Imo, for the last several years, no to the first part. For the second part, I'm quite sure that is always the case every year. Kyushu and Kansai region players participated less throughout the season (no region-based Bay Area events compared to last), but the number of teams from those region did not dropped much compared to last year's Beat-Tribe Cup.

First post updated with the day's schedule and what stage the 120 teams start off of. Cross-reference the team numbers of post 2 to know what players are in each team.

In less than 24 hours, Tokyo Leisure Land in Palette Town will be filled with hundreds of Virtua Fighter players competing in the Beat-Tribe Cup. Some players formed teams with the sole purpose to win Beat-Tribe. Others formed teams that share a common bond. Some of these teams have lasted for many years. With over 100 teams participating in the event, I want to highlight some of those teams.

Family Gyouza Go-ninmae [ファミリー餃子五人前♪]

This team, representing the Chubu region, was last year's Beat-Tribe Cup winners. In the current VFR season, all 5 players continue to perform very well in tournaments and features two Star Players. They have a good chance to being the first team to win back-to-back Beat-Tribe Cups in 10 years.

Team Ireizaa [チームイレイザー]

Two years ago, Family Gyouza lost to Team Ireizaa in the Quarterfinals (4-5). Team Ireizaa would win their next two matches to take that year's Beat-Tribe Cup. This team features two players that reached the Final Showdown rank of Tenshoushin. In addition, Masukudo (Mask do Hijetsu) has been a part of 5 different Athena/Beat-Tribe Cup 1st-placed teams spanning between Virtua Fighter 3 to 5!

Daibutsu Punch [大仏パンチ]

A perennial top 16 team, Daibutsu Punch won the 7th & 10th Beat-Tribe Cup. After 3 years of not making it out of the first round in the Final Tournament Stage, they reached the semifinals in the 14th Beat-Tribe Cup losing to Team Family Gyouza. Itoshun was the first player to reach Tenshoushin rank in Final Showdown.

Beikoku Byouin [米国病院]

Representing the Kyushu region, Beikoku Byouin team has been a Top 16 team for the last 3 Beat-Tribe Cups. This year the team does not have regulars Muu Muu Dance and Malcolm X participating. However, this year's team features the current Tenshoushin ranked player, Buster, and the top two Kyushu players Fullswing and Tonchan. Rounding up the team is: Toyochin that was part of another Kyushu team that reached the Top 16 last year and Entan who was part of the 2nd placed Akira team in the 2014 Pre Beat-Tribe Cup. The 2014 Beikoku Byouin team might be the best chance for the Kyushu region players to win their first Beat-Tribe Cup!

Tyrant [タイラント]

When the team Tyrant was formed for the 13th Beat-Tribe Cup (Itoshun was part of that team instead of Chinpan J) many expected them to win it all. They finished in the top 4 that year losing to the Kansai area Shimantogawa Ryouri Gakuen team. For the 15th Beat-Tribe Cup, they are again a favorite team expected to finish at the very top of the brackets.

Take Pride Gakuen [ていくぷらいど学園]

3 of the 5 members in this team (Terazoo, YOU, and Maichi) were part of the Shimantogawa Ryouri Gakuen team that defeated team Tyrant in the 13th Beat-Tribe Cup. Maichi took out 4 members of Tyrant for the upset (49 minute mark in this video) which, in my opinion, was one of the most memorable moments in recent Beat-Tribe Cups! The Kansai-based Take Pride Gakuen team reached the Top 16 last year.

オレンジライン [Orange Line]

In the last three Beat-Tribe Cups, the Orange Line team has been a strong consistent presence in the Final Stage of the event. They reach the Quarterfinals twice and the Semifinals once. This year, I expect that they will meet or exceed those results.

team 品川 [team Shinagawa]

Yoppii Bryant (JA) / Kubinashi Rider (LE / Tsudanuma Jacky (GO) / Masatsu (KA) / Jaguraa-san (KA) picture from JB Newton Cup Seed Trial Battle (not 100% sure who is who in the picture).​

Winning the JB Newton Cup, team Shinagawa gets to be placed in a coveted "Seed Block" during Preliminary League Stage. The last three years, team Shinagawa started the Beat-Tribe Cup at the Preliminary Selection Stage; and in those three years they always advanced to at least the Preliminary League. In 2012, they became the first and only team so far in Beat-Tribe history to start at the Preliminary Selection Stage and advance to the Semifinals of the Final Tournament Stage (7-1 Team win/loss record).

