a friend of mine does not want to get his ps2 modded, but rather do the gameshark assaulting your ps2 method...can somebody post the correct method for this process?

Doing the knife swap isn't bad. You need to prepare a little first.
Once you get the hang of it, it's fast and easy and not nearly as bad as it sounds. Basically the worst that can happen is you freak out and break the thingy that helps your PS2 trade slide in and out automatically... in which case you will just have to pull it out by hand. If anyone actually does this, they probably don't have the hand/eye coordination to be playing VF in the first place :p

    PREPARATION:
-Turn on the PS2 and hit the eject button.
-Turn the PS2 off while the CD tray is still out.
-Unplug the PS2 from the wall.
-On the front of the tray is the CD 'faceplate'. It's a cheap plastic barrier that snaps onto the front of the tray using two little plastic hooks. The hooks are located on the SIDES of the tray. Carefully slide the faceplate off and try to do it without breaking the little plastic hooks. If you do break them, it's no big deal (I did). The faceplate may be glued onto the front of the tray with a little dab of glue in the middle. It may help to have the PS2 upside down when you try to remove the faceplate.
-Plug your PS2 back in, turn it back on.

    THE SWAP:
-Make sure your PS2 is on.
-Put your gameshark (version 1.9 or higher) into the CD tray.
-Push in the tray and let the gameshark boot up normally.
-When you get to the main menu, pick "start game"
    -Next pick "without codes"
-It will tell you to put in your game disc and press X. DON'T PRESS X YET.
You're not going to push anything, go on to the next steps.
    -Now comes the tricky part.

1.Get your knife or small plastic swap tool (anything thin and fairly rigid will work, make sure it's nothing sharp. I used the edge of a butter knife (not the cutting edge, the opposite edge).

    2. There's a small gap under the BOTTOM of the CD tray. Insert your swap tool here. Insert it at the center of the tray and push it in about 2 inches deep. The tray will naturally lift upwards a little bit when you slide in the knife, which makes it easier to do the next step.

    3. Shine a flashlight into the small crack below the CD tray. Locate the WHITE LOCKING PIN. It's a small white plastic pin about halfway between your knife and the RIGHT-HAND edge of the CD tray. It's the only white thing in there, so you should be able to spot it. If you have trouble, don't be afraid to use your knife to lift the CD tray up a little. Having the flashlight is important here.

    4. Slide the knife SLOWLY and CAREFULLY to the right until it's pushing against the white pin. You're going to use the knife to push the white pin allll the way to the right of the CD Tray. Take it slow. Feeling some resistance is normal, but it should move. Don't stress out here. Even breaking it won't ruin your PS2, you'd just have to push the tray in manually. But you're not gonna break it as long as you slide it along slowly and carefully.
Keep pushing with the knife until the white pin doesn't move any further and the CD tray pops out a tiny bit. You won't hear or feel anything, the tray will just pop out a hair.

    5. You can now pull out the CD tray without pushing the blue button - you're about to swap discs without your PS2 knowing it. Just pull sloooowly on the little tabs in front of the CD tray, and it should slide out. If it doesn't, you may need to move the white locking pin further to the right. Don't force anything! Also it's normal that there's a -little- resistance pulling the CD tray out. But if you have to strain to do it, the pin probably needs to be moved more.

    6. Once the tray is open fully, take out the gameshark disc and put in the VF4 backup CD
Push the CD tray back in SLOWLY and CAREFULLY, as usual.

    7. This is the only tricky part for me. You must now move that little locking pin back into place. Reinsert your knife/swap tool so that you can push the white pin to the LEFT now. You will need to insert your knife at an angle to be able to catch the right edge of the white pin. Once you can start moving it, slide it sloooowly and carefully back to the left until it can't go any further. You may feel a little 'click!' as it moves back into place. If you can't move it any further left, you're probably good to go onto the next step.

    8. Push X on your controller. Gameshark will now search for a CD. If the white locking pin's in the correct place, it'll find your backup VF4 disc and load it up normally.
    Congrats, you're done.

Troubleshooting: the only trouble I had is when I used an older gameshark. When I moved the locking pin, it made a nasty grinding noise. If you get this... STOP. Go buy a newer gameshark! Then try again.

PS: I know that GS version 1.9 works, but I've heard that really new gamesharks will also keep the disc spinning and make swapping difficult. I've also heard one guy say he makes the swap even while it's spinning because he just doesn't give a fuck, but I recommend against that. There's a different, harder swap method that will work on newer PS2s/gamesharks, you may need to do it if your PS2 is pretty new. You can find it via a VFDC search for PS2 swap probably.

It's easier to just unscrew the top case... and then unscrew the four little screws that's holding the lid to the cd drive. So when you want to swap.. just take the top off. and take off the lid to the cd drive. Yay!

Shrug, general forum is a catchall for junk that isn't really VF related. PS2 modding methods isn't VF related. So this forum is fine. I think I'll move your post though... to the SICK PERVERTED AVATARS BOARD!!!!@#!!!!!!@!!!@!!@

For me, Console forum is for all things hardware-related. It'd be nice to have a modding thread there, it's useful information for people that eg. would like to play VF imports (well, maybe not NOW, since all the local Evo versions came out); that was my point. Someone competent should make such thread, talking about modchips, fliptops etc., providing links and advice. /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Too bad I'm rather incompetent in this area.

P.S. My avatar isn't in any way perverted... apparently your mind makes it perverted for you. She's underage you know... bad CreeD!
