SC has been my #2 fightin' game since SC3 but if this is SC5 it'll be my #1 since I don't even play VF anymore.

Just give me a competent Zas and I'm good. Granted I've always got Astaroth.

So if SC is your second game and you dont play VF anymore...you dont have a #1 fighter?

EDIT: I guess maybe you wanted to say that SC would be your #1 fighter if it had good online, good balance and no cheap ringouts/playable bosses...in short, if it was more like VF (which you dont play anymore)?

VF has been my #1 since I was 7... unforetunately the spot is vacant because I've lost interest in Virtua Fighter due to Sega of Japan not givin' a shit about anybody outside of Japan (and recently China). So whatever is better between KOF13 and SC5 will take the top spot. If VF5FS comes out it'll reclaim its throne but it's not lookin' that way. Oh and I liked the online in SC4... you prolly just sucked balls.

You liked? In the past tense? It could be you got bored of SC4 as you got bored of VF5, nothing more nothing less.

edit: I suck balls on SC, but reading the forum at 8wayrun it seemed to me the consesus was that online was not that good, nor was on TK6, or on KoF12 or any SNK game (I have MOTW and KOF12 and they are not at the level of VF5).

SC5 would be great if Namco decides to focus of the core fighting and online aspects, not on single player/create a character.

    Edit: http://www.8wayrun.com/threads/online-play-facts-and-basics.5692/

This seems to me an example of the general opinion on SC4 online. If Namco wants to do better, they have to listen to the fans and sort out online mode. (Also because they have so many new games coming out and its about time they get it right).

Is it to much to want Bullshido Blade 1 redone for current consoles?

I must say the Soul Calibur 4 netcode was about as palatable as a vagina with stage 3 gonorrhea that's been dead for 3 days baking in the Sahara desert.

That sounds about right. Glad someone finally put it into words.

Namco has had the best fighting games (next to VF) this gen, but none of them have had workable netcode, period.

I'd be happy with SF4 netcode even right now.

I'm glad. 4 was close to being really great for me, but I still enjoyed it. SC gets a lot of hate I think, it's raw fun and does have a lot of thinking/reaction skills required to play it.

Oh please no. I'd have to buy a console again for that. [IMG]

SC gets crapped on because shit accumulates, and seeing as it is already a pile.

SCII, with all of it's problems (2G, bad balance, and abuse-able 8-way run to name a few) was the best, because at least your character had hundreds of attacks available. Mina was worth playing too...

SCIII, was shit no matter how much they "fixed" it in AE.

SCIV: "Let's take already considerably shorter movelists and take out more!"

The problem with III and IV (aside from no arcade) was also the amount of effort that was put into character customization, and stupid single player modes (remember that "rpg" in III, wtf?!), compared to the actually important aspect of the game.

Alas, 5, or whatever is going next is going to suck as a fighting game, but will generate lots of cash from dumbass weeboos and their love of terrible character design.

Ive played SC4 online and I can say it is just about as bad lagwise as Tekken6 online.

SC5 needs to be at its core a fighting game again, they got away from that too much with 3 and 4. 2 does not age well, but 2 with SC1 Guard Impacts, SC4 critical finish and no step-G would work I believe.

(and yes. critical finish was a good mechanic, if only because it gave another route of offense, or could set up your standard offense, people took more risks when they were in danger of CF.)

IMO, Namco sometimes is as stupid or greedy as Sega is.

Namco had a winning ticket in their hands: Soul Calibur XBLA online, and threw it away. You can bitch and moan about sega all day long, but SC1 online would have been the greatest thing ever, and Namco pissed it all away. They have not been able to replicate the greatness of SC1 and did not want to detract from the sales of SC4 by offering a superior game for less money.

Fighting games are probably the most challenging games to make. Its a tough market, and Sega has got the standard bearer game for the competition to beat. Lets see a DOA5 with more defensive options, lets see a Tekken 6 with a more intellegible system/better training mode, lets see a SC5 with balance and online that does not break the game. all these things were achieved by sega and maybe capcom and AS, now its time for namco/tecmo to join the party.

Oh and BTW, I like SC4 and I LIKE KOF12, but I dont play them online. I play SC4 on my own mostly to practice taki combos and KOF12 Vs AI. and practice MOTW combos and 3S, offline. I have no interest in playing games online when the lag makes them unplayable to the point that throws/lows mixup is considered cheap. for all its faults, VF5 does not require self-imposed restraint to be enjoyable, even kage/wolf dmpk spam is merely annoying, rather than game breaking.

I get the impression from listening to Harada that Namco are really listening to everything the fans are saying. He's mentioned a number of issues that have been brought up on forums like TZ and answers questions on twitter. I expect the message about SC1 and 2 being the best games in the series would certainly have gotten through. 1 of the things which made them better though was that the console versions were upgrades over the arcade versions which themselves were beta tested by the public.

Any chance of SC getting back into the arcades first?