Chihou No Hoshi [地方の星]

This is a team that always place in the upper portions of Beat Tribe (14th BT - Wildcard, 13th BT - Top 16, 12th BT - Top 8, 11th BT - Wildcard), two of the members were responsible for last year's multi-video streams and maintaining the Local-Star Beat-Tribe Archive

Majin Ikka [魔神一家]
Tsuchikumo (PA) / Yoshino (GO) / Majin (LA) / Satoyan (JE) / Yatsuki (JA)
This is another team that finish in the upper portions of Beat Tribe with strong Jacky player Yatsuki the anchor of the team.

The next three teams each feature the top Pai players of Western (Josephine), Eastern (Shiwa), and Northern (Katayama) Japan respectively:

Kansai San'nou Kai [関西山王会]
Josephine (PA, Kouryuu) / Kucchou (KA) / Emaaru (WO) / Usugi No Oniisan (TA) / Ryuuta (LI)
Top 16 team last year, they lost to Family Gyouza 4-5.

Kusshin Generation [屈伸ジェネレーション]
Memekurage (SA) / Monkichi (VA) / Kashin (TA) / Kurita (TA) / Shiwa (PA)
This team beat Team Iireizaa last year in the Preliminary League stage, also beat Tyrant, but like Kansai San'nou Kai, lost to Family Gyouza in the Top 8.

Katayama Gundan [片山軍団]
Katayama (PA) / Tatsuya (TA) / Yuucha (AO) / Wage (LI) / Chibitarou (JE)
Approximately 10 years ago, some of the VFDCers that participated in Beat-Tribe Cup played against a child named Chibitarou. Back then he was very good with Jeffry and as a young adult he is still very good with Jeffry!

Penki MAX [ペンキMAX]
Raion’noko (JA) / Toru (AK) / Penkiya-san (LA) / Tachimawari Omen (LA) / Yogo Kage (KA)
This would be the second best team from the Tokai region. Finished Top 16 last year.

Monte Carlo~Eiyuu no Gaisen [モンテカルロ～英雄の凱旋～]
Shizuru (AK) / Fuumin (LE) / Gigusu (BR) / Anaguma (JA) / Buruha (SH)
Last year, Gigusu's and Anaguma's team was unable to participate at Beat-Tribe. This year they made a team with members that won the 9th Beat-Tribe Cup (the exception being Buruha instead of Jaga).

Gamespot Athena Machida [ゲームスポットアテナ町田]
Chemuru (WO) / Hideo (WO) / SHU (SH) /Chibita (LI) / Kyasao (KA)
A team full of nostalgia, the team's name is a nod to the Arcade that started the team-based Virtua Fighter sensation and features the "Virtua God" Chibita and the player that won the first major event of VFR 20 years ago, Kyasao.

PENTA KILL
Shironuko (BL) / Aopai (PA) / Kissa (SH) / Kamaage (AK) / Chinobrad (BR)
Name in reference to one player taking out the entire team in League of Legends, this team is a combination of players from the 10th (Shironuko and Aopai) and 11th (Kissa and Kamaage) Beat-Tribe Cup winning teams.

Omange [おまんげ]
Chinjuu-ou (JN) / Donpacchi (BR) / Tara (JN) / Chanba Lau (LA) / Zettoman (LE, Baribari-kun)
One name stands out the most in this team, Zettoman, the very definition of a clutch player in my opinion.

Shin☆Yukichi Club [真☆諭吉倶楽部]
Uji no ZAN Ani (AK) / Choufu KK Sarah (TA) / Jinzouningen (LA) / Umecchi (EI) / Kurubo~ (LA)
This is a combination of two Kansai region teams that finished in second and Top 8 in last year's Beat Tribe Cup. Two of the them had participated in VF tournaments outside of Japan (Uji no ZAN Ani and Choufu KK Sarah).

These are just a few of the teams participating. I am quite sure I have not listed all the teams that deserved to be mentioned. Maybe some team nobody expected would make a name for themselves in the 15th Beat-Tribe Cup!
