So Where Do Tekken 8 Players and Influencers Go Now??

The Tekken community have helluva hours into getting gude at Tekken 7. Influencers, tubers, twitchers have spent a great deal of time, money and effort to build their channels around the Tekken franchise. The modders have reverse engineered and re-engineered customizations . And all of this leading up to Tekken 8.

• AI Balanced Characters

• Heat System Catastrophe

• $300 Premium edition of Tekken

• $109 Ultimate edition of Tekken

• Battle Pass

• Tekken Store

• Season Passes

• The In-Game-Currency Scam

• Ugly Useless Items in the Tekken Store

• Dwindling Interest In the Game

Its only been 4 months since the release of Tekken 8 and to get every thing in the Tekken Store its over $125 USD. What will the store be like a year from now, or even two years from now?. Remember the thousands of dollars of DLC that DOA5 and DOA5LR ended up with Bandai-Namco is following Tecmo's lead The Tekken players and Tekken influencers have put so much time (and money) into Tekken For some of them Tekken is almost a way of life And now, after all that loyalty, time and money to be betrayed by Bandai-Namco like this In many respects Tekken 8 is in a disastrous state at the moment. The hope is it will all be fixed by season 2 or season 3 I think by season 3 there will be a thousand dollars worth of junk in that Tekken store. Sure there are bound to be some character re-balancing that works here or there. (The AI is bound to get some of it right) I dunno from the outside, this looks like Harada San's Swan Song. Look like he is trying to grab all the cash he can for his retirement. He knows there won't be a Tekken 9, so he's gonna squeeze all the cash he can out of Tekken 8

But where do the players and the influencers go from here? They've just invested too much to quit Do they just hang on like the DOA community Remember paying for temporary hair dye was a bridge too far for the DOA players who revolted against the Tecmo's greed and then Tecmo shut the game down There are a lot of high level players that have a lot of legitimate gripes about Tekken 8 (I'm looking at you Knee) that have openly voiced their objections. But Bandai-Namco is all in on the money grab, and the player exploitation In the words of some bad boys: "What you gonna do when they come for you" . Where can the Tekken players go who they gonna call


My biggest concern here is what lessons are Sega/RGG gonna learn from Tekken's fall from grace Will they realize they need to steer clear of all of this player exploitation, micro-transactions, in-game-currency-hustles, battle passes, AI-rebalancing etc Or will they double down and feel like that can succeed where Harada
has failed

I'm worried about the Virtua Fighter reboot, because I suspect Virtua Fighter's fate is very much tied to Tekken 8's fate

 

I remember that all too well. I still can't believe, Tecmo was able to pull that off. They made a ton of money off of those DOA fans.

If that happens, OG VF fans will complain, and possibly dump that game in an instant. But unfortunately, some of the current players, who want to make it to evo, might semI support that crap.
