I know... I'm not the only Chanchai in existence (there are just so many of them--common name).

Anyways, I plan to be in Thailand from September 13th - September 26th. I look forward to meeting some VF players while I'm there, if possible. The best way to contact me is via e-mail at vf_chanchai@hotmail.com

    Here's a "Chanchai Mini FAQ"

    1) Does Chanchai speak Thai?
A: Nope... Unfortunately, he only speaks english now.

    2) Does Chanchai play a lot of VF?
A: Used to, but took a big break during the summer and is still on break from VF. In fact, he's been taking a big break from videogames. However, he's up for playing with anyone on one or two of the days during his trip to Thailand.

    3) What setup does Chanchai prefer to play on?
A: Any Japanese style stick and button layout accomodating thumb on Guard, index on Punch, and middle finger on Kick.

    4) Does Chanchai play VOOT?
A: Yep. Dordray is his main virtuaroid. Chanchai also took a big break from VOOT along with other videogames, but hosted a mini-gathering for a weekend over the summer. Chanchai's most regular competition is actually Scott Robinson of AVC, and that isn't too frequent.

    5) Other info on Chanchai?
Nicholas (Nicky) Chanchai Saenguraiporn. Age 22. Male.

Well, I've been in Thailand for over a week now and the trip's been wonderful.

Unfortunately, I haven't met Ann nor Tii yet, but I plan to tomorrow. I finally wandered around BKK for the first time by myself today, getting familiar with the Sky Train. Glad they have that now, makes things so much easier than in past visits.

Right now I'm at MBK (next to Siam Center) near the arcade on the top floor. Played some Tekken Tag and got my ass kicked (I suck at Tekken fyi). Fun games though. Hoping to play some VF4 and possibly VOOT soon!

This has been the first day of playing videogames in Thailand to be honest... It's pretty much been sleeping, wandering, clubbing, drinking, swimming, eating, and chilling for me so far.

I will be at Siam Center tomorrow to meet with Tii and Ann tomorrow (Tuesday) at 6pm. I'll be chilling here earlier just in case.

    Chanchai vs. Ann & T^5

I finally met with Ann and T^5 today. It was certainly a pleasure and I had a blast, though I wish we could have played much, much more.

    Ann
I only got to play Ann the first many matches of the night. Pretty much just the warmup matches to oil out the rustiness from not playing too much in awhile (at least for me, I haven't played serious VF in a LONG TIME!).

Anyways, it was too early to judge anything... I think both of us were warming up for the most part, having fun with this and that. I was acting too serious at moments, but I was really having a lot of fun. It's always wonderful to play another Aoi player. It's also very challenging to meet a Vanessa player.

I wish I could delve into details, but Ann and I didn't play all that much, and we didn't delve into the realm of super serious matches--so extracting anything in the sense of style would take a lot more matches since Ann and I play around a lot with whimsical styles (playing aimed at being fun, maybe flashy or just plain whacked at times). Was definitely a pleasure and I look forward to more. Ann will also be in Paulo Alto soon, so I hope he can hook up with the Bay Area VF players.

    T^5
Tii is the serious player between the two. To be honest, I truly enjoy playing both types of players--whimsical as well as serious competitors. Whimsical players bring about fun and experimental matches where you can really learn more about the engine, at least that's how I perceive them in smaller scenes like anywhere outside of Japan. Serious players bring out the discipline in the game and the insane mind-numbing mindgames that only few moments can capture.

Anyways, back to Tii, I had a blast challenging him with my Lei Fei, Kage, Shun, Aoi, and Lion (same goes to Ann). I got to see some of the experience he lacked, but also some of the things he does so right. In general, if there was any disadvantage in his game, it's in his specified knowledge in VF4. Other than that-- his reflexes can drive me up the wall when he's awake, his mindgames as well as some setups can really annoy the crap out of me (which is a good feeling actually), and his ability to run away when he chooses to can really make it hard if he has the lifebar advantage (he uses range like I do, can be super defense, but he likes to initiate rushes from long range and it can often be mistaken for running away all the time when it really isn't).

I can't wait to see what else is in his game if we meet tomorrow, I'm only able to analyze stuff like this because of how many matches we played and how we played them. Both of us fooling around here and there, but overall quite serious much of the time.

A beautiful moment (imo) came when Tii got me in an unexpected backstagger near the wall and nailed me with Jacky's charging fist (I think, it could have been TA P+K), followed by Jacky's punt causing me to fall towards him on my ass, and then finished me off with some beautiful combo for which I can't remember the rest. Got it on a replay though, or so I think I did.

Anyways, it was a blast playing you two tonight! Sorry we missed dinner (or forgot about it). Thanks so much for taking the time to meet up, play, and hang out.

    Thailand VF Day 2 -- T^5 & Boong

I'm already back in the US now, but I thought I would post a bit about the second day of playing VF4 in Thailand.

Tuesday (day after my first encounter with Ann and T^5), I met up with T^5 at the same place we played at the day before. Unfortunately, it was full, so we played at another shop a few doors down--and the original place was kind enough to let me borrow one of their hori sticks (Fighting Stick PS) to be used at the other shop. How very nice of them /versus/images/icons/cool.gif

Anyways, I played some VF4 against T^5 and Boong that day from 5pm until nearly 10pm. Lots of fun. I'll just say that the two days I played VF4 was a really great way for me to get back into the game after being in a few months torpor aside from a game here and there once a month.

