I dont know whether or not this was discussed as I am pretty new to the forums. I was just wondering which do you guys prefer. Also wanted to ask for those who use stick but originally started using controller, was it hard at all to transition? Any tips on how to make this transition easier?

Right now I am starting to use the stick, because Auvii is forcing me to. And its a lot different from using the controller, my timing is off and certain moves are hard to pull off because my hand isnt used to the stick. Sidestepping is a lot harder because it feels like the timing is different, I dont know if my thumb is faster then my whole hand or something.

i'm also new to the stick ...
actully it was a gift from a friend, im 27 years old controller player & there isn't any arcades in my town so all i gotta do is practice the moves right & about the timing u can do it in the:
practice menu >> CPU options (i guess) >> in the nuteral guard section try making the COM hit u after he blocks ur hit ..
when u done go to the arcade and play aginst the COM u will be starting to get used to it during the fight >>>> thats what im doing right now & in about 4 days i made alot of progress ...
try harder cause ur friend is right there is many tricks & skills u can pull it easier with the stick ...

I tried using an arcade stick before and its just not for me. I love the D-Pad, although I wish the 360's pad was much better than it is now. Because of its low performance I often switch to the stick on the controller for more complex movements.

Where do you guys get these sticks anyway? I never see any in stores.

Either order them or go to a special shop in your area. Its usually like that a few months after the game comes out.

I'm controller all the way. Using a stick just feels odd to me.

...and so would a controller if you'd barely used one before.

Seriously, I know for a fact that playing VF on a pad limits what you can do. There are moves/combos that are practically impossible on a pad, even if you could pull them off once in a blue moon it's not enough to be able to rely on them in a match.

VF is meant to be played with a stick, the worlds best players use stick. seriously just give stick a try and dont give up after the first two hours just because you still can perform better with a pad
I promise that after a while you never want to touch the pad again

I hate pads cause my fingers are faster BUT the percise controls with the stick at arcades is unbeaten to me I haven't tried the stick at home because I'm an agressive gamer and I can't imagine that thing being stable enough while I getting into a fight I'd jerk it on the floor trying to back dash in time so I use the controller BUT for more advanced moves I switch to analog stick on the fly.. i.e for my forward, back , left and right movements I use d-pd but all my circular motions or quarter circle, even half circle it's analog sometimes I'll even do diagnals with the analog. when using LAU and his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif combo I start /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif with analog and after the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif's I use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif on the d-pad!!

While thats true, it also depends on what character you're using. Since I almost always use striking characters because they appeal to me so much I'm not gonna really have to worry about any half or full circular moves. I can't imagine being a D-Pad only if I used grapplers like Wolf or Goh.

No matter who you are using the stick is an advantage purely because it increases your input speed... If you're consistently executing your moves, even a frame quicker, it's an advantage.

I started with a controller then switched to the stick. For me personally, the transition was a lil ruff. I remember the first few days with it saying to myself "man i'm alot better with a controller" cause that's what I learned with and having the whole one button for P+G+K etc..But I stuck with it and now couldn't see myself going back to the cntrlr, i'm much better with the stick now vs the controller.. It is funny trying to hit a direction n two buttons together or all three etc. at first for certain moves since you're not used to where they are at exactly to hit em by reflex lol. Just hang in there bro..But to this day I still feel I can evade better with a cntrlr since all it takes is the flick of a thumb, like you say the timing just feels diff or I think I did it and my guy just stands there lol, but it's just something that comes with exp/time of using the stick

Even for Akria I wouldn't say it's practically impossible. I use a pad but even so I would recommend first time players to use a stick (its always good to have stick skills who knows you might be in japan one day). But for those comfortable using a pad let it be known that its all personal preference nothing is impossible on a pad in this game with practice

Denkai speaks the truth. In VF4:Evo days, a local Riverside player (castle) hit every Akira combo with a pad - stuff like: SPoD, DLC, Yoho->P->KNEE->Dblpm, 46P->P->Dblpm, 42P+G->Sglpm->Dblpm. All buffered perfectly. He was good at the game, too.
