...controller. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yep, the d-pad on the official 360 controller is rubbish [IMG]

You're in joystick land now my son...

I think the people that do play with pads here do not use the 360 pad. I think they use a Mad Catz pad of some type but I'm not positive.

Denkai = master pad player (if he's still using a pad)

Quite a few people use pad here Gernburgs, also last I heard Denkai uses an Hori pad. Not sure if he still does though.

IMO the D-Pad can be pretty accurate (at least more accurate than an analog stick) but it's so uncomfortable to use.

Do you know exactly what kind of pad he uses? I checked Hori's website and they only have fight sticks and standard gamepads.

    And what's Gernburg?

I started on D-pad but had too much trouble dashing or anything with a double directional command with a decent accuracy.

Switched to the stick but even that has some problems with registering OM DM, but can be worked on.

I saw some WCG vids last year and 2 people were using pad in the final, serious wtf-age. But it just depends on your play style.

any character with a requirement on QC or HC motions id recommend stick due to VF's thirst for speedy input times.

    How's the SFIV fight-pad?

That might work pretty well for VF...

I'm totally guessing cause I use a TE stick for fighting games and use the 360 pad for everything else...

(Everything else is Battlefield 1943 right now...)

    A Gernburg is me!

It's very possible to play on the regular 360 controllers as i always have and still do. With that said, even I'm making the switch to stick finally. But controller is possible. It just takes practice like with everything else.

For people who use the 360 controller, what button layout do you use? I'd like to hold off on getting a fight stick since I really don't have the money and VF5 is the only fighting game I have for 360.

You know I got my Hori EX2 for like 40-50 bucks on buy.com. It isn't the greatest stick of all time but, it gets the job done.

i use the 360 controller (although its a usb-cable one not wireless) and i can pull off most moves in this game. I'm not an akira player though so im not that great but i can easily pull off any move with my main, brad, as well as jacky and goh.

its really not that hard, even 334 K of brads and Goh's shoulder ram arent that hard.
    just practice

    i used pad exclusively.

denkai and cidkid are both preferred pad players, as i've heard, but either can play the stick absurdly well too, i'm sure.

standard button lay out. i think the one frame knee is bout the only thing i doubt i could get to 90% accuracy on with a pad. practice makes perfect.

I like to take an exacto knife when i get a new controller and shave back that stupid plastic wall around the pad, to give you more room to slide it in all directions. Just test your controller out pretty well before doing it, they have been known to come out of the box defective. a direction that doesn't register, a button that doens't always input. play player matches for a few days to make sure you are happy that your controller functions before you go carving it up.

safety note: shave/carve/cut away from your body. don't want the blade coming loose and stabbing you in the eye.

Is there a guide on how to do that (one with pictures)?

i actually have found that, with practice, i'm able to just use the analog stick respectfully fine. i main wolf and lau, though, and there's very little in their movesets that would cause too much problem...although, there are like one move in each of their movesets which i've determined are impossible to do with the analog stick...so take that for what you will. i'm starting to pick up goh, and haven't been having too much trouble with him, either. it might just depend on your choice of main if the pad/analog will work out ok for you.

I didn't know you played on a pad? Heh, learn something new everyday. Look man, it's really all based on preference. Find out what makes things easiest for YOU, and then go from there. You're not going to come out double palming and SPODing out the gates, but with a bit of practice you'll be able to play anyone you want to with great execution. It is possible, so just keep at it. And sometimes you just have to make exceptions. I couldn't dbplm on both sides, so I would do DLC on the left for combos and dbplm on the right for combos to make it easy for myself. About the same amount of damage, so it worked out. The only other button I had outside of default was my A button for throws.

I'm terrible with the 360 pad, even if I use the analog stick. My thumb slides off and hits the "back" button. [IMG]

Re: Some moves are hard to pull off with the 360 c

I am okay with pad, being a pad player I am used to it. For all the harder moves like Vanessa or Aoi's 270 throw I use the stick for those to avoid the random goof ups that come when I do them on a pad even though I can do them on a pad just fine most of the time just fine. The inaccuracies of the controller are things I adapted to as well even though they will affect me sometimes but not as much as before.

It isn't that bad really but some people just play better with pad naturally better than others.

I am strictly pad as well; I have tried numerous pads from the official X360 Pad and the 3rd party Madcatz, Hori and are all subpar due to the weak ass d-pad, even the StreetFighter pad is not that great. The best controller that I found is the Saitek PP35 P3200 Rumble Pad and Saitek PP34 Cyborg Rumble Pad. The d-pad has a full 360 movement. The only downfall to the pad is the analog and triggers are not as good as the original controller; but if you want a solid controller with a good d-pad and good face buttons this is the one to get.