    T^5
I mostly played Tii in a variety of matches like the night before. For the most part, messing around a bit while T^5 was taking the time to get to know what I do when I play--my tendencies and especially the many errors I was making that night. All good, as it was sizing me up for some intense as hell battles near the end of the night.

So, like the day before, I start out playing some Lion, Aoi, Lei Fei, Kage, Shun, and Lau. Doing pretty well throughout all of that, but our matches were more experimenting and figuring out each other (well, more like Tii figuring me out while I just have fun with the game).

By about 8pm (after I play against Boong), Tii and I take a head dive into matches that are about as serious as we were able to display on that Tuesday night as my Lion challenged his Jacky. Tii gave me pure hell for many matches for probably half an hour, before I started digging deep inside searching for good habits I once had and better habits that I was in need of developing. To put it clearly, my Lion went through hell for half an hour before I started bouncing back--slowly but surely into a more solid game with Tii where we were starting to trade matches for the rest of the night.

By 8:45pm-10:00pm, I guess we were doing as well as we could have at that point--both of us being rusty and all, but not quite totally incompetent (though we were cursing at ourselves when we saw some of our own blatant mistakes recurring like mad, I think mine were just bloody awful at times). For all of the inadequacies that were in our game that night as I have mentioned, there were still lots of gems and a good playing ground to see some flowcharts or options collide with each other--leaving both of us rewarded in some good ol' experience and later discussing some knowledge, thoughts, and all kinds of stuff.

In the end, I had a blast playing Tii because he's a serious player, and I truly enjoy playing that way (well, in casual and gathering matches anyways). I came out with nightmares of Sumeragi-style elbow rushing combined with PP flowcharts, beatknuckle traps (why the hell do I fall for some of these?!), and T^5's distance game with probably the best utilization of Jacky's shuffle step that I've ever encountered in personal play. Tii came out really hating Lion's from crouch uppercut ([2_][6]+[P]) as well as the Vacuum Punch combos ([4][4]+[K], [P]+[K] combos) since I had a decent success rate with those that night.

    GOOD STUFF!

    Boong
It was a real pleasure to meet and play against Boong. A pleasantly unexpected guest. Boong was mainly using Lei Fei and some Lion, and I was impressed given that Tii told me he had only played a few days. He already knew quite a few good combos and used Lei Fei's arsenal quite well. Another Tekken --> VF4 convert, a nice thing to see in Thailand as far as I can tell. I look forward to seeing how he does in the future! Thanks a lot for the matches and hanging out with us, Boong!

After the games at Siam Center, we all went to Pizza Hut and had some dinner while talking about various things--mainly VF and some people we knew or heard about. Noteworthy to me was T^5 telling me about his impression of Ryan Hart from the UK. EVERY PERSON I HAVE TALKED TO WHO HAVE MET RYAN DESCRIBE HIM LIKE HE HAS THIS AMAZING AURA OF ABILITY IN VF (and Tekken I believe). In a way, it really builds up this enthusiasm to meet the guy and watch him play.

For Tuesday night, THANKS TII & BOONG, I had a blast and wish we could play more!!!

sorry, for the late reply, but there seems to be a lot of difficulties posting here, along with other reasons. Anyway i'm here now and WOW thanks for the compliments, but really i'm not that great, i think it's just a report or something, but you are good too. it was like i said before it was fun playing you. and if you keep track of the hits and if you are aware a bit more you'll be a monster. i'll keep the few of us going and try to make a good comp in thailand by the time you come visit us next. other than that good luck /versus/images/icons/grin.gif

ok Mr.ChanChain, now i believed you are toptier postmater here hehe.

Thank for compliment bout my Lei Fei but i still suck, but hope next time we meet i can be ur good compititor.

    Here is my story

Never think about playing VF series before b/c i'd better in Tekken, 5-6 years ago T3&VF3 launched at some departmentatore near my school, Tekken3 machine liked a party place everyday but VF3 like haunted machine, so i chose T3 then TTT /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

After T4 launched in US (here is very late bout arcade) T^5 keep telling me bout how suck of T4 everyday like a whisper ghost, and 3-4 months with T4 since the beginning, i feel like nothing to play anymore, game is very narrow when compare to TTT and how to win is Cheap+Lucky (i saw people practice JustFrame technique of T4, but for me feel like waste time, not my style) and noone back to TTT so i quit for a while before start VF4 by T^5 the whisperer.

After T^5 back from US (2 months ago) he stole my PS2(jap version) and gimme his PS2 US version + 1game(VF4). So i have to play only VF, and my VF friend is only him, he taugh me basic.

i started with Lion, played him 1 week but hopeless then i changed to Lei Fei (i always like ChaoLin monk hehe) then Vanessa (another friend got attack by black girl, so i play her for joke) then Sarah b/c she has flamingo like Hwoarang Beak in Tekken (my stylish team), my Lei Fei goes farest (actually my basic skill is worse, so cannot play basic character /versus/images/icons/tongue.gif ) and i stop playing around 3 weeks b/c of boring (my Sarah and Vanessa lose too much in Kumite). And the day i met u was the first day after 3 weeks, sorry again that i suck.

and while i was wring this post, ChanChai, u online and i already told him bout what i wrote /versus/images/icons/confused.gif , pls read it again /versus/images/icons/smile.gif

bubby, enjoy ur Kai Yad Sai
