1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. i created this topic because id like to know more about him as i started playing VF seriously when VF5 was released. i heard he was in a previous VF game and wondered why he was removed, then brought back for VF5r?

feel free to comment on anything about him as id like to know his story and relation to the game. how effective/tier wise. if vf5r gets a console release i honestly think id make a point of learning him.

who does he play closest to in relation to the newer vf games etc.

Taka was in VF3, but was left out of VF4 because they couldn't make him work properly, being so large. He is in VF5R because they managed for the characters to have a different animation when they throw him, etc.

I'd say Taka is closest to a hybrid of Jeffry with Goh's Tsukami. Taka is all about power.

Yeah, I've read in an interview that Taka Arashi was too hard to integrate into the game (VF4, EVO, FT and 5) because of his very large stature.
When they tried animating him, his moves and everything else, whilst trying to get other characters moves to work realistically against him, they just couldn't do it so they scrapped him. Something about the hits and throws looking too unrealistic...
That's what I've read, so I could be wrong here

As for a character backstory and what not, here's a brief synopsis on his story, scabbed off wikipedia:
    Taka-Arashi
Taka-Arashi (鷹嵐, Takaarashi?) is a sumo wrestler from Japan. His first appearance was in Virtua Fighter 3, and his fighting technique is sumo. He did not make any further appearances in the Virtua Fighter series because he was deemed too difficult to integrate at the time.[citation needed] He bears the distinction of being the only character in the series ever to be retired, at least for a few games.

In the Sumo world, Taka-Arashi is famous for his unusually brutal version of the fighting style. One day, while entertaining at an American bar, Taka-Arashi agreed to settle an argument in an underground fist fight. Taka-Arashi fiercely bested his opponent, a man famous in the world of underground fighting. Upon his return to Japan, Taka-Arashi informed his boss of his decision to leave Sumo wrestling. On that same day, Taka-Arashi received an invitation to the 3rd World Fighting Tournament, and, with blood still boiling with the thrill of battle, decided to enter.

Taka-Arashi has been recently added to the roster of Virtua Fighter 5 R. This will be his second appearance since Virtua Fighter 3. His stage is a larger-than-expected dohyo, with a large audience.

As far as how effective Taka is Tier-wise goes, do a search for it, I'm sure you'll find something in these forums here /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
    Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure they said it was down to the hitboxes and collision detection, no idea what the difficulties where but large characters in fighting games weren't really common in fighting games till a good few years after VF3.

Oh and of course, they screwed the hitboxes up in VF5 anyways so adding him back in probably made sense /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

The way I see things in the tier list, it seems like he's a fuck up anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if he can't be spotted in the VF6 Roster lol.
