I am fully aware of how the ranking system work however has this ever happened you and if so can you explain to me why this happens. First I began by playing 2 characters Goh and Vanessa (PS3 version) I got them decently ranked but my current Goh character has the same rank as my new Vanessa character and my Vanessa character has about 100 fewer wins than and hasn't played in nearly as many fights as the my Goh character. For a while Vanessa actually out ranked my Goh character until I finally played him enough to at least equal Vanessa's ranking

Most of Vanessa's matches were against people of her ranking and the game was giving her rank seemingly for free while the my other characters playing against the higher level characters don't rank as fast. I heard that fighting higher level fighters allowed a person to rank faster than fighting people of your ranking or lower, is this true or not. I tried it on the 360 version only play people of my ranking and the Aoi character I am play on the 360 has about 90 wins and ranks as a 6th dan, my Vanessa has the 100 wins and is ranked 8th dan, Vanessa had that ranking for a little while too before she had 90 wins. What is the trick to ranking up fast fighting people of a higher ranking or fighting people of a equal ranking

just so you know I don't quit a ton of matches either if I know I am going to lose and win fairly easily overall so the numbers should be fairly even why is there such different in the games played to when 2 characters have the same rank.

fighting the same rank as you gives you a faster ranking.

during the kyu's in vf4 fighting higher ranked people gave me you xp though.

If you're a kyu rank, then a win against anyone will rank you up the same amount (or possibly higher ranked people will help you more, but I think any win is the same).

At dan level you have to fight people near your own rank, and people the same rank will let you rank up much, much faster than beating anyone else (you similarly demote faster if you lose). You actually don't get any rank points at all from people 3 ranks or more higher than you (probably to prevent unfair demotions).

    Ranking System Explained:

kyu - can rank from anyone
dan - only same rank, two below, or two above*

    * 10th dan can get rank points from Warrior and vice versa

Master - only from 10th dan (five in a row)

Something else to note is that whereever your meter is once you rank from 10th dan to Master, if you rank back to 10th dan your meter will be at the same level it was before. There is a sidenote to this - it is only true for half full and lower meters, meaning if your meter was close to full when you got Master but rank down to 10th dan your meter will be only at half.

I was just talking about the dan ranks. I already have 2 characters ranked as Warriors (Pai, and Akira) and I am aware of the process after 10th dan. It really annoyed me that I could win all my matches and will still have a chance to be demoted going from master to 10th dan rankings. Thanks for the advice though.

Uhh... we play way, way too much, and so we noticed it. Most of this stuff is pretty obvious, you just have to know what to look for... for example, your rank bar will flash at the start of the first round if it's possible to gain/lose xp in the upcoming match. That makes it easy to see when dan ranks can earn points or not.
