You're so nice and quiet when you're BANNED.

Nice job trying to use a homosexual slur - you just hit a personal pet peeve of mine. Not a smart move, Mr. "Doesn't resort to petty name calling."

Oh common, I dont mind him being banned but doing it becouse he called someone queer while empnova was the one being provoked is imo not fair.

If I remember correctly it was gaijin punch whop said that and not empnova himself.
Again if ya wanna ban him do so but you shouldnt do it over a provoked attack.

    Agreed --

And yes, Fishie, I was the one that said that. It was true...for that thread at least, but I was quickly referred to some other threads that weren't the case.

    Zero:
There's much worse name calling than queer (even to denote a homosexual), and as stated before, he was provoked. Does it make it right? Nope, but is a bit more understandable.

And just for the record, if someone called me pookie, I would be a bit suspicious of their motives. I got sick of being the "conversion guinea pig" for most of my college career.

Don't tell me you guys don't think Empnova has ALREADY provided enough reasons to be kicked out of this forum... Who cares about the specific incident that put people over the top... It's like saying a serial killer who finally got caught because he was robbing a store should only be tried for robbery... (Yeah it's a bit of an extreme example, but it'll do)

    I'm glad he's gone..

Yes he has and he should stay banned, he just gave another example of why he should be banned and remain banned by changing his sig and dissing Zero in it.
The way this ban came to be was wrong tough and as a mod Zero should have known that.

I think Fishie is referring to the signature:

Go to the "search" of VFDC, and search for the word "gay," and you will find several posts of Zero-Chan bashing gays, good day.

which is hardly a "diss" IMO. If there's another version, then I'd like to see it too.

In any case, I agree that the ban over calling someone queer was a little extreme so he's unbanned.

    Way to go Myke.

Honestly, I hope that empnova’s temporary ban has given him and ‘the rest’ some time to cool off…

While I am not exactly in favour of empnova’s overly-enthusiastic postings but neither do I see any grounds to diss him or flame him on every thread he posted. Or maybe just because it’s catwich, everyone is eager to get a free bite?

Guys, let bygones be bygones, afterall we are all a part of VFDC.

    Cheers.

    Re: Shadowqueer

I think many of us would love to lay off on him. Nevertheless, empnova always finds a way to piss someone off after people settled down with a flame thread. The only way to stop this is not for everyone else to stop flaming... It's not a one sided issue, why blame those who voice their dislike of empnova? If he would give things a rest, I'm sure everyone would stop flaming him. Most of us don't just post aggressive posts just for the hell of it, there is always a catalyst somewhere, and his response to things, although diplomatic, causes even more anger to those he responds to.

While I agree some of us had gone too far in giving him a hard time, something must be done so he can understand why people think of him the way they do. I hope he learns a lesson from the ban, and please don't defend him by saying he doesn't deserve a ban. Because that will only make him think that people are on his side and that will only empower him.

    just my take on things..

You know, I just kinda laughed at this all...there is so much worse stuff going on at this board...a little joshing around (no pun intended), is acceptable. I talked with Emp on IRC...Glad to read that he is unbanned.

    yikes

Worse stuff, huh? Geez, it's like a soap opera around here, and i've been missing it.

Well, i've never been so happy to be completely oblivous (maybe because i haven't yet gone on IRC). That said, all this bickering is really beneath us VF fans. It is kinda off-putting... i mean, this Emp guy managed to throw up next to 500 posts in just over a month... most of which are flam-ey exchanges with other folks. I don't know if i support a ban, but i might if all this crap keeps up. If he could maybe show a little respect and be willing to say he "doesn't know" when he doesn't, i think we could all learn to deal with him. I know i've been guilty of talking out of my ass on occasion... heh...

Not that anyone gives a damn what i think. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

    Re: yikes

Actually you hit it right on the spot. It's not that people randomly picked a person and target him for flames, it's been that way because he did something to provoke people and at the same time being defensive about things he make up when others point out his mistakes. People don't want him banned for making posts about stuff he made up, people want him banned because he can't accept being wrong and he can't converse or exchange ideas in a mature manner. All the flames about him shouldn't be considered childish or inappropriate, they are simply a result of repeated failure at communicating to empnova. It seems like talking to him with flames is the only way for him to understand anything. Without his posts, none of this would have occured. So it's very easy to see who is to blame here.

    NURRRRR

This thread is limping its way to a much-needed close.
Forgive me if I soapbox a bit before closing it.

Keeping VFDC spam-free is an individual effort. People would like to claim that emp's spreading deadly misinformation, but a number of the posts are harmless (for example posting about ign media, which happened to have content I wanted to see and wasn't aware of). Other posts are blown out of proportion. Granted, the guy NEVER seems to admit when he's wrong, on the other hand the world isn't going to end if people don't resolve the issue about minami's win percentage being 82 vs 93%.

For every questionable and defensive post that's been made, I can point to kneejerk reactions from VFDC regulars - for example sanjuro's classic "FUCK EMPNOVA IN THE ASS WITH A STIC_" (which he later apologized for).

I'm kind of tired of seeing VFDC do the Lord of the Flies routine on a guy just for posting a lot and for arguing with conventional wisdom. Everyone jumped on replicant's ass for posting a lot, but now that there's a new spermrag-of-the-week, he goes completely unmentioned. I remember personally arguing with IMF for several posts because he made the bold assertion that akira's low kick cancel being removed wasn't a big deal. IMF is a perfectly competent akira player whether I agreed with him or not, and in retrospect it doesn't seem to matter for shit whether he was right or wrong.

The point is that everyone's posted something incoherent, defensive, immature, or just plain wrong before. Everyone has also posted something that was correct only to have it called into question. It's a problem, but not a big one compared to these lengthy threads filled with namecalling and accusations and spam. These threads aren't created singlehandedly. When you click reply, are you replying for the benefit of the person you're addressing, with an eye towards improving their behavior and making VFDC a better place? Or are you replying for your own benefit, to reassert your point just for the warm fuzzy feeling of being right, or for the warm fuzzy feeling of dissing someone in front of the gallery?

I'll shut up now. I'm not playing favorites here - I DO think empnova makes a lot of posts that shouldn't have been made, and I know he's wrong on some of the claims he's made. But if anyone wishes to point out someone else's errors, there's nothing wrong with doing it in one well-written, coherent post. Fill that post with valid points that support what you're saying. You can think of it as two barrels of dumbass-killing buckshot. Once you've fired off your two barrels, you're out of ammo and you might as well stop trying to kill your target by slinging mud at its corpse.

I guess I should leave this open for a bit to see if anyone wants to reply. I suspect most of you nodded off by now :p
