Texas, it's time to EVOlve

Well there's something witty to start our thread. Now that the game has picked up some love in the Lone Star state, I figure we'd get our own thread started too. I'm gonna let the Austin thread scroll off to oblivion so we can all have a place to post now.

Ok then... wether you're an evo veteran or a newcomer, post up and let's put our state on the evo map, so to speak. Anyways, so far we have 4 serious players in Austin:

Cosmic(Shun, Goh, Brad)
Robo(Vanessa, Brad)
Mouse(Lei, Pai)
Big Token (aka Lee P-- Aoi, Sarah, Akira).

Who else is out there, and who do you play?

FYI: I'm having gatherings every friday afternoon/evening at my place in Austin for EVO. Anyone in the area looking for comp should attend our get togethers, and bring your friends too (esp if they are of the cute female persuasion, )

 

HEH, thats actually a pretty catchy and clever play on words there /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif . Anyway, here in Dallas, its pretty much just me and Ed, Eddy Pistons trys to play every once and again, and its another group of people that play but dont post. We prolly have tho, about 8 people that "play" , but prolly wont play too competitively. Well, Ill get more peeps to post up in here. Hopefully our V.F click in Texas WILL EVOlve into something bigger. We will try to come down every other week if its alright with u Cosmic /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif! Alright then, peace!!!

You guys are welcome to visit any time we have gatherings... we are slowly picking up players here as well... I think we are adding about 2-3 more interests this week. They should be making accounts and posting up soon.

BTW dom, I read up recently on the exact notation of CD cancelling in VF... it's pretty tight but takes a little getting used to. Basically it's d/b, D/B, G(During the D/B), release guard (before releasing D/B), repeat. You'll see a big different in animation... the head pops up slightly and moves a lot further back.

Also, there's an alternate way of doing the dblpm for Akira. Instead of , try which is basically a d/b, followed by a backwards fireball motion and f+P. Comes out way faster I've noticed.

Oh geez, it seems like that is a lot of work. On to other things tho. Im getting that Lei Fei thing down a little bit, im down to 4 ground slap cancels. I sure hope there is an easier way than the way that Im doin it /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif , because the way that Im tryin to do it cant be right. Anyway. I play Aoi, would like to pick up Goh. I'd hardly call myself a serious player, tho I'm mediocre enough to one-credit the evo cpu at Le Fun. Only real evo experience I have until I get my ps2 modded. Poor lonely copies of Evo and Dondonpachi Daioujou are just sitting there unused.

Anyway, PM me, let me know the details on the get-togethers & I'll try to stop by.

 

I'm good to go to have a gathering here at my place this friday as usual. Let's aim for about 5 or 6pm or so. Post up if you intend to show.

 

Decent showout this time but I know we can gather more... we pretty much get together every friday evening at my place for endless evo battles. Any and all interested evo players (from novice to expert) are welcome to attend.

Also... I plan on hosting a texas-only evo tourney around the 30th of may... the reasons for the limitation are several: I want to keep it small(my new apt is big, but not that big), I want to see who the best is in Texas, and I want to keep the winnings/entry fees reasonable.

I want to get a few more tourney hostings under my belt before I host another out of state tourney. TiT5 was near-disasterous for some folks, so I wanna make sure I know my shit before I do that again /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

ANyhow, I just added a 36" TV to the gaming experience here, with surround sound speakers and comfy seating, its pretty ideal for evo play. Also, I should have all the bonus modes unlocked by this friday (may-2nd) which will make versus a lot more interesting /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Gathering Today: 5/9/03

We had a decent turnout last friday with a couple new faces... hopefully we can get more today. Also, the Dallas vf4 crew may come down here this evening for evo action... still waiting on word from them though on that.

I can say now that we have 3 GOOD players in Austin: Lee(Aoi/Sarah), Allen(Sarah), and myself(Shun). Hopefully we can add to these numbers...

TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Letting everyone know about a texas-only tourney I am holding on the 30th (friday) of this month!

