Plague and Catherine- on behalf of all of us, thank you very much for hosting this gathering. also, thanks for letting us stay at your nice clean house (too bad i cant say the same after the 3rd day ), letting us bash denkai with mike tyson jokes as we get drunk at 3am, doing your incident impression, driving us to socal from vegas, driving us out to eat, driving us to la_akira's house, and driving me back to the airport. I figure I should write my post Evo thoughts here...

Plane ride too Ontario was unbearable worst flight ever by far. I was seated side by side with a 12 year old who wasn't accompanied by parents or guardians. Every time I would attempt to go to sleep he would wake me up asking the same old questions "You think we in Texas yet? you think we in Texas yet?" Over in over again for at least 3 hours. The kid suffered from some sort of mental disease which made me wonder why would his parents let him fly alone. When I landed I met up with Goatcheeseblue and thats when I finally realized "Man I cant believe I'm back here again".

Myke- Don't know how long its gonna be but we def have to have another death match again. You did great putting nuki into losers . It's nice to see someone who actually knows how to play kage for once..our jacky/kage matches were too good hopefully the replays will be put up. I Feel I got better in the short time I was there just playing with you

Goatcheeze- your sarah is fast and you take combos when you get the chance. You get a lil anxious though and make some risky mistakes at times.

Sillywillie- you're one of the reasons why I wanted to come to the gathering..screw playing vf I just wanna laugh

renzo- You got better since the last time we played I wish I played against you at Evo world

La_akira- I feel you have the potential to become the best in the USA if you keep it up. Manly because of the vast improvement of your play style

Yosuke- Man you had itazan at the finals but you choked, still thought you're a beast and you made sure I didn't get far at EVO

Plague and Catherine- Thanks again for hosting us, hopefully we can do the same if we ever plan something here in NY

Alex- You got me at the team tournament on the last round (close match thou) so I guess you got your revenge from the buy.com tournament..you better train harder thou if you want to stay on top and don't count on your Vanessia to save you

Ken_I- I don't know why you lack confidence when you play VF.. You can take on Alex if you wanted too. Once you get better mentally you will become a better player

S_aki- Your cooking is awesome simply the best. Your Akria is solid as well

Well nothing funny on my end, but here are some cellphone pics I snagged on tuesday right before the 10 on 10 madness. I would like to say that day I did pretty great in casual play but got completely schooled by Alex's Lei Fei, god I hate that stupid freaking character.

Notes:
-Itazan is rediculessly strong, of the few games I got in with him I think I went 10-1 with my Sarah vs. his WMD... err Shun and 6-1 with my Sarah vs. his Jeff.
-Having pretty much played THE shun player from Japan, I have to say that VF5's balance isn't impossible, I think if someone with skill (ie not me) and determination put his mind to it, they could win match ups like Shun vs. Sarah despite the rediculess gap in strength between the two characters.
-Nevertheless, Itazan is a freakin master of VF, it feels like he controls the whole pace of the match.
-Yosuke is a hilarious dude.
-s_aki is an amazing cook, the only thing I missed about not sleeping in there, of course I probably dodged Willy molestation in the process lol.
-Willy is the funniest man on earth, he MADE the 10 on 10 several times more enjoyable than it would have been.

Notes:
-Flash is another hilarious dude, I wonder if everyone on the EC is this funny. Very loud and fun to play against. Him and Denkai trash talking in the 10 on 10 (then.... getting destroyed lol jk I love u guys) made the day.
-I only got to play monty yesterday and not that day but he is a solid dude, very very very quiet, which I respect, silence is golden.
-DancingFighterG is totally chill dude, we had some great matches yesterday before he left, I kind of blew it though in the last sets screwing up with my bad habits. Another pad player like Denkai, funny and plays a respectable Brad.

notes:

-david lau like me doesn't own a ps3 so we both only get to play when we go to someone elses house. he's a cool dude and plays a funny lion.
-mattk is riverside player that plays with Plague often along with myself. He plays lau and has been improving alot.
-goatcheeseblues is THE socal sarah player as far as anything is concerned. I learned pretty much all of the base strats from him. He plays super solid and likes to keep people standing and guessing.

