with the game, and if not, why not? And the ones that passed Hunter are going to be candidates for intermediate to advanced players. AFAIC rank can give you some indicator about the players.

But the point being the title of this thread is:

    VF5FS Online Rank Titles

Now if you can't brag about, or whine about, or ask about, or discuss Rank, in a topic with that name, then what's the point?

I dunno, I used to think a site like VFDC was a place where geeks, nerds, gamers, etc, who had a passion for VF could meet up, get game information and exchange mutual feelings without being told they were pussies, or without being smacked for bringing up how they rank in VF.

    I mean rly...

we're on a site dedicated to Virtua Fighter and its community
and we get one of the community leaders posting:

"Nobody gives a fuck about your VF Rank but you!"

    What's next?

Nobody gives a fuck that you like Akira but you
Nobody gives a fuck that you understand frames but you
Nobody gives a fuck that you put up a video stream but you
Nobody gives a fuck that your main is Jean but you.... etc

Well, I care... I like to exchange VF experiences with other ppl who enjoy the game, I'm interested in their rank and what class they've made it to in Single Player. I'm still a class C1 by the way. I like to hear why ppl main Jean, or Lau, or Pai,etc. I log onto the site because I want to read Virtua Fighter related geek, gamer, nerd, bullshit. If I can't read it on a site dedicated to the game, then where?

@Tonyfamilia, @Myke maybe there is more to life than video games and VF, but ppl coming to the site aren't here to experience that more-to-life stuff, their here for VF, as geeky, nerdy, and freaky as that sounds. Maybe you cats have out grown the game (that's understandable) Maybe you've lost the fire and passion for it that you once had (that's understanable too). But please don't rain on the parade for the rest of us, that are super excited right now about a new version of Virtua Fighter that has finally come to PSN.

Don't we deserve a few months of VF bliss and naievety?
Can't we bask a little while in the fact that we made it to
Assassin, Darkslayer, Conqueror, Raider, Hunter, 5th Dan or whatever, without being called in essence assholes.

My rank is currently Defender, I have a little over 850 games played, with about 150 loses and about 700 wins, My Class in single player is C1, I scored about 1,290000 pts in Arcade scoring mode which makes me in the top 400 PSN players. I'm in the top 1500 players of the 69,000+ players in PSN online, and I'm in the top 500 players if you count by battle points instead of rank. WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

It means I'm enjoying the game [IMG] Its means I've met a lot of players, I've exchanged a lot of friendly messages and a few unfriendly messages about VF. It means I've answered a lot of questions from ppl who are new to VF. It means I've referred a shit load of ppl to the VFDC site who want to know more about the game.

It means I personally have questions about the new ranked mode,
and If can't ask them here, then where?

Honestly my friends, if no one cares about ranked mode on PSN, then why are so many ppl playin it?

BTW guys, I don't recall seeing either of you on the leaderboards [IMG]
