What's your strategy for your opponent after your elbow attacks: /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif / /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif
    connect on block or counter?

On block, I find myself using either /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif [stuffs punch string punishers], /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif - odd way to stop low punchers but he does slide back slightly when he does the move, or another elbow...

On hit, I kinda find myself spamming elbows till they quit cause he's too cheap, lol, or for sidesteppers, there's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or even DM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif [looks awesomely nasty powerful btw]

Others say crouch punch into palm maneuvers is advisable. What do you do using the Many Elbows of Akira? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    "Spamming" elbows is dumb.

Lol. Nothing is that 'dumb' in VF OneHitCombo. I do face players who struggle and crouch after 2 to 3 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif staggers.

If /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif counter hits, you get +8 frames, akira's knee will interrupt their /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif//forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif OR you can do a throw as they cannot hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif to avoid the throw. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif counter hit do the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif > dragonlance combo or the many other combos posted at Akira dojo.

If either of the elbows are guarded, you are at disadvantage. If opponent like Jeffrey does a knee and you do either /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, you will float high and eat big damage.

If /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is guarded, just hold /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif briefly to avoid opponent's throw or fastest mid attack in time. It's call fuzzy guard at VFDC. Just be prepare for delay throws though.

If /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif is guarded, your best option is to do evade throw escapes guard. Depending on who you are fighting, escape their biggest damage throws accordingly.

DM/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is -15 on guard. Opponents like Lau, Akira, Goh, Brad has guaranteed 14 frame counter combos. Eileen, Blaze, Jacky and Sarah has guaranteed punch strings that knocks down. Lion can just do his /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif,/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. Everyone gets guaranteed throw too. ALL these to match your mere 20 points damage DM/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif.

Odd, I thought using a move that works is smart. If you 'decide' to not spam a move and not win cause your foe can defend against your other attacks, I'd call that dumb...

If your foe can't overcome /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif by sidestepping then uh, it's their problem, not yours...

I usually use OM /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif for safety's sake as far as counterattacking is concerned.

Jeffrey's knee seems to be a favorite among many so I keep a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif at the ready, just in case. If I can 'train' my foe to try to throw me instead of using the knees, then Fuzzy guards sounds more feasible.

My game is to cause problems for foes by 'spamming' safe moves until they overcome it. Only when my 'walls of safety' maneuvers get defeated that I can really 'play' my game...

You people who whine about spam / cheap obviously don't play to win...

"Winning isn't everything" is the excuse for losers...

How you play a game is important, true, it is, but you don't play to lose, you play to win, and winners have many enemies... ^_^

    I'll expand on it:

Everything in VF, done to the point of abuse, is easily punishable.

Being cheap sucks because there's no skill in it. Just cause u win doesn't mean you're good at all. It's not even fun for me to win by being cheap, it takes the fun out of it. The saying winning isn't everything is true in the case of Virtua Fighter. It wouldn't be so complex if you were supposed to do one move over and over. That's why Jacky is such a stupid character. I wouldn't want to use the guy referred to as "the perfect beginners character." Have fun doing one move over and over for 600 games. That sounds sooooooo boooring... zzzzz

It sounds to me you don't understand how the game works. Check out the instruction booklet on basics of how to play. Attack at advantage, defend as disadvantage, etc. If you are losing to one move, you either have poor yomi or don't understand fundentals.

Trust me, I understand how the game works. But there are certain ways of being cheap that are tough to stop. For example, I played a Vanessa who stayed in kick style and just did /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. Basically poked low, low, low then sweep then immediately throw side kicks. My Yomi didn't matter because I didn't have time to reverse the side kick, just kept eating it. This guy had played 600 time and did three moves. I'm 4th dan with Akira, I'm not a master but I'm not a beginner by any means. That particular sequence is HARD to stop. It's not impossible, just frustrating that people play try to play like that. What's the point? How is doing three moves even fun???

Vanessas /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is a 17 frame move that is -6 on regular hit and +/-0 on counter hit. This means that even if she hits you with that low kick, a dashing elbow or super dashing elbow of yours will win on the next attempt if your opponent tries it again. Sitting there trying to reverse her attacks isn't the smartest way to win with akira. Even if you get the reversal, the damage is shit compared to a combo on counter hit. Most low kicks in the game leave the attacker at negative frames even when they hit.

Ah, thank you! My reaction probably wasn't quick enough to counter it. What is the biggest disadvantage you can sidestep from? If I buffer it right after a blocked elbow is it garuanteed to come out before /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif can hit you? Just in case they do manage to block the counter elbow... What combo would you try to get off from +6 against a blocked /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif???

There is no cut off as to what negative frame number you can and cant evade it. It all depends on what your opponent does to make you pay. For example, akira vs akira, lets say you do a double palm that is blocked. You are at -15. Your opponent does a knee which is 17 frames. If you time it properly, you can evade 100% of the time because the knee is too slow to counter the double palm. On the other hand, if the same double palm is blocked, your opponent counters with either a dashing elbow or super dashing elbow which is 14 frames, not only will you not be able to evade but you wont be able to block either. Hope this makes sense.

If they block the dashing elbow or super dashing elbow, nothing is guaranteed for them.

at +6, nothing is guaranteed. Instead of looking for a guaranteed combo, see what your opponent is going to try to do next. Are they gonna try to attack? What are they attacking with? If they are attacking with a medium speed move or a slow move, chances are you can make them pay with another elbow. Are they scared of an upcoming elbow? If so they might block which means its time to throw.

The guessing game between mid and throw is the crux of this game... I'd like to play your Akira sometime. My gamertag is the same as my user name but in CAPS... Once I get the stick this Friday, it's on! I think it must be tougher to use Akira without the stick...

Sure dude lets play when you get your stick. However, shun is my main and not akira. Akira was my main in vf2 and was my sub in vf3. In 5, I use shun, eileen and jacky.

I think at +6 your opponent cannot duck a throw if you attempt one.

    This is useful information.

Unless I'm wrong about that, which I could be.

    It's +7.

At +6 your opponent has to use Crouch Dash to beat throw/mid mix up.

    "How the game works"

    Vanessa's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is at -6 and her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif at -5.

    ON HIT /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

God forbid you try something else than mashing, like blocking low, she's at -14 and -18 respectively. Free elbows and yohos.

I mean, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif i can understand, but how the fuck can you lose to it when the vanessa layer mixes it up with *those* moves? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

    Re: "How the game works"

I think online it's harder to stop because it's harder to time your buffers for counters to come out at the earliest possible moment. Hey, maybe I just didn't know how to get around it, hopefully I won't let it happen again. Thanks for the advice though. I found myself killing all kinds of low kicks yesterday now that I know how disadvantaged they are. I love smashing little Lions who do the double sweep, it's easy to see the second hit coming, block it and punish...
