1. Hey Guest, looking for Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown content? Rest assured that the game is identical to Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown so all current resources on here such as Command Lists with frame data, Combo Lists and the Wiki still apply. However, you can expect some VF5US specific changes to come soon!

Just wondered if any of the serious tournament players are thinking of studying videos of potential oponents for tells or weaknesses.

Just seems like there is more information available than ever before tbh.

is there really any of UK battles?
Seen a few but not much, going to be my first tourny soon so I don't know really what to expect, I see weaknesses in the videos but I bet my weaknesses are going to be a lot more obvious.

For sure. But it also affects what people do at "warmup tournaments" sometimes.

I'm sure that a lot of people have or will be studying Denkai and Konjou when the Evo East VF5 vids come out (assuming they do).

That said, VF5 in the West is still in a state of early development. The bad side of that is that you might be able to find something very exploitable about an opponent if you watch their vids. The good news (or bad news depending on how you see it) is that there's so much room for development for just about every player in the West that a lot of improvement, drastic improvement, can be made between now and Evo World. And especially a year from now.

I expect Konjou and Denkai and Shag and the whole NY Crew to level up a whole lot between now and Evo World. Same with SoCal, Florida, Massachusetts, and even *cough* Oregon. Even Yosuke is going to be leveling up at some alarming rate since he's now back in Japan and will be playing there for almost two months.

But certainly, wide access to video will affect tournament play. I don't think the effects will be that drastic though.

I'm not really the person to ask. Some of the videos from London are very good, but they generally only focus on 5/6 players that seem to play.

I think sometimes it can be misleading to rely on the videos since some of the VF crews around the US have been playing with each other for a good amount of years. With that said they know each other's tricks and tactics and might do things different for their own crew vs. someone they've never played before.

ex: when I play my brother at home I'm usually very aggressive and don't really care if I lose too much, but vs. someone who I haven't figured out yet I'm usually on the defensive side

Don't get me wrong, videos are always a great help when it comes to improving and knowing what other people are doing:)

heh, Be kind of devious to arrange a money match with a player if you had a game plan that incorporated baiting reflexes that you were aware of though. Like when you tap someones knee you get an automatic response /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I very much agree with this. Videos can both lead you very far astray or be a good method to learn new attack patterns and techniques. Figuring out how a person plays from a video is misleading though. Thats my 2 cents.
