I'm wondering why is it that some fighting games released like war gods, mace the dark age, kakuto chojin, tao feng never got a sequel? Did they not do well because people didn't like the characters, arenas fatalities, etc., or what is that all these games engines were broken?

If so then why is mk still making money off their newer games if the engines are broken? Shouldnt it be in the pit with these other games?

In general would you say people that buy fighting games buy them specifically for the gameplay or for something else, because understanding how a fighting engine works wouldn't come off as something every other person knows (to me at least)

pfft as much as everyone jokes on mortal kombat, i think it deserves credit for what it does. The games always have very cool ambiences, interesting characters, interesting stages, and as of late really cool quest modes. MK remains a seller firstly because of its name and secondly (other than the fighting systems) it always outdoes the last game in every way.

The rest of the games you listed all feel like wooden carbon copies of games / movies / people that already exist. For that reason I still dont understand why DOA makes it. How many character types do they have 5? Ninja's, school girls, bruce lee, a drunken boxer and wrestlers. Give me a break. Tekken gets more credit because there are more character types.

You know what game that desperately deserves and adequate sequel? Killer instinct. Very awesome unique game (for its time). Killer Instinct Gold doesnt count. There are more games that deserve more sequels (rival schools, bushido blade, TMNT Tournament Edition hehe) but those are all pipe dreams I guess.

ps: None of this has to do with the fighting systems of these games. Just speaking for the look and feel.
