    article

seems like VF5 will include taekwondo and military martial arts. . .

What martial arts are the grunts trained in anyhow?

In the U.S military, its a combination of elements of TKD, Shotokan, some Brazillian Ju-Jistue, and techniques of their own devising.

Finally, a korean martial arts will be represented in the virtua fighter series. The inclusion of a Korean based martial artist was the only reason i started to play Tekken. I figure that Suzuki-san will cover the gamut of major martial arts techniques with the completion of VF5.

hope they add more female fighters as there are far to many men already. For some reason ive always chosen female charachters in any genre of game. I aint no perve but for some reason playing a male charachter doesnt appeal to me. Cool if they made a female grappler like wolf or jeffry.

That is why I thought Vanessa was a nice character to balance up the team. A female TKD player would be cool. Hopefully she will be as fast as pai, but a lbit stronger and may be less flying around the place.

    Just a thought.

In the article it said that Yu is researching for a possible Korean fighting art for VF5, he did not give the final word.

It wont be Tae kwon do, Yu will probably go with an older fighting style.

Even though I favor your opinion Jedi but how do you know that it's not going to be TKD? /versus/images/icons/confused.gif Is the force telling you something that we don't know? /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

There are many Korean martial styles to choose from.
Here are a few I can remember off the top of my head.
Any Korean speakers I apologize if I butcher the spellings
    of any words. /versus/images/icons/confused.gif

    Taekwondo
    Gumdo (Japanese-Style Kendo)
    Hapkido (Also, known as "Kido")
    Yudo (Judo)
Subakdo Hwe (Tangsoodo - Part of modern Taekwondo)
    Kongsoodo (Part of modern Taekwondo)
    Hwarangdo (Part of modern Taekwondo)
    Kihapdo (Part of modern Hapkido)
Daito Ryu Yawara (Basically, Aiki Ju-Jitsu)
    Sserum (Korean Wrestling)

*I would guess that Hapkido or Daito Ryu Yawara would be the
next martial style added. It seems that latley Suzuki has become
quite fond of "grappling" (I use that term loosely) arts and
those 2 styles have many joint lock and redirectional attack
techniques. They would fight closest to the style Aoi, but are
very different so it could be pulled off. Mix Lion, Aoi, and
Goh to see what Hapkido could offer. Sounds nice to me. /versus/images/icons/wink.gif

Although, Taekwondo is not even remotely out of the picture
since it is the most recognized and popular of the Korean
    styles worldwide.

i was wonderinfg why pais moves seemed so flighty and theatrical, she is a hong kong action star, and most of them moves are sometimes over the top and useless in normalfighting situations. But i do think pai seems to do alot mroe damage then she use to do before. Especially her reversals. Possibility they might make a female tai kwan do player, as vannessa is a kinda military fighting type of gal. shame they got rid of a her flimsy dress, made her look less butch but maybe thats why i find her refreshing.

Hwrang-do is older than Modern TKD, in fact it goes back to the Korean imperial guards. It just pre-dates Tae-kwon (yes, tae-kwon, not taekwondo.)

    Hi there gee-ho,

I too thought about the reason of the character design behind VF. I think at this point, I believe the VF character design remain un-realistic and typical.

If any of you have been to Hong Kong, you will realise the Chinese long dress style of clothing is actually worn by tourist more than anybody els. The only time I see a Chinese wearing a traditional dress were in some hotel. But here in VF, they placed dear Pai in to such fashion if though the people in Hong Kong dress like her normally, thats sad.

However, the character design is not as cheesy as Tekken's, where the Koren is expected to do TKD, and Law looks like Bruce Lee. Which I think VF on this asspect, is a little more creative as they mix the nationalites and the traditional style of fighting forms all together.

i wish theyed get rid of her original blue outfit. Its horrid and very outdated. Put her in a pair of jeans or somthing casual. I persoanlly dont mind the traditional looking dress as itsk inda pretty. That probably explains why many of pais moves are high and only a few are mid and very few are low. In HK action films there is alot of emphasis on high kicks , in a normal fight wouldnt be used as there easy to dodge and risky.
Hey if laus apparently meant to be dying, will he be dead by VF5, if so who would take over his legacy. I hope pai does cus she rocks.

At this moment, I dont think they will get rid of Lau all together, because there are a lot of Lau's fan out there.

So, what I think could happen to Lau is:
    a) He get cured(May be by Shun)
    b) He found somebody and passed on the skill (a New Character).

But B may be a bit unlikely, because even though its a fighting gmae, story its not the most important asspect, but I think Lau as a charater beside the fighting skill, its still very popular. I think its rather silly that they created such a story line about Lau while he is such a popular character, its not if he was Taka form VF3 (Sorry, there may be other reasons they get rid of him).

I also dont think Lau's style will merged with Pai's, there could be a bit of an improvement on the Ensei-Ken namely passed on form Lau, but I think they want to keep the two character's fighting style different rather than making Pai the new Lau.

Colthing wise I am not complaining, Lau although looks nice(thats all it matters I guess), but his hair style and the dress, it looks like what you would see during 800ad or somthing. I have not been to China, but I think you will get looked at if you dress like Lau.

Lei Fei, a young monk with outstanding abilities even within the order, was charged with the elimination of Koen-Ken, a forbidden style resurrected by Lau Chan. But as Lei Fei prepares for the Tournament, his thoughts are not to destroy Koen-Ken, but to make its legendary power his own.

    c) lei somehow learns Koen-Ken and then kills Lau? wth knows ~ just a thought O_O

ur right as if this is the last VF, sega will probablydo there best to keep the fans happy by including all the charachters from previous. Though lau and pai are smiliar in fighting skill, they both are in some ways complete opposites too. Lau has a more intense, ruthless way of fighting, whereas pai is more theactrical, fast, soft and observant way of fighting.
They probably wont get rid of him.
I think lau needs a haircut, he is after all a restaurant owner/cook and longhair in a kitchen is bad hygiene.

I always wondered that too, about Lei Fei. Maybe he'll have some hybrid fighting style, but all the same. Why would he want to master Lau's [P][P][P][K] When he can already do so much more.

I guess the back story is open to intrepretation.

Lau need a hair cut? May be he can use hair net in the kitechen instead?

I quite like his hair, if you win fight lots, the hair actually get longer. I once had the tail all the way to the lower part of the leg.
