The best deal hands down is this 2008 Hitachi Ultravision Plasma. It's Made in Japan (Japanese glass), includes a game mode, is 50 inches, the stand is motorized (30 degrees left and right) and the price includes shipping. The picture is comparable to a Pioneer Elite with dark blacks. The Ultravision is the best from Hitachi. It can run 1080P and has built in HD tuners. 1080i/p high end Plasma's cost more than LCD's and the HZ (motion blur) point is totally moot with Plasma.

$771 2008 50" Hitachi Ultravision Plasma including shipping. (Add to cart will show $771 not $796)

UEC Web is Hitachi's closeout dealer. This TV is well suited for VF.

That's the 2007 model. And with a extra hundred dollars, you could a panasonic plasma, which is better. Panasonic's plasma's were the ONLY ones that came close to producing those deep blacks of the Kuro Elite. Hopefully, Panasonic gets the tech, because what Pionner was going to do was insane! "Zero Black" But still this TV is still a good deal. For that size, price and quality, it beats all the LCD's in the market.

I'm not sure you can find a 1080 50" Panasonic Viera at $900. I've seen some Viera 1280 x 720 models at sub $1000 prices. I have the 50" Panasonic Viera Plasma as my main TV. The Viera isn't much different at all in picture quality/color from the Ultravision. If you really can find a Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U around $900 that's a real bargain too and I would pick the Viera over the Ultravision in that case.

I got a TH-50PZ800U and it looks amazing. I also paid $2300 for it like a year ago. If that hitachi looks similar and it's only $800, that would be a great deal. I also have a TH-42PX85U that cost $800 and it looks good, but not as good as the 800U. I definitely would of checked out the hitachi if that deal was going on around 6 mo. ago when I got the 2nd tv.