It will be at my new apt, located at 10301 FM 2222, apt 2122. I will post directions later, but I wanted to make everyone aware of this. This will be kind of a "best of texas" vf tourney. Entry fee will be small, but worthwhile for any out of towners.

I really hope you dallas folks can make this one... should be pretty fun.

Our last gathering topped at a whopping 10 people, which surprised me. 7 from austin and 3 from Dallas... not too shabby!

My new apt will be much more spacious and (hopefully) furnished for that size crowd again. Anyone is welcome to crash the night since these things tend to run late. I haven't set a time yet, but I'll probably aim for around 5 or 6 pm to facilitate the distant crews.

MM-- glad to hear you're back. Comp is picking up now in Texas... and if you really are in Dallas area you should contact Dom and his crew... they're solid VF players so you will get some good matches. Lemme know if you need their contact info.

Oh man, if I can find a way to Austin I'll definitely head on down there for your tourney. Sounds like fun.

And I emailed Dom about where they play Evo at already. Hopefully they still play on a regular basis. It was hard to get games in with my CO buddies since they all lived so far apart so I'm dying for some regular Evo action.

Anyway, I'll let you know whether I can make your tourney or not once I know for sure. I'll try my hardest to find a way, though.

Well, I started playing VF4 when it came out. Haven't even touched Evolution yet. I then put all my efforts into Soul Calibur 2, which I rank top 10 in city at most. So, I saw that VF was gonna be in Evolution 2k3 this year, so now I'm back in the game. I know of only 1 other person who plays which is Conspiracy (Akira, Wolf) and that's really it

I guess I'm the only San Antonio player that posts, but that's ok. I'll try my best to attend your may 30th tournament, hopefully I'm not working that weekend /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm gonna classify myself as a newbie, that way if I do good, it's good and If I suck........then I already said I was a newbie /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I play Vanessa exclusively. I started with Jacky but IMO, he sux, but then again, I have yet to meet an excellent Jacky player, so maybe I'm wrong. I will be attending Evolution 2k3 as said before.

Give me some more info, I'll attend your tourneys in Austin. I need good practice before Evolution 2k3 /versus/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Just to let you know, we still have EVO gatherings at my apt every friday afternoon/evening until wee hours in the morning. The comp is always good, esp when we have large turnouts like last week (10 people). I'm glad to hear you play vanessa, since our only other van player (robo) pretty much stopped playing or lost interest I guess.

I am having a gathering this week at me new apt as well, so everyone is welcome to come by and play and relax. I plan on getting some new chairs by friday anyhow, so I can have more people sitting somewhere besides the floor.

Anyways, feel free to come up here on fridays... we always welcome the comp, esp from people who play diff characters than us.

BTW, Jacky is truely sick in his power and mind games. He's second only to Akira in my opinion. I co-ran TiT5 tourney, and blonde_1 from florida has a deadly jacky. His guessing games are too good, and you'll spend half the time in stagger, the other half on the floor. /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif We have a player here who is picking up Jacky and is getting decent... hopefully you'll see the light.

You might as well admit that you don't like VF4 because it actually requires technical skill, which you are incapable of (by your own admission). Me, Lee, Russell, Alex, John, Kody, to name a few are playing vf4. How many you got playing sc2? I thought you were a CS major? I guess not a good one, since you think 6 = 1. And as far as tekken goes, I've converted at least 3 if not more. Wtf does leaving TiT5 early have to do with anything? As for having fun and losing, I lose yet have fun at vf4. Because when I lose, its because my opponent had superior skill in that match, not because he clings to unblockables and safe-frame moves over and over and over (ad nauseum). I can include myself because I AM a convert. Posting here is not a requirement of being serious about playing a game. And who are you to call scrub? What was the last major tourney you placed in? How can you call scrub when you yourself have no skill? You rely on 100% abuseable moves and cheap factor to win. If anyone is a scrub, you are, more than anyone.

Go back to your "just us retards" league sc2 board already, hopefully someone will like you there.
