I'm am by no means a noob, but whenever it comes to throw escaping outside of the general option selection throw escaping or the throw attempt at the same time, it just winds up with my opponent getting almost free damage. I was just wondering if anyone who is better at the throw escaping aspect of the game has any idea at working on reaction time, or just the general throwing game.

Well, it really depends on your opponent (how they play, and their character). The all around general "good to excape" directions are (in order)

    [4] and [3]
Almost all characters have both of these, and they're usually the strongest (and therefore the most thrown). Of course, when you get into higher level play, people will mix this up and rarely do the same throw twice.

Now, the big bitch of it is, a lot of good players will not throw you when you think they will. IE - after a throw counterable move. They'll throw in a little punch, THEN the throw. This shouldn't happen too much in a game. After the punch, throw in your own punch. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I'd say until you get really good at it, when you think you're gonig to get thrown, enter either [4][P]+[G] and [3][P]+[G]. This two should make up about 50% of the throes.

It'd be good to start practicing against oppoennts w/o many directions. Shun & Leifei would be the best for that.

lol, I play Leifei hence the dilemma. To win alot before I didn't need to throw or throw escape for that matter but now I need to get better at it. I'm great at option select throw escaping, just need to work on response time I guess. Any suggestions towards that end.

Improving your response time is difficult, having humans to practice against is the best thing for that but you can set up ways to do it in practice mode:

You can set up a drill which you can set your opponent to do - elbow, evade, throw - so you block the the elbow, attack, then enter double-throw-escape-guard. This is fairly good for getting timing down for a guaranteed throw, and there is a short vid of how to set it up here, even if the instructions are in Japanese http://www.magoja.com/AVI/020721escapethrow2.wmv (stolen from another thread).

Other than that you could simply vs. the CPU and under the display settings turn on "display throw inputs" (think that's it) and it will flash up the throw input on the screen when you need to enter it and gives you a good way to improve your response time.