Notes:

-Alex is still lightyears ahead of me.... man I have problems with lei fei. He was also play vanessa and I think jacky in casuals. It was pretty cool seeing him beat denkai in the 10 on 10.
-Myke plays a REAL kage and man being in socal and having no dedicated kage player can really hurt. I think I had a lot of close ones with him but only one win vs. his Kage. I wish we had more, I actually wasn't really frustrated playing Kage this time around, just interested in playing more. Myke himself is the coolest DUDE ever. He was nice, insightful, and did justice to the countinent of austrailia.
-I hadn't seen Gerald (LA Akira) since EVO West and he had just come back from Japan. Man does he get better and better and FREAKING better. I learn alot from him and especially on ways to combat the terror that is Shun. Always a cool dude.
-I played only a handful of matches against Denkai but I was definately impressed. He plays a very aggressive Jacky, lots of iai canceling, step outs, and high angle kick set ups. Funny dude and real cool even with the trash talking. Yosuke coaching him was hilarious.

-I think I only played a casual match with Renzo yesterday but otherwise he still played his solid brad in the 10 on 10 and was pixels away from beating Myke. Me and him also drove to a mexican place before that to get some food, the lady doing our order mixed up chile verde burrito for shredded chicken burrito, we still took it but I was a bit ticked. btw Renzo gf is really nice and cool person, I loved the insane cheer we gave for her when she won her first round in the 10 on 10 with some crazy random pai stuff lol.
-Ken I. is the dirtiest lei fei player on the planet lol jk..... no I'm not. Man that character is a mind fuck. Ken I. gets major props for not only being an excellent lei fei player but also being a top WC Third Strike player, top WC GGXX:AC player, and god knows how many other games he plays. A cool person.

What awesome photos! Fuck. I'm tired. Ramble. YES! PARTY VF5! SoCal style! Last night saw the coolness of an akiralove/andy visit and a 5 vs 5 vs 5 team battle.

So, tonight's action will be a little different than usual, at least this late afternoon. We all all going to Lucille's Barbecue at Victoria Gardens. Everyone is invited to get in some fantastic BBQ for Myke's last evening in the US (he'll be leaving for LAX and Australia soon after dinner).

Take the 15 North past the 10 to Foothill West. The Victoria Gardens Mall is right off the 15 and Lucille's is on the East side of the mall next to the AMC movie theatre.

Be sure to join Myke, Yosuke, Itazan, Oioron, Renzokuken, Stephanie, GoatCheeseBlues, HowBoutSum, myself, and everyone else who wants to be there for some of the best BBQ around.

Yo, this is DancingFighterG. What up people. After sleeping and getting back into the routine I must say this trip to Socal was even better than Evo itself. I REALLY appriecate all the great times from everyone that came to the gathering. I learned so much about VF it was great. The community of Socal are a great group and definitly a great model for any community in the United States. Special thanks to plague for hosting. You and your wife are great. Man, what an incredible week. Huge thanks to everyone who made the trip out here and to all the SoCal players who were generous with their time, cars, and set-ups. Special thanks go to L_A_Akira, SillyWilly, and Matt_K - we couldn't have done this without you. Also, gigantic props to the out-of-town players that carted PS3s and sticks across the nation to make sure there were enough set-ups to go around. s_aki and Richard really delivered with their PS3s AND breakfast-for-all one day and dinner-for-all on another. It's this kind of dedication and generosity that makes these events worth every second.

I can't believe the turn-out...

10 v 11 team tournament on Monday - that's 21 players! Holy shit! I was thinking this event was gonna be on the small side. Apparently, thinking is not my strong suit.

The pictures in this thread blow my mind - this huge mass of VF talent - this group of top-notch individuals - all of you at my house. I am so honored you made the trip.

Finally, Version C looms on the horizon. Here's hoping for a PS3 patch/updated game disc and a bunch of new talent from the land of X360. Next year looks to be very bright, indeed. Online play should increase exposure across the world. Still, there's only one good way to avoid lag - go to someone's house, grab a controller, and play.

Oh, yeah...

In the year 2008, there will be this month named March. Think about making some travel plans to SoCal and make sure to keep an eye on VFDC come the beginning of the year. You never know what could happen - but you can bet it will involve VF.

 

Thank you Plague and Howboutsum. You guys are the epitome of awesomeness. I'm so grateful for the hospitality that you guys have shown to me and the rest of the VFers who have come your way.

It was nice to finally meet the rest of Socal, you guys were awesome too. I had a really great time, I hope I can return the favor when we do a gathering here in NYC. I hope to see you guys soon.
