This just made me think of how sometimes (and I'm sure many people have done this at least a few times) I'll be on the phone, or have some food in one hand, and instead of making the opponent wait while my character just stands there I will play one handed, meaning just using buttons instead of the joystick. It's amazing that I will actually pull off wins once and awhile. It makes me wonder which character is the best at just using buttons. [IMG]

Alright before you guys get all high on yourselves for playing while distracted ... nobody is that serious online. [IMG]

Hell, often times I mostly play just to relax while I'm enjoying wine or beer. Just saying it's a common occurrence that people may have other things going on besides online VF.

Dude nobody is getting high off of anything much less vf lol!!. We just stating how its funny that some don't notice. The problem is no one take it serious period as a cop out to why they are not getting better. I still don't get it why people always have a built in excuse to why they lose online or at all SMH!!!

I'm going to address this point you bring up about "excuses". It's called priorities. If someone wants to use that as an excuse then so be it, but one does not equal the other ... You need to put things in perspective.

"But Jerky, I sell drugs to the community!"*: good for you. It's a great training tool and there are some great connections and matches to be had at times, but don't get ahead of yourself. Some guys I know are shitty tournament players, but can mop you 45 straight in a blink of an eye while others have nerves of steel and their guessing game reaches a whole new level when elimination/money is on the line, but for the life of them can't find a rhythm during casual play.

    It's not that serious. [IMG]

Man I have a serious axe to grind with the online era players who give two shits. VF5's netcode is not even remotely good enough to pass summary judgement on someone's level of play. This always comes up and it becomes too polarizing to even discuss, cause no offline gatherings have happened in literally years. If you have something to prove, prove it offline or STFU.

Playing to learn or playing to win... I take online seriously. I'm not there to burn my time (or yours). Not enough time in life for that. You see me online playing VF? I'm serious and I want to play. I don't drink alcohol or talk on the phone or eat or have sex while playing VF. Feel free to bring the fighting action. That's why I am here.

I understand that too. I'm also not sure why anyone ought to care when another player says "oh I ran up a streak of X wins on someone online while eating spare ribs and my kid is throwing shit at the TV". It's a great training tool to a point, but using online play to measure yourself and others becomes futile even without distractions. It's just too inconsistent.

Whenever I play the game, I try to bring the ruckus, but sometimes distractions do come into play. But it still doesn't matter, because I'm not going to judge my opponent online. As a matter of fact, I'm not going to judge my opponent offline anymore, either.

Also I find it super annoying when people bring up the kind of streaks they've reached on people. I don't publically do that nonsense. I SMH everytime I read something like that in ggs thread.

Everyone comes from different backgrounds and have different things on their plate, in their lives. In any kind of activity, everyone has the ability to become good or great at it, but "it" depends on how much of themselves they have, to put into it. Sometimes they don't have that much to give to it and their skills in it suffer.

Most players that are still dedicated to the game got some scary shit to bring to the table, and you'd be a fool to dismiss that even if it's just online.

I don't know if I really answered the topic question. I guess to answer it is take online just as serious as I take offline play. How serious is that? Hell if I know, look at the way and how I play and tell me what you think.

I still say if I beat someone 50 out of 60 games. That's pretty consistent to me. Do I brag about it? Nope, frankly I could give a shite less about casual play in general online or offline. I still want my opponent to try their best to play because that's what I'm there for, to play. If you get your panties in a bunch because you feel your were cheated its your fault, not mine. Don't play online. From what I've seen, good players, play well both online and offline in most games I've played.

Who cares how people feel in relation to you skill wise anyway. Nothing is on the line, you don't lose anything. If you feel besmirched than that's your mental weakness.

In General why waste your time even playing the game? Is there a healthy active VF scene in your part of town? I highly doubt it. Some of you guys kill me always talking this not taking online seriously bullshit. Playing online made me better and whateva i can do online i already know i can do it offline even better. Im seriously i don't know what some of you guys take people as when it comes to video games but its there to have fun with. If you pull off a 50 game win streak on somebody that shit is still amazing online or offline. With all due respect EMX You definitly need to step your shit up before you say anything wrong about playing online or off. I am very grateful sega gave me the option to play against people in other states and still have fun online. I have kids running around being active in the house and i still gets my reps in. Never do i bring up a streak cause i don't care about it. I prefer back and forth games where we are both learning something online or off.

lag or not I actually take online seriously. As flawed as it is, it's still a great learning tool. Now that FS is on the way I take it even more seriously than I ever have before.

I take online way more seriously than offline. When I play offline its just hanging out with some friends, playing casual matches or showing each other stuff in the game. When I play online (because no one talks EVAR) it feels like "This motherfucker thinks he's better than me? I'll show him!".

Wrong attitude to have online, I know. I've worked really really really hard to gain respect in the VF community and I wanted that respect to come from my playstyle, not from clever speeches I made on the forums. So I take online a lot more seriously than I should.

Now that I've said this out loud and come to terms with it, maybe I can stop. I guess most people playing VF online aren't really playing to prove anything. I shouldn't either.

Threads like this are helpful! Honesty IS the best policy!

I refuse to take online seriously. Eileen has a lot of timing based stuff and online forces me to play in a way that isn't strong offline. As i'd rather be good at the latter than the former, that's where my focus has to lie.

Since i feel online play actively harms my offline game i try on to apply too much focus to it. The more lag there is, the less effort i'll put it. Thats not to say i won't be trying to win. It's still a good tool for my improvement. I just won't care or be particularly excited by the results.
