Some Shun queries

    I'll make this short:

I've recently been using -[P]+[G] in HS- with a decent degree of success. The problem is, this is against lower tier AI in EVO so I have no experience against real players with it.

My query is this, does it work?

    [P]+[K], [K], [P]+[K]+[G], [P]+[G] (from HS)

My (rather questionable) theory for the above is that after changing to HS, your opponent either blocks or attempts a high attack (possible charge) [P]+[G] executes and the throw is made.

These are just some various ideas that I may put into use, but I still need some confirmation.

Help is appreciated and thanked in advance.

I rather think not.. I haven't played Shun or against Shun much in EVO, but I doubt that particular strategy has changed much.. and in VF4, this was death.. the throw starts up slowly enough that it can be ducked on reaction, and then IIRC you eat a free back throw if your opponent's awake. Maybe if you could condition your opponent to expect more handstand kicks it could work, and it can definitely catch people sleeping from time to time, but I would say the risk is definitely not worth the reward. Shun's other catch throw, the one from DS, is a little better because it even sorta looks like the regular DS kick, and it's quicker.

That said, I'm NOT a Shun player, so perhaps someone else can guide you better on properly using the HS throw.. I'm sure it's good for something, just not sure what.

Er... append that.. I HAVE gotten caught with it in okizeme situations after getting knocked down by a handstand kick, so perhaps that's what it's for.

yeah it works everyonce in ahwhile because people are scared of handstand kicks. just make sure your really cose to the oppenent so they either hit you out of the air or it grabs them.

You'll get slaughtered mid-tear and up. The best time to get in the handstand, without actually going to the handstand, after [3][P][P][K]. The crappy part is, you'll either hit the kick, and stagger the opponent out of range. Or, your opponent will block the kick, and destroy you (sweep, and guaranteed pounce... painful).

The hand stand is icing. The only time I've found where the opponent truly has to guess to attack or block, is when you've knocked them down w/ the above combo, and they're rising.

Thanks for the advice. I've been experimenting and it been going pretty well, it's not a great attack but it has the deceptive value. Still, I think i'm sticking with...

    [4]+[K]+[G], [2]+[K]+[P]+[G], [6]+[K] /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This move was written about in DrunkenCat's FAQ (which is great) and it works a charm.

[P]+[G] is an absolute AI killer in EVO for shun. In fact its the only move you'll need agaisnt Standard AI (Not to be taken litterally)... The AI falls for it 80-90% of the time, no joke. Against actual people its close to useless, excluding the fact its a catch grab.
