SoCal VF Party July 21st, 2006!

i hope it'll be best of 30, at the very least. jeff said 15 max, but i think that's way, way the hell too few. i'd say the specific details of the deathmatch should be worked out asap, along with additional stuff like forfeit-if-paused and breaks and so on and so forth.

 

So after lots of yelling at eachother on #vfhome we've come to this - how many games should be played and in what format? The two options are these:

First to x - x being the amount of matches. In this setup, whoever wins x number of matches first, wins overall.

Best of x - the total amount of x is played in matches, whoever has the majority of wins, wins overall.

What are your thoughts? Personally I've been converted to first-to, but I think the prominent thought of first to 10 is too few, even with a two-win margin.

 

They should play multiple sets, each set first to 20. Whoever wins 3/5 sets wins.

You do realize that "first to" and "best of" are the same thing, just with different numbers, right? Best of 20 is first to 11. First to 10 is best of 19, etc.

 

Plague, I know you've said that there will be video, but do you posess the tech to stream live across the net, or will it be record and encode later vids?

 

Whoa. Streaming video. Never thought about that.


Here's what I have:

Digital Video Camera (which I will use for filming the match regardless of streaming)

Ethernet cable long enough to reach my network

DSL connection rated 3000-6000 / 512-768 Kbps - which is currently (3:45am) running at 4166/627 according to speed tool at dslreports.com


Here's what I think I need:

Computer with capture card plus software to stream

Knowledge of how to do it - preferably from someone who's done it before.


Anyone who can help, please comment. My main concern is, even if the stream is fucked up, I don't want to miss recording it on the DV tape.

 

I prefer first to 15, or more to get a two win lead. One set.

I am willing to go up to first to 30, but no more. I don't think it's necessary to play more than 30-40 games to decide who is better. I don't like "best of xxx" because it's simple majority wins, so it's clearer to just say "first to."

Since I am in the Dominican Republic, I belong to the people that will be saying F*** after this is over.

About the Money Match, all I can say is that there is no match like a money match!!
Each Vfer will have 500 reasons not to loose, so it will be pretty intense.

Just don't make it too long. I would say that "First to reach 20 wins" is Excellent!!
Also, leave rounds in 3 out of 5. If the fighters have similar skills, many of the fights will last 5 round (2-3 or 3-2).

Last but not least, Plage, please go wild on the multimedia!!

Video is mandatory, but photos of everyone, or at least from Zero-Chan /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, are a great bonus for people like me that are destined to miss many if not all of your events.

I read about streaming video here. I don't want to do that. Instead, I'll record and encode.

I suggest for the deathmatch to be first to 10 wins. But the winner needs a to have a two win margin.

Example: If ice-9 gets to 10 and Shang has 5, ice-9 wins. If ice-9 gets to 10 and Shang has 9, then ice-9 needs to win one more to take home the prize where Shang needs to win three in a row to take it all.

You could also cap it at 20. Just in case this keeps going back and forth, the first to reach 20 wins it all.

Anyways, hopefully we get to see some good matches.

Also, anyone think of making a little trailer video to put on a site like youtube? If it was made, I would post a link to it in a few forums. Get people interested. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Let's not blow this event up to an undeserved proportion. I personally think it's something worthy of happening, something that shows that these people are not afraid to back up their words, but I don't think it's right for others to treat this event as public entertainment. So let's stop with all this hyping and trying to decide the rules when this is something that should be settled between Shang and Ice-9. We can only make sure everything is fair, and that things end on a positive note.

 

Can you please give met a time when this match will start. I want to try to make it before then.
