So i know that lei fei is an S tier charactar, yet you see very few upper eschelon Lei Fei's online. So very few master + level charactars, so very few high Dans. I see Cozby, Neo Maxim, and maybe one or so others, but not represented much compared to all the others. I would have guessed he would have been one of the most popular, but shows what i know. What are you guys thoughts.

Actually, I like Lei Fei as a character, but I play so much Lei-Fei scrubs that I got disgusted and gave up on learning him. It may be silly but well, I can't stand him anymore.

A lot of people that have used him or fought him a lot feel like he is overpowered and cheap so they pass on him. Plus, if you win with Lei Fei, you automatically get less credit from most players because you won... but with Lei Fei.

Lei Fei is, IMO, one of the hardest characters to master. That's probably why you don't see too many really good Lei Fei players online. Button smashing with him only gets you so far. Once you get to the higher dans and above, that crap won't work, so you got to start playing with skill to win and that takes some serious dedication. Also he just might not be that popular. Same way I hardly see any Goh players. People just don't like the character.

I think it's self-selection. A lot of people who choose Lei Fei are those who want some quick cheap wins, and have no patience for actually learning the game. So once they get to the beginner-intermediate plateau, where it becomes hard to get to the next level, they give up and go play some other games instead. In other words, I think Lei players give up quicker than players using other characters...

lol, thanks for the defense of lei fei vs skill to use TexasLion /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
i agree that there is the stigma that he is a noob masher charactar, but that'll only take you to about first dan. after that you got figure out other tactics, and get into the meat of the charactar, though obviously until you figure out how to stop it that pppppkkkkkkk is pretty hard to deal with. Anymore, i find lei fei is one of the easiest charactars to beat, i'm probably 80+% against lei fei's and have beaten a number of 8th dans and up. probly just cause i know his weaknesses so well.

His major weakness is that he is very linear like Akira. Evading is one way to throw a monkey wrench into any Lei Fei player's strategy. Most of his powerful combos and setups can be evaded so he's far from invincible. If you can take visual clues as to when you're going to need to evade, like when Lei goes into Hai Shiki stance, you've got a good chance to get an advantage right there. If you side step his double jump kick you have a huge advantage to punish Lei severely.

What about something like a simple standing k? Full circular, adv on hit straight into hai shiki, you can start with something like HS p,p+k for that +5 on block, and mix from there. On block it's -10, in HS stance it's hard to punish with jabs, plus you can go straight into bokutai.

Truth is he hits with some of the most bogus hitboxes on a side step that this sentence is so full of fail. His Low stab kick is linear but it hits on my side step even away from it.

I can say firsthand that the original statement is correct. I have tailored my game to try and account for this, delaying attacks and some other probably pretty simple measures. Still that being said, if you are patient and persistant with evades, imo, thats the most damaging thing you can do to mess up a lei fei flow. The problems is for most, that they become more predictable in thier dodges than the lei fei is in thier attacks.

Overfiend, you're about as wrong as you can get on this one. It's impossible to hit someone out of a successful evade because it has frames where you're invincible (unless you hit a button in which case some strings will start to track you.) If you evade successfully, i.e. you hear the "grunt", a linear attack (not just Lei's) WILL NOT hit you. I have evaded that low stab more times than I can remember as well.

You are evading too early and he's hitting you slower, failed evade by delaying his attack slightly.

Lei is a bit weird in that all those canned stance changes and stuff add some extra frames between his attacks, so a lot of his attacks have some "auto-delay" attributes even when the player inputs them as fast as possible. Just slow down a bit... you're evading too soon, you have to wait for him to actually initiate the next attack.

And yeah, I agree with TX Lion, Lei-fei is a powerhouse, but he's easy to button-mash, and difficult to use "skillfully"... there's not much of a middle ground. You just get stuck in that intermediate phase until you've completely mastered all his stances and sabakis, and most people never make it through that.

Is this some type of KKLei thread?
...I have a dream... ahh forget it.

The danger of beginning the game using Lei is that most tend to skip learning fundamental skills such as evading throw escapes and such. Hell, most lei's wont even throw you!

You know im not one for arguing in forums but between the forums and people online im tired of people crying about lei fei. Like gern said his hitboxes arent screwy ur evades are.
I'm no newbie i picked lei fei cuz ive always liked monks and stuff like that and i like his style. I didnt pick him because i heard he was overpowered im tired of hearing that. i cant fight 10 fights without someone crying about me using lei fei.
My best friend beats the shit out of my lei fei. i hold my own but you know what he knows lei's moves from fighting me. so instead of crying try learning his moves and how to avoid them(heres a tip evade towards his front).
Everybody has super cheesy stuff. as far as lei being mash happy, if u get beat by a scrub button mashing with lei than u are terrible. he is imo one of the easiest characters to punish for mashing. most of his moves put him in a stance where he cant block. button mashing in general should never be a complaint if u know the system than theres no problem.
And people that pick lei fei give up easier? y would picking lei fei have anything to do with someone being a quitter? broad reaching statements like that just breed ignorance.
Oh yeah and about not throwing with lei fei. A. his only good throws are easy to ETEG together /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gifand /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif will block both of his throws that setup for ura nehan juggle and his 3 piece throw and most people i fight (title ranks) know this. B. i usually never have to and have better damage dealing options at the time. That doesnt mean i dont know how to throw or escape them. I just dont need em as much as others might like akira.
Sorry for the long post but thats been a long time coming. anyways nothing personal all love. hope i didnt sound to argumentative. peace.

p.s. accepting challenges all day everyday. I may not win but u will respect MY Lei Fei. much love peace 4 real now

he is easily mashed and countered as well if you know what he is doing but it does get annoying when deal with same mashing combos over and over. I used to play him back in VF4 evo but I it was so easy that I decided to give myself a handy cap somewhat and pick harder characters. There is nothing wrong with him it is just that he is so masher friendly that it tends to get annoying sometimes seeing same /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif... combo all the time . My best strategy is to just jab him or do quick low at certain points just to disrupt him and if the attack has special properties on a counter hit they automatically take effect because lei is very likely doing some kind of attack. I would really love to see a really good lei that switches stances so fast that the enemy can't adjust to it in time consistently and does different types of combos but they don't come around very often and it is a shame too.

Ditto, I think Lei is one of hardest to truly master; maybe not as hard as Akira or Shun (IMO), but hard never the less. Like Akira or Shun if you truly master Lei, it becomes very hard to beat a Master Lei Player. I use him and he can be a cheap player, however I would rather be using Goh, Akira or Shun, but the 360 controller is so Fucked up for this game its not even funny. On my PS3 I use Akira, Goh and Shun a lot, but I can't do that on the 360; not online anyway.
