Well for starters, I wouldn't mind if the trailer was in higher resolution... Heh, the most distinguishable feature seems to be the new aaaaweeeessooooomeeeeeee hit special effect. "Whenever you strike a blow, a galaxy dies!". Meh.

The new lady is ok (I like freaky way of moving), but the new male character... Wow, that must be the prettiest boy in a 3d fighting game... Soooo cuuuute... Aaah, Leo, I wanna play you so much! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif

Character movement and strike effects are just Tekken-like - clumsy and kinda sluggish. But that's just the T's way, so I guess that's going to stay. Music - just some standard techno, meh. Arenas are quite nice, actually - but I still prefer an actual "arena", like in vf, than even the prettiest battlefield. I guess I'm just a fan of realism here, heh.

That said, I'd still like to play it a bit - especially if Namco will finally fix the unbalance-ness, the worst thing about the series. And what do you guys think?

Leo looks like he's using bajiquan, no?

1:28- Same elbow strike as Akira's and Kokoro's Bajiquan. But then again, Julia also uses same elbow strikes but her style isn't baji.

Another thing that gives me the doubts that it isn't baji, is the open hand attacks that leo uses. So, i'm curious about this character...even though "his" voice sounds like a girl.

Well, ether way, the graphics still look the same as the last trailer (the one with lili and jin), but it has now more masive shades and more animation to each character. Not bad, I hope this game at least gets online. I don't want the DOA and MK series be the only games to have online.

 

Don't know, his strikes seem to be much more circular than what I'm used to believe is Bajiquan (that's some pretty wild swipes there). Besides, such a type of an elbow strike seems to be pretty widespread - and so far I haven't seen him doing any shoulder rams (luckily), so it's hard to tell. What I'm sure is how I really don't like how the camera foruses of his lower body half during most of the closeups. Bleh.

Besides, wouldn't it be strange if three characters from three leading fighting games would have Baji? I don't think it's some wide-spread style, really... Even though Akira is a kung fu instructor /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif . I guess the incredibly manly newcomer is using just some "other kung fu"...

Whether it gets online or not, Namco, just this once make it BALANCED... I'm sick of getting repeatedly swamped just because I like some character (Lei) or called a beard just because I like another (Feng). It's tiresome either way.

It's Baji-based. But like you said, it's very weird.
Incidentally, Julia's style is Baji, too. And while you're at it, so are the styles of about five other Tekken characters. You'll find Baji in every major fighting game pretty much directly because of Akira.
As for the graphics, they're shit.

I've got to give it to them - the snaky-moving woman looks cool. But THAT was an insult.

About his... style... looking weird... Don't bother. That's Tekken, it thrives on weirdness in all aspects. Meh.

If you're still required to Ice-skate for movement, then I'm not even going to bother, and the music... sounds like that annoying club music shit my dumbass room mate listens to 24/7.

If only the controls were as intuitive as VF's. Maybe a fucking block button, a better throw game, balance, something new to the series (What did Tekken 5 do? Oh wait, not be Tekken 4).

I just think, that VF is a really high level fighter, so people expect more from its continuations, than from a game that just is, and that's all.
If Tekken is mediocore, than if it's not the best looking, the most balanced game on the market, than okay. But if VF5 was totally unbalanced people would give SEGA a really hard time about it.

It's also because of the community. We say: "Look, the next has some new tactics, and advanced moves to widen the choices of both defense and offense! There are two new characters, and they are great to play with."
While Tekken players say: " Look, now I can do instant death combos with my Kazuya, and the throws are even more useless than before! Cool! Look! Kuma and Panda have a kid, and it's teaching Jun's grandson a kung fu style that it created by mixing the knowledge gained from Wang and Roger! Cool.!"

But I still believe after T6 comes out it will sway a great deal of new VF5 converts back to the land of stone gel hair, kangaroos and 90% breaking combinations. Just like when T4 came out, now pretty much everyone (Tekken fans too) agreed it's crap, but back in the days nobody noticed, it was just like "They've toned down my Hwory... but OMG Jin's so cool I can kill anyone with three comboszzzor!!1". Zafira looks like utter shit to me. I can't believe they did this after Lily, they really like those deepstance ladies chuckling it away over at Namco. Leo is so bland it's incredible. It really is.

 

Heh, I sure hope many people will play VF for Sega's good. But even Namco must know how much Tekken's system sucks, seeing as they gave a stlightly modified VF's system to their next big game, the Soul Edge. It's just that people got used to it and play it, just like they're still eating at McDonald's even though they're selling trash. Tekken wins the public by flashiness, not by its in-depth value. I know I may sound like an utter fanboy - sure I don't work for Sega, and I'm not getting "mighty" - I just deeply appreciate Am2's work until now. If Namco does a similarly wonderful piece of work, I will surely appreciate it too - but, as of today the future doesn't look too promising.

What I mean is, Namco should first announce something like "during production we took extra time to ensure every character is as balanced as possible" to make me, and I'm sure many other people too, await their game with more anticipation. Instead they're feeding us a trailer in which all that's shown is "there will be a new Tekken", "music and character movement didn't change", "we've added two new characters, one obligatory female in a revealing outfit and one male following the current trends", and "it's lo-res so you can't see much of the graphics besides the new hit effects". Disappointing! Oh, yes. And the shotgun. Just what was needed.

Lion's a "pretty boy", but he's more of a "nosy brat" type than anything else. He doesn't shake his butt in any movie, and he doesn't sound so blatantly like a girl.

And how about you don't call people you don't really know "dicks" just based on a critique of an uninspired "copy-and-paste" character?
